Chapter 75

UNEDITED, BEWARE OF SOME GRAMMATICAL ERRORS.

Marinette swore it was a dream.
Had it not been for the pain, Marinette could've sworn she was experiencing a nightmare.

She could heart the faint beeping of the heart monitor, and Marinette squinted her eyes as the room appeared bright beneath her eyelids.
She didn't want to open her eyes. She was sure that if she opened them, she'd be welcomed by a horrible bloody stitched up wound.

All she wanted to do was wake up from this nightmare, but when it came to that opportunity, she just wanted to stay asleep.

Marinette inhaled, feeling a little pain on her side, but the sight of blood made her woozy. Maybe it would be better if she hid inside herself for a couple of days.

Marinette furrowed her brow as she felt someone squeeze her hand reassuringly beside her.
It didn't take long for her to open her eyes and look beside her. She could feel her heart soaring inside her chest the moment her blurry vision could make out the face of her husband. A small smile tugged on her lips and she immediately squeezed his hand in return.

Adrien glanced down at her with a grimace. The sight he saw when he returned home remained etched in his mind. The back door was left open and he witnessed his wife on the floor bleeding

It didn't take long for Adrien to have his wife flown to a private room within the best hospital in Paris.
After learning that her wound was superficial and didn't puncture anything important, he was able to finally breathe.

All that was left was to pick up the pieces and find out what happened.

Marinette lifted his hand to her lips, pressing a soft kiss to it. The young woman held on to his hand, her heart relaxing as she was so glad to see his face. After what she just went through, Adrien was a sight for sore eyes. She couldn't have asked for anything better.

Adrien offered her a small smile, the lines beneath his eyes deepening. He was incredibly stressed with work, but also worried for his wife's wellbeing. Marinette always came first. It didn't matter who else was in the picture.

"Hey..." he murmured, his hand continued to squeeze hers delicately. "How are you feeling?"

Marinette hummed, closing her eyes once more as she glanced around the room. Her brow furrowed as she did so. She had never seen a hospital room like this before.
But of course, this was new life as an Agreste. Due to their status, they got a lot of things that normal people wouldn't.
Marinette chewed her bottom lip, refusing to allow this privilege to get the best of her.

"I feel a lot better." Marinette replied with a dry voice. "I mean- everything feels a lot better now that you're here." Marinette relaxed, not exactly knowing what they did to her wound. She didn't exactly care, as long as she was alive and not in any extreme pain.

Adrien nodded glancing down, the stress on his face becoming more evident as the time went on. He ran his thumb across the back of her hand delicately and he leaned more so on the bed.

"I'm glad you're feeling better." He murmured, leaning over to press a gentle kiss to her forehead. "Now, I'm gonna need you to tell me what happened." He glanced at her firmly. "And I know this wasn't some freak accident."

Marinette felt her heart sink, a small frown tugged on her lips as she could only image that Adrien was the one who found her passed out and bleeding on the kitchen floor.
She was at war with herself.
Marinette knew she couldnt lie to Adrien, but at the same time, she didn't want Kagami to end up in jail.

After all, she didn't mean to stab her. From what she could remember, Kagami was in a large amount of stress. She was just another soul that needed help.

Adrien was all she knew, and if Felix had left her pregnant and alone, Marinette could only imagine the mental exhaustion she was going through.

It was as if she snapped.

Marinette sighed, leaning into the pillows with a grimace. She squeezed her eyes shut, her heart beginning to pick up the pace once more. She hated this aspect about herself.
Even when someone does her horribly wrong, she always finds a way to feel for them, to empathize and make excuses for them.

It happened for Felix as well. She allowed him to stay in her life as a friend and gave him the chance to speak even though he had left her high, dry and alone for years on end.

"I don't even know where to start." Marinette sighed, reaching up against her IV to pinch the bridge of her nose.
"I went with Chloe to see her off, but when I got home there was someone in the kitchen waiting for me." Marinette opened her eyes, turning her head to glance at Adrien whose face just grew more grave with each word.

Marinette paused, frowning as she wondered if saying that it was Kagami would do any good.

"She- she tried to kill herself, but I wouldn't let her." Marinette continued. "She had one of our kitchen knives. It was an accident. I dont think she meant to hurt me with it. I swear she really lost it."

Adrien furrowed his brow, confusion washing over his features like a herd of angry fire ants.
"Wait...who tried to kill herself? Marinette what happened?" He asked, both his hand cupping hers. "You know you can tell me."

Marinette pressed her lips together, the fast pace of her heart recording on the monitor beside her. She wondered if this was still a good idea. But in the end. She knew that if she didn't tell him, he had the power to find out.
Perhaps him finding out his own way may have more of a consequence to Kagami, which was the last thing she wanted.

"Kagami..." Marinette spoke, allowing her name to drown in the space between the both of them.

She couldn't tell what kind of expression Adrien's face contorted to, but it certainly wasn't a pleasant one.

Marinette clutched on to her blanket, watching as Adrien furrowed his brow, the lines beneath his eyes draining the life from him. Had it not been because he was leaning against the bed, she would've expected him to faint right then and there.

Adrien slowly pulled back, his face neatly growing red as he released Marinette's hand in an instant.

  "What the fuck?!"

His words were so sharp it made Marinette cringe.

"S-She didn't mean to-" Marinette sputtered, slowly sitting up and reaching for his hand.

"That doesn't matter, Marinette." Adrien breathed. "What gave her the right to break into our house, and do that to you?"

Marinette pressed her lips together, unsure of what to say next.  In fact, the firm look in Adrien's eyes was frightening. The look on his face made her assume that he would fall out of his chair or zoom out of the room to contact police or a private investigator straight away.

Marinette reached out, her heart squeezing within the confines of her chest as she knew he was mad as hell.
Kagami had taken things far, but never to this extent before.

This was an all new Centre of gravity that they were working with.

The moment her hand touched his face he relaxed. The frightening firm look on his face soon dissipating to a more soft and pliable expression.
Marinette knew without a doubt that Adrien was simply worried and concern about her wellbeing.

Hell, if she was in his shoes, she'd act the same way.

"Adrien, I promise I'm okay." Marinette reassured softly, her hand caressing his cheek delicately. "I really think this is the last time we will ever hear from her again."

Adrien leaned into her caress, his hand reached to touch hers delicately.
There were a lot of things running through his mind. He had so many questions, he didn't know where to start.

"How did she get into the house?" He asked, his expression turning inquisitive. "I don't remember seeing any broken windows or doors."

Marinette pressed her lips together. She was unsure about how that came about either, but she did have a hunch.

"I think she got in from the spare key we left in the yard. I remember you mentioned the key while you two were still together. I'm sure she remembered where it was." Marinette simply speculated. "What we should do now is change the locks and move on with our lives.'

Adrien seemed reluctant to agree. There were too many things left unanswered and for the mess that was left behind in their kitchen, Adrien was almost uncomfortable to be in his own home. Perhaps he'll let up and allow his father's security system to be installed.

"I called Alya." Adrien replied, slowly turning his head in to kiss her palm. "I know you'll hate me because she's still a new mom, but she would've ripped my head off had something happened to you and I didn't tell her anything about it. I can imagine she's on her way here to see you."

Marinette nodded with a small smile. She exhaled, dropping her hands to her side and relaxing more so into the bed beneath her.
It went without a doubt that Alya would plague her with a million questions the moment she got into the room, and for that Marinette would need a bit more rest.

Adrien sat more comfortably in his chair. He kept his hand in hers, occassionally stroking it as an act of reassurance.

Marinette opened her eyes, her heart racing as the doctor knocked on the door and stepped inside.

"Good evening, Mrs. Agreste." She spoke, a warm smile on her face as she approached the bedside. "Are you in any pain?"

Marinette reciprocated the smile, actually feeling grateful that everything was over with. She wasn't awake for the stitching process and Marinette was okay with that. As long as the wound was patched up and ready to heal she had no complaints.

"I'm a little sore." Marinette conceded timidly, looking at Adrien with a small pout. "But I'm not in too much pain. I'm sure I can handle it."

The doctor nodded, her brown eyes glancing up at her heart monitor briefly.

"We're gonna rerun some blood tests on you. Your beta hormone levels are really high." The doctor explained. "If you want, we can also test your urine from the catheter to confirm it."

Marinette furrowed her brow, watching as Adrien sat up, his expression just as confused as her.

"Beta levels?" Marinette inquired, feeling completely dumbfounded. "What does that mean?"

The doctor smiled at her, a small lilt in her voice as she spoke.

"According to your bloodwork, you are in the first trimester of pregnancy, Mrs. Agreste."

The room fell silent.
Nothing could be heard but the sound of the heart monitor beeping beside the both of them.

"W-What...?"
