Chapter 3: The Whispers in the Wind
"Eyes as blue as the azure sky...that is the symbol of The Contractor"
—————
"Woah, Woah see that guy right there? bag over his head and his wrist tied just hard enough that he doesn't lose circulation, with the insanely threatening yet strangely cute girl tied up right beside him. Well believe it or not that guy's actually me, now I bet you're wondering how I got into this wacky situation...well so am I."
Y/N and Wednesday sit side by side in chairs, tied with ropes and bags over their heads. Their bags are eventually removed. They're still in the library, only now surrounded by masked and cloaked individuals.
"Hey jackasses hate to break it to you but you're a little too early for Halloween, oh, and piece of advice if you're gonna kidnap people don't dress like kidnappers." He says, and one of the members steps forward.
"Who dares breach our inner sanctum?" They say.
"You can take the mask off, Bianca." "Yeah, your nasty ass wind gave you away, so hurry this up and stop embarrassing yourself." They said, and Bianca removes her mask.
"And just like that, my hopes were dashed against the rocks of bitter disappointment. My foe was no psychotic killer. More like a bunch of high school clowns." Wednesday thought. "Wait, I preferred you with it on." "And I preferred when we were bagged." Y/N added
"How did you get down here?"
"I tracked the watermark to the Poe statue. Then I solved the riddle to get us in here." Wednesday said.
"Wait, there's a riddle? I thought we just snapped twice." One member asks.
"Wow, that's just fucking sad."
"Well, aren't you the brightest in the bunch?
"The Nightshades are an elite social club." Bianca said, and Xavier steps up, revealing himself alongside Ajax and the other members. "Emphasis on elite."
"We have roof parties, campouts, the occasional midnight skinny dip. And Yoko's an amateur mixologist. She makes a killer virgin mojito. It can get pretty wild."
"Wow. Do you guys even have a bedtime?" "They probably stay up all night doing each other's nails and talking about boys?" Wednesday and Y/N fired back bouncing off one another seamlessly. "Last I heard, the Nightshades had been disbanded."
"Yeah, the group kind of lost its charter 30 years ago after some normie kid died." Xavier adds in.
"But we have a lot of wealthy alumni, so Weems looks the other way as long as nobody makes any waves." Yoko said.
"Someone like Rowan?" Wednesday asked.
"We booted that loser last semester. Question is, what are we gonna do with her? Only members are allowed in this library." Bianca asks, and Xavier steps up next to them
"I say we invite them to pledge. Wednesday is a legacy, and no one has ever really seen anything like Y/N before, whatever he is."
"After the crap she pulled in the Poe Cup, there's no way in hell. We talk about not making waves? She's a tsunami and he's a tornado."
"Wow, somebody's a sore loser." Y/N muffles
"Just because I beat you at your own game? Let me save you the trouble. I'm not interested in joining and neither is Y/N" Wednesday said and Y/N nods in agreement
"You're seriously turning us down" one of them asks
"Can you believe it?" "I know I can." Wednesday and Y/N respond coldly
"Untie them." Bianca tells Xavier
"I freed myself five minutes ago." Wednesday stands up, showing her untied rope. "And I..." Y/N quickly summons up a small gust of wind that cuts apart his binds before standing up a swell "Could have done that anytime I wanted to." Wednesday grabs the drawing from Xavier and on their way out the siren with the black eye stands in their way and Y/N just scoffs.
"Dude I could literally send you flying, fuck out of the way." Y/N says and the siren quickly steps out of the way. Halfway up the stairs, Wednesday glances back towards the elitest freaks "It's amateurs like you who give kidnapping a bad name." She says and Y/N laughs as they take their leave.
—————
"There were so many threads to my investigation, I could weave a burial shroud. I still have no idea how Rowan mysteriously rose from the dead. Or why that monster is prowling the woods. But right now, nothing intrigues me more than this book. If I'm going to be responsible for Nevermore's demise, the question is, why am I sharing this apocalypse with a pilgrim?"
The next morning sun rose over Nevermore. Students stand in the courtyard gathered for whatever Principal Weems has to say, Y/N yawns as he waits with Enid standing right beside him.
"All students will report for their volunteer jobs at 10:00 a.m. sharp, followed by a community lunch at 1:00. As you know, this year Outreach Day culminates in a very special event, the dedication of a new memorial statue in the town square, which will also include performances by Nevermore students." She begins, while Y/N and Enid talk amongst themselves
"So, how are things going between you and Wednesday?" She asks, her interest in his and Wednesday's very obvious chemistry peaking as of late.
"Well, she hasn't tried to stab or injure me as of late if that's what you mean?" He says smirking, knowing full well exactly what she was trying to get at.
"You know that's not what I mean Y/N, You two are always seen around one another, and don't think for a second I forgot that little move you pulled at the Poe Cup with her."Enid says pure determination in her eyes to get whatever juicy details she could about the both of them, Y/N just shrugged his shoulder his smirk never leaving his face as he enjoys messing with her. "I just go wherever the winds take me Enid, but if they just so happen to lead me to Wednesday I'm sure as hell not gonna complain." He says casually and whole-heartedly, they're approached by another school member and are handed pamphlets, Enid opens hers and squeaks a bit.
"Yes! I got Pilgrim World. I have natural people skills and a love of performing, so it's kind of the obvi choice. She says, he opens his and shows her he got the same. "You got it too! This is perfect! Now, all we need is Wednesday-"
As if on cue Wednesday approaches them, Y/N smiling at her as she does.
"Wednesday, What'd you get? Enid asks.
"Uriah's Heap, whatever that is." She replies.
"It's an antique shop, I'm sure you'll like it well enough." He says they're then shuttled off to Jericho and hop off the bus to go to their respective job sights, but Wednesday quickly approaches Enid with an offer of a lifetime for her.
"Enid. Switch volunteer assignments."
"What? No. Uriah's Heap is definitely not my bag."
"It's an emergency. I need to check out Pilgrim World." Wednesday says, and Enid smirks at her.
"Oh, I see what's happening here, you're trying to spend some more time with Y/N aren't you? Ya know he did say something like this might happen, the winds bringing you two together." She says, trying to tease Wednesday, who was taken aback a bit hearing that. Her mouth sews shut and she tenses up a bit, her fists clenched tightly, as she struggles to keep the thoughts of her and Y/N out of her mind, her face shifting between that of the anger and annoyance he brings her at times, and the softer more gentle demeanor he brings out of her as she sees him from a distance talking to Eugene. A familiar gentle breeze brushes across her face as he turns spotting her, and smiling his contagiously pure and idiotic smile before she quickly forces her emotions back down and regains her composure.
"I have no intention to spend any more time with that idiotic windbreaker than I have to. Y/N and I are simply partners working on an investigation, nothing more and nothing less." Wednesday says through gritted teeth her focus shifting between Enid and the Idiotic Contractor.
"If that's what you want to tell yourself, then go right ahead but we both know that's nothing but denial talking." Enids says much to Wednesday's annoyance
"Also Wednesday, this isn't even a fair trade. Why would I agree to spend the entire day at some dumpy emporium of crapola?"
"Because Ajax is volunteering there. Thing sneaked a peek at his assignment. But if you're not interested..."
"No! Oh my God, thank you. You're the best! Enid immediately snatches the note from her hand and takes off, Wednesday heads to Pilgrim World, and to an awaiting Y/N he turns to Wednesday.
"Hey, Eugene and I were thinking about taking a group photo, you in?" He says smiling, to which Wednesday stares daggers into him before pressing her foot down onto his. "Uh, Wednesday your foot..." "What about my foot?" She asks deadpan before pressing down harder to which Y/N just shrugs his smile never fading. "Nothing don't worry about it." He says and she nods, They're little moment is then interrupted by a woman dressed like a pilgrim.
"Good morrow, my young Nevermore kin. I am Mistress Arlene. A real OC. Original colonist. Now prithee, put your cell phones on vibrate and make haste, for you are about to travel back in time to the year of our Lord 1625, to Jericho's first pilgrim settlement. Yonder. Behold, the meeting house. Inside is a collection of artifacts related to Jericho's most beloved and pious founder, Joseph Crackstone. And beyond is our privy, America's first gender-neutral restroom."
"I haveth a query." Wednesday asks as she steps forward with Y/N right behind her
"Pray, be quick, child." She replies.
"In the meeting house, which of Joseph Crackstone's artifacts are on display?"
"It is truly a treasure trove, including original farm tools, tableware, even the Crackstone family chamber pot."
"Fascinating." Y/N said matching their tone and accents.
"I volunteer to work in there." Wednesday says.
"Pray, no. That exhibit is being renovated. Today, thou will all be working at the beating heart of Pilgrim World." She says and leads them to a building, with a sign Y/N looks up towards.
"Ye olde fudgery!" Y/N and Eugene both said excitedly "More like ye olde diabetes in a box." Wednesday said monotone.
"Volunteers, prick up thine ears. Fudge is the lifeblood of our humble community. And samples equal sales, so grab a uniform and a box and make our forefathers proud." The woman hands the two uniforms of ancient pilgrims. They both look at them and take them, reluctantly the two get dressed and begin serving people, although Wednesday decides to add a little cultural flare to her sales pitch saying something that Y/N has no clue of to a group of German tourists who leave in disgust.
"Having fun over there?" Y/N chuckles to himself
"Just educating them on the history of fudge is all." She answers as the Pilgrim lady turns the corner and gives the two of them the stink eye before walking away. "Come with me, there is something we need to investigate." Wednesday says as she puts her tray and leaves through the door with Y/N right behind her. "Lead the way my dangerously fair lady." He smirks and Wednesday remains silent as she walks on trying to hide the smallest of smiles now on her face.
They both stop dead in their tracks however as they bear witness to the sight of Eugene projectile vomit onto one of the three teenagers that they had fought inside of the coffee shop. The teen that had gotten thrown up on quickly grabs onto Eugene and tries to put him in the stocks, but in an instant, Wednesday stops the stocks from moving completely.
"Let him go."
"You want to end up in the stocks too?"
"Remember what happened the last time we did this dance?"
The boy then goes to Attack Wednesday and Y/N just stands there watching completely mesmerized by her as she crams the boy into the stock and slams it shut on him. Y/N then glances toward the other two boys.
"Are you two still here?" He asks a small ball of condensed wind forms in his hands sending shivers down their spines.
"I can't get into more trouble with my dad." one of them tells the other as they walk away leaving their friend behind.
"Let's get you cleaned up" Wednesday says to Eugene and the three of them leave to find a spot for him.
"Here you go buddy I got you." Y/N says as he uses his wind to blow away all the vomit and fudge off of Eugene's face and clothes.
"Thank you, nobody except for Y/N's ever stood up for me before." Eugene says
"You said hummers stick together." Wednesday said, with Y/N ruffling up Eugene's hair.
"I know this might come as a shock, but I don't have any friends." Eugene says as Wednesday stares at him.
"You remind me of my brother, sans the desire to strangle him every waking moment. Wednesday says looking at the two of them. " Now if you'll excuse us, Y/N and I need to investigate more about this crackstone. So we have a meeting house to break into." She says before grabbing Y/N by the back of his collar and dragging him off to the Meeting House.
"See ya later Eugene." Y/N says waiving goodbye to him as he's dragged off. Once they arrive at the door to Meeting Room, Y/N using his wind slashes off the lock and the door opens, they slowly open it and peer inside, they step in closing the door behind them as they begin to investigate the old museum.
"My grandmother once told me secrets are like zombies...they never truly die. I'm not sure what secret Crackstone is hiding, but I have a strange feeling the answers to my future lie in the past." Wednesday says, the two look around before Y/N's eyes widen at the sight of a painting with a girl that looked exactly like Wednesday.
"Wednesday come look at this, The Old Meeting House, 1625." He says, she walks over to him to see it.
"Y/N, this girl I've seen her before. She's even holding the same book. That black one she had outside Crackstone's crypt." Wednesday says, they turn around to the glass display in the middle of the room and Wednesday looks inside it.
"This is the book! Codex Umbrarum. That's Latin for "Book of Shadows."
"Well that's not ominous and evil sounding at all." He says, she opens the case and picks it up, flipping through it, only to find that the pages were blank
"Great. It's a fake. I don't know who Etsy is, but I doubt she was an outcast settler." Wednesday said, Y/N couldn't help but chuckle. "Wednesday, Etsy's not a...god you're adorable sometimes." He says before quickly stepping back just narrowly avoiding getting hit in the face as Wednesday swung the book at him. "No.I'm.not. Call me so again and I promise next time I won't miss." She said her words never more serious in her life to which Y/N just smiled
"Alright, whatever you say Addams, but seriously if this thing is a fake then where's the real book?" He asks, before the door busts open.
"Just what the fudge are you two doing in here?" She said, glaring at the two of them
"Mistress Arlene. How now?" Wednesday said.
"How now, indeed. I proclaimed the meeting house is under repair. I know thoust heard me."
"Mistress, tis not what it looks like, we were simply trying to learn more about Crackstone nothing more...m'lady? Is that the right word to use here?" He says trying his best to stay in character and get them out of there.
"Yes, and this display case was already open."
"That book's a replica."
"You don't say." They both said sarcastically and in perfect sync.
"The original was stolen last month during the two o'clock witch trial."
"It was probably the only authentic thing you have in here, yet you still charge $29.95 a ticket?"
"Hold thy tongue. I'm reassigning you both. To fudge-churning duty." She said to them, Y/N just shrugs.
"Meh, better than being burned at the stake."
"The original meeting house, the one in that painting, where is it?" Wednesday asks, and the Mistress finally breaks character.
"How the hell should I know? I only moved here from Scottsdale in April." She says, and sends them off to the churning room, which they easily escape from, quickly getting changed before heading to the coffee shop.
"Well, that was waste of time."
"It's good we deserted while our sanities are still intact." Wednesday said, " So, what are we doing here?" He asks.
"I'm actually here for Tyler."
"Tyler? Why didn't you hear me when I sai-" He tries to continue but Wednesday cuts him off angrily
"I did hear you Y/N and I have found nothing out of the ordinary with him so far, so perhaps your precious winds were simply incorrect. Regardless who I speak to is my business." She says and for the first time since knowing her Y/N glares back at her the winds around him shifting violently as they enter which Wednesday felt immediately taken aback by it. "Fine, have it your way." He says as he begrudgingly follows beside her up to the counter to find Tyler and Xavier.
"Want the usual?" Tyler asks approaching.
"And some help. You know the original pilgrim meeting house, the one from the 1600s? You know if it's still around?" Wednesday pulls out a map of Jericho and places it upon a table."
"What's left is out in Cobham Woods, but it's pretty much a ruin."
"Show me." She said, and he put his finger on the map.
"Uh...There, but, look, it's kind of sketchy. Squatters and meth heads use that place as a crash pad. My dad has it cleared out every couple weeks. What's this about?"
"Nothing."
"You're becoming obsessed with this monster in the woods thing."
"Would you rather I develop an obsession with horses and boy bands? Thank you for the help."
"Hey, listen, the ruins are kind of tricky to find. I could take you this afternoon. My shift ends at 2:00. Tyler asks and Y/N glares at him, Wednesday does consider his offer however, "Principal Weems would hang, draw and quarter me if I miss the big statue dedication. And as enticing as that sounds, I'd prefer to keep a low profile. Besides, I know my way around the great outdoors."
"Don't tell me you were a Girl Scout."
"I could eat Girl Scouts for breakfast. I have an uncle who went to prison for that." She says before leaving, she exits the coffee shop with Y/N beside her completely silent, she glances at him for a moment and sighs
"How long are you going to stomp around like a child f--" She tries to finish but Y/N quickly cuts her off "Let's get one thing straight Wednesday, right here right now. I don't give a crap who you talk to, like you said it's your buisness not mine, and it's up to you to decide whether you believe me or not when it comes to Tyler. What I do care though is that the people I hold closest in this world are safe at the end of the day and whether you like it or not that includes you." He turns to face her a powerful yet calming look in his eyes as he stares into hers.
"My winds have never been wrong before...but as long as I've known you, neither have you. So I'll put my faith in you and my trust in Tyler, but if at any moment I feel the winds change around him. I will use all of my power to protect you." Y/N finishes and his pure, Idiotic and contagious smile returns once again and a warm pleasant breeze wraps around Wednesday at the sight.
"I...I don't need your protection, I can take of myself just fine." She says trying her best to ignore the warm breeze and keep her cold stare, Y/N just chuckles
"I know." He says before walking on ahead and Wednesday stands frozen for a moment watching him and enjoying the wind before catching up beside him.
"So, where to next partner?" Y/N asks and smiles at her as a pleasant breeze blows through their hair.
—————
Y/N and Wednesday, trudge through the vast forest their journey finally coming to an end as they enter the run down and burnt ruins. Thing exists Wednesday backpack to assist searching.
"Huh, empty..." He says.
"I was expecting more too."
"Who you talking to, little girl?" A man says. The two of them turn around to an obviously homeless man, long beard and disheveled.
"Use "little" and "girl" to address me again and I can't guarantee your safety."
"This is my place. Get out!" The man yells. Wednesday turns to Y/N, "Y/N, if you could?" She says and he nods and walks over to the homeless man "Sorry about this old timer." He says and forms a massive gust of wind under him and hovers into the air before grabbing onto the old man and vanishing into the wind. A few seconds pass before Y/N reapears before Wednesday.
"Nicely done." She says and he shoots her a wink.
"I aim to please, anyways what's it gonna take for you to trigger a vision? Will just touching something help?
"No, I can't just touch something. My visions seem to happen spontaneously." Wednesday says.
Okay...well can't you ask your Mom for help? She's had visions before too right?" Y/N says and thing agrees.
"I would rather dye my hair pink than ask my mother for advice."
"Well it's not like we have any other ideas, why not just give it a shot?
"Fine, you want me to prove it to you?" She says and begins to touch things."
"No. Nothing. Ah, I bet this will give us some real insight." She holds up a Taco Bell bag and shakes it at Y/N who laughs.
"Well now I just want Tacos." He jokes and Wednesday rolls her eyes at him and walks back to the gate.
"My visions are about as predictable as shark attacks." She says and touches the door, her body stiffens immediately like a corpse as her head snaps back. Y/N quickly rushes to her before she falls on the ground, and holds her close.
"Wednesday? Wednesday can you hear me? Thing! what's happening?!" He yells, Thing quickly motions and Y/N shakes his head.
"Alright!" He yells as a storm begins to roll in, he quickly looks down at her.
"Wednesday, I don't know if you can hear me but if you do...please don't kill me for this." He says as a vortex of wind quickly gathers underneath him. Thing crawls onto his shoulder before Y/N quickly blast off. Inside Wednesday visions she was now in a completely different location, watching a mob of pilgrims surround a woman.
"Burn her! Burn her!"
"Devil spawn! Devil spawn!"
"Beast! Witch! Repent! Begone! Witch!"
"Stand aside!" A voice echoes through the crowd, armed with fire and pitchforks, they quickly split apart for the founding father, Joseph Crackstone.
"Goody Addams! You have been judged before God and found guilty. You are a witch, a sorceress, Lucifer's mistress herself. For your sins, you will burn this night, and suffer the flames of eternal hellfire." He says, and the crowd cheers, Goody looks at him. Her resemblance to Wednesday almost uncanny if it wasn't for the blonde hair.
"I am innocent. It is you, Joseph Crackstone, that should be tried. We were here before you, living in harmony with nature and the native folk. But you have stolen our land. You have slaughtered the innocent. You have robbed us of our peaceful spirit. You are the true monster. All of you!" She yells, and Crackstone just laughs
"You are abominations in the Devil's grip! I will not stop till I have expunged this New World of every outcast. Godless creatures! Set it ablaze!" He yells, they drag Goody to a building and toss her inside and lock her in before setting it on fire. Goody eventually escapes from the blaze, but Wednesday finds herself surrounded in smoke and darkness before Goody runs up to her.
"He won't stop until he's killed us all! He's here." She runs, and Wednesday turns around to Crackstone staring her down.
"There will be no escape for you!" He yells and trips her up, she falls backwards into a void of nothingness standing alone. Wednesday gets to her feet once again as her eyes dart around the endless darkness that is until a cold yet gentle breeze brushes across her face, she quickly turns around only to find a single girl standing before her.
"Hello Wednesday, I understand you must be extremely confused right now but I do not have alot of time here and this was my only oppurtunity to speak to you." She says much to Wednesday's confusion. "Who are you? Are you connected to Goody, Crackstone?" She questioned to which the girl just laughed innocently.
"No I'm sorry, My same is Sarah and I just wanted to get the chance to thank you."
"Thank me, for what?"
"...For looking after Y/N all this time." She says and Wednesday's eyes widen hearing Y/N's name
"Wait how do you know Y/N? Who are you really!?" She demands and girl opens her mouth to speak but begins to fade away. "I'm sorry but I can't answer that it seems my time's finally run out, but I'd like you deliver a message for me when you can, tell him I said...thank you." As the girl finally finishes she slowly fades away into the nothingness and the ground slowly begins to crumble underneath Wednesday eventually giving way as she falls and awakens from her vision, she lies on the ground, wet. She sits up to find herself no longer within the runied building, but a small cave with a lit fire next to her body to warm her. Y/N sat watching over her.
"Well, well look who's back." He says, Wednesday stood up and looked around.
"It started pouring, and I sure as hell wasn't gonna leave you out there." He said, "Thing helped with the fire." He adds, Thing crawls up and back onto Y/N's shoulder. He feels the cold of the winds all around her body and quickly tosses another piece of fire wood in before moving over and sitting beside her
"Before you say a word I want you to know something...I don't care what you say, you're cold, you're shivering and I'm not gonna make you deal with that alone, so shut up and deal with this. He says, Wednesday stares at him trying to think of anything to say in response, but then slowly nods and sits next to him, warming herself.
"So, did you see what you needed to see in your vision? " He asks.
"Her name is Goody Addams, and I believe she's my ancestor from 400 years ago." She explains the rain continuing to pour outside before a shadows dashes past the entrance to the cave. Wednesday immediately gives chase and Y/N quickly follows after her.
"Wednesday!" He yells, he runs after her, finally reaching her as she kneels down."
"What is it?" He asks and she stands up and turns to him.
"The monster is human. Its tracks turned from monster prints to human ones." She explains, Y/N kneels down but sees nothing.
"Well, whater tracks it did have a nothing but washes away mud now, by the way your visions when did they start happening?"
"About a year ago. When they happen, it feels like I'm touching live wire. I usually enjoy that sensation."
"Yeah, but you can't control it and that freaks you out. You sure we can trust them?"
"I saw Joseph Crackstone in front of me as clearly as I'm seeing you now. He gathered all the outcasts in the meeting house and burned them alive. I also sa-" Wednesday stops as she recalls the girls request and her possible connection with Y/N and realizes this is probably not the most optimal place to discuss it.
"Also saw what?" He asks intrigued but she simply shakes her head "Nothing...that was all. I believe Rowan was right. Something bad is going to happen, and I need to stop it. Starting with that monster. Whoever it is." She says and Y/N nod as they both get to their feet.
"Well let's worry about that later, we should probably start heading back now." He says and quickly claps his hand together creating a massive gust of wind that dries the both of them off instantly, before raising his hand into the air and using his wind like an umbrella. Y/N looks at Wednesday and smiles as he offers her his arm. "Shall we get going m'lady." He says Wednesday simply glares at him for a moment before sighing and linking his arm with hers. "Try anything and I promise to eviscerate you with your own wind." She threatens squeezing onto his arm like a vice to prove her point, Y/N chuckles "Wouldn't dream of it Wednesday." He says as they slowly walk back to Nevermore the pleasant sounds of the winds and rainfall playing all around them.
—————
Y/N and Wednesday eventually return to Jericho just as everyone else meets at the center of town for the celebration, students gather for the musical presentation. Y/N and Wednesday walk together towards everyone.
"I thought nothing scared me, but that was before I stared into the eyes of Joseph Crackstone. I don't believe in heaven or hell. But I do believe in revenge. I usually serve it warm with a side of pain, but I've never faced an adversary cast in bronze."
Y/N sit's down, and Enid scoots over next to him, he smiles and they watch and listen to the mayor as he stands before a podium, a statue and outdoor fountain made of stunning bronze.
"Thank you. It is my honor to celebrate our town's history and Jericho's noble forefather, Joseph Crackstone. Now, he believed that with a happy heart and an open ear, there was nothing our town couldn't achieve. So together as one, our community and our friends at Nevermore Academy, we've built a monument to celebrate his memory. Now, may the spirit of Joseph Crackstone be memorialized for eternity." The mayor says, and the class begins to play a version of "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac, A strange liquid begins to spread within the fountain. Y/N quickly feels a change in the winds and recognizes the smell instantly.
"Oh boy, Enid get ready for some fireworks." He says and she looks at him confused
"What do you mean firewor--"
Before she could finish however, a burning wind washed over Y/N and the statue and the fountain erupted into flames. Students ran including Enid, teachers and adults struggled to figure out what exactly was going on. But what glued Y/N to his seat through all the panic and chaos was the music, Y/N listened and watched completely captivated as Wednesday an intense arrangement of Vivaldi's "Winter". The force of the music and roar of the flames only enhancing her destructive beauty evermore in his eyes, completely entranced by her until the last note was played and more as he shot up from his seat and gave her a booming applause.
"Bravo! Encore, Encore!" He cheered for her and Wednesday couldn't stop herself from cracking a slight smile as she heard him sing her praise. Weems however wasn't so moved however, dragging Wednesday into her office enthralled with rage.
"That was a disaster. The mayor is furious! I've lost count of the angry phone calls, emails, and people in the town, alumni and parents. They want answers and so do I."
"I would lead the inquisition, but I left my thumbscrews and rack at home."
"Miss Addams... you're already on thin ice. Wafer-thin ice. I swear on my late scorpion's soul, my hands are clean." She said, which wasn't necesarilly untrue as the only "Hand" involved was thing.
"I may not have hard evidence, but I see you. You're a trouble magnet. If trouble means standing up to lies, decades of discrimination, centuries of treating outcasts like second-class citizens or worse..."
"What are you talking about?"
"Jericho. Why does this town even have an Outreach Day? Don't you know its real history with outcasts? The actual story of Joseph Crackstone?" Wednesday asks, and Weems frowns before nodding.
"I do. To an extent."
"Then why be complicit in its cover up? Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it."
"That's where you and I differ. Where you see doom, I see opportunity. Maybe this is a chance to rewrite the wrongs, to start a new chapter in the normie-outcast relations."
"Nothing has changed since Crackstone. They still hate us. Only now they sugarcoat it with platitudes and smiles. If you're unwilling to fight for truth..."
"You don't think I want the truth? Of course I do. But the world isn't always black and white. There are shades of gray."
"Maybe for you. But it's either they write our story or we do. You can't have it both ways."
"You're exhausting." Weems sighs, but Wednesday stay put.
"I know."
"...Goodnight, Miss Addams. But you should know... I don't tire easily." Weems says, before Wednesday leaves back to her room. Wednesday types on her antique typewriter, while on the other side of the room Enid was trying on clothes before asking her to help choose."
"Too much?" She asks.
"I feel like you just napalmed me, Enid." Wednesday responds.
"So glad I have my date with Ajax tonight. Get my mind off that trainwreck of an afternoon. I literally think I have PTSD. I didn't even get to do my dance routine."
"What a tragedy." Wednesday says.
"What kind of twisted psycho would want to sabotage such a life-affirming event?" Wednesday slyly smirks and shrugs.
"You're going to be late." Wednesday says ash Enid finishes getting dressed.
"Wish me luck."
"If he breaks your heart, I'll nail-gun his." She says and Enid leaves leaving Wednesday all alone, atleast until she felt a familiar gentle breeze brush across her face and the sound of someone landing on her Balcony. She quickly gets out of her desk and walks out to find Y/N there seemingly waiting for her.
"Hey, that was quite the performance you put on earlier, the pyrotechniques were a nice touch. I've never even seen Weems that pissed off before. But I gotta ask, why? He asks as they walk togethr to the edge of the balcony.
"To send a message, I don't believe in mandatory volunteer work, sugar-coated history, or happy endings, but most of all... I don't believe in coincidences. To paraphrase Agatha Christie, one coincidence is just a coincidence, two are a clue...and three are proof. Rowan's drawing of me and Crackstone happens sometime in the future. Goody Addams' warnings about Crackstone were in the past. And the monster is here in the present. Three coincidences that I know are connected. That monster could be anyone. The sheriff thinks they only exist behind the walls of this school. The truth is, there are monsters everywhere. And sometimes the monsters we least suspect are the most dangerous. They don't need teeth and claws to terrify. They hide in the shadows until no one is looking. And then they strike. But I'm looking now. And I won't stop until I find the truth. She ways with overwhelming intensity and conviction, Y/N smiles believing every word.
"Speaking of finding the truth, there's one I'd like to know from you Y/N" She asks and Y/N looks at her both confused but also slightly intrigued.
"Um...ok, sure what do you wanna know?"
"Who's Sarah?" She asks and Y/N's face instantly becomes paler as if the life was slowly being stripped away from him, the wind around him grew colder yet fainter barely even a draft coming off from him as her slowly turned to her shaking. Wednesday for the first time instantly felt regret for asking seeing the state he was now in.
"H-How do you know that name?" He said, his words barely a whisper in the winds.
"I spoke to her...In my vision." She says and Y/N slowly nods still shaking "A-And what d-did she say? He asked his voice slightly louder now.
"She...asked me to deliver a message to you, she seemingly knew that we have been...acquainted for quite some time now." She says and Y/N's eyes widen either from surprise or fear she did not know. "What...what was the message." He asked, his fist clenching an unclenching nervously.
"She simply said, Thank you." Wednesday said and watched as Y/N went completely silent, his head lowered as his shaking ceased entirely, before she heard the faintest of sobs and then the lightest and purest of laughs."
"Thank you, she said thank you." Y/N says, wiping the tears from his eyes as he slowly lifts his head to face her. "I'm sorry I-I don't think I can tell you the whole truth behind that yet, but I want too and I will someday if you'd let me?" He asks and Wednesday simply nods her normally cold and uncarring persona breaking away slowly as she looks at the boy, who seemed so carefree weep before her. "Of course." She says and Y/N smiles at her softly his eyes filled with something Wednesday could not describe nor had ever seen before.
"You really are something else, Wednesday Addams." She says softly but strongly Wednesday simply stood there for once not knowing what to do in her situation.
"I was simplu carrying out a request nothing more and nothing le--" She says, before Wednesdays face freezes up like ice, her entire body stiffens, and she simply stres forward as she felt the soft touch of Y/N's lips on her cheek. Y/N slowly pull away and smiles his pure, contagious and Idiotic smile once more "Thank you Wednesday, Thank you." He says before leaping off the balcony and Vanishing into the winds likely not to get killed, leaving Wednesday stood there a feeling of rage, confusion and hundreds of other emotions filling her mind before feeling a sensation she had never felt before as she slowly places one hand to her cheek and another to her heart before smiling slightly as she wondered one thing.
"You idiot...what is this feeling, what did you do to me?
