A Magical Kickoff
Another big thank you to moonkissedgirl for making such an amazing cover! 😁
NO ONE'S POV:
Liverpool, England
(We see young John Constantine II in a closet, searching for something.)
John: Come on. Come on! I know father has a spellbook around here somewhere!
(John continues searching the closet. Tossing aside a bunch of clothes he's never seen his father wore.)
John: With all of these clothes he has, I wonder why all he wears is a trenchcoat, a plain white shirt, and a red tie.
(John finally finishes searching the closet & unfortunately he's unable to find the spellbook. He does find a gold helmet.)
John: Hmm?
(John picks up the helmet & holds it up to his face.)
John: This looks familiar.
(John takes the helmet & places it on his father's poker table.)
John's thoughts: I think this might be--no! This helmet couldn't possibly be...
John: Sure is shiny though.
(John's dad walks in & immediately notices what his son is looking at.)
Constantine: What do you think you're doing, John?
John: Oh. Hi, father.
Constantine: I'm waiting, John.
John: Well, I was-
Constantine: You were trying to find my spellbook again, weren't you?
John: Okay, yes. But I did find this helmet.
(Constantine walks up to his son & kneels down to his height.)
Constantine: Now, I need you to be honest with me.
John: Okay?
Constantine: Were you about to put it on?
John: No.
Constantine: Good.
John: It's just a hel-
(Constantine grabs his son tightly by the side of his arms.)
Constantine: That is no ordinary helmet!
John: All right, all right, let me go!
(Constantine lets go of his son.)
John: [groans]
John's thoughts: Was that really necessary?
Constantine: [sighs] Do you still plan on going to Hogwarts?
John: Of course.
Constantine: I wish you'd reconsider.
John: I would if you'd just teach me magic yourself.
Constantine: John, we've been over this.
John: Right, you just want to teach me how to con.
Constantine: You're getting quite good at it to be honest.
John: No I'm not. I'd ask mother, but she's busy do-
Constantine: Hmm, Zee. How is she by the way?
John: She's good. You should probably ask her yourself.
Constantine: If only it was that easy, son.
John: Actually, it is.
(There's an awkward silence between the father & son.)
John: I'm going to head over to Diagon Alley to get what I need. Would you like to join me? You know what? I already know the answer.
(John walks towards the door.)
Constantine: John, wait-
(John walks out of the apartment before his father can say anything else.)
Constantine: Ugh. Damn, kid. I just want what's best for him.
(Constantine pulls out a pack of cigarettes, takes one out, places it in his mouth, takes out a lighter, & lights it.)
Constantine: [muffled] He's so much like me.
(Constantine takes the cigarette out of his mouth & blows out the smoke.)
Constantine: I hate that.
(Constantine places the cigarette back in his mouth as he looks at the helmet.)
Constantine: [muffled] What are you looking at?
Diagon Alley
(John is currently walking amongst the people of Diagon Alley.)
John: I don't even know what I expected from him. [sighs] I wish I was back with mother.
(John makes his way into a bookstore & gets all of the required textbooks he needs. As he's standing in line, he realizes something.)
John: I don't have any money.
John's thoughts: Good job, John.
John: Probably would've been smart as you were storming out to grab some money on your way out.
Constantine: Yeah, that would've been smart.
John: Uh?
(John looks beside to see his father standing next to him.)
John: How'd you get here?
Constantine: You already know the answer to that.
John: A spell?
Constantine: Correct, my boy.
John: Can you teach that spell?
Constantine: When you need to learn it.
John: All right, so why are you here?
Constantine: I did some thinking.
John: And?
Constantine: You're going to Hogwarts in one way or another, so I might as well try to be supportive.
John: You mean it?
Constantine: I'm here to pay for what you need, aren't I?
John: Good point. Thank you.
Constantine: Don't mention it.
(After buying the books, the Constantines walk along Diagon Alley & buy most of the remaining items that John needs for Hogwarts. As they're walking though, John notices that his father is getting some unsavory looks from the people around them. John decides to pay it no mind.)
John: Looks like all I need now is...a wand and an owl, cat, or a toad.
Constantine: Do you really need a wand?
John: I was thinking about that. I mean, you and mother don't use wands to use magic. From the few spells that mother's taught me, I've been able to cast them without a spell.
Constantine: Is that so?
John: Yes!
Constantine: All right, then. Show your old man what your mother's taught you.
John: *smiles* Okay, do you see those boxes over there?
(Constantine looks over at some boxes against a wall.)
Constantine: I do.
John: [clears his throat]
Constantine's thoughts: This oughta be good.
John: Etativel sexob!
(Translated into "Levitate boxes.")
(The boxes begin to levitate.)
John: Well? What do you think?
Constantine: Very impressive, John.
(Constantine gives his son a head pat.)
John: *smiles brightly*
Constantine's thoughts: He has Zee's smile.
John: Only need one more thing now.
(Cut to the Constantines inside the Magical Menagerie where John is looking at some cats.)
Constantine: You're going to get a cat?
John: Uh, yes?
Constantine: But you're not a witch.
John: I don't remember cats being solely for witches.
Constantine: They're not-
John: Then we've got nothing to worry about.
Constantine: Go on, pick one.
(John looks at all of the cats until his eyes stop on a black cat. John lifts the cage that the black is in.)
John: Hmm.
Proprietor: I see she's caught your eye.
John: You could say that.
Proprietor: You know, black cats make loyal, charming pets.
Constantine: It's also said they're a symbol of good luck.
John: I suppose I'll be needing plenty of that while at Hogwarts.
(John puts his face up to the cage.)
Black Cat: [meows]
John: I'll take her!
(Cut to the father & son on their way to Platform 9 ¾.)
Constantine: What are you going to name her?
John: I was thinking of Roxie.
Constantine: Good name.
John: Yeah, plus, I feel like it fits.
(They arrive in front of Platform 9 ¾.)
John: Hey, father?
Constantine: You're wondering what'll happen if you run into that platform and don't go through, right?
John: Right...
Constantine: Well, you'll fall and take your stuff with you.
John: What do I do then?
Constantine: You get up and try again.
John: Ha, of course.
(John is about to run into the platform but before he can even take a step, his father places a hand on his shoulder. Resulting in John looking up at his father.)
Constantine: John, I...good luck.
John: Thank you, father.
(With that, John runs into Platform 9 ¾ & thankfully goes through it.)
John: [chuckles] I made it! Was it because of you, Roxie?
Roxie: [meows]
John: I'll take that as a yes.
(John looks up to see smoke. He follows the smoke down to see the...)
John: The Hogwarts Express.
(John makes his way towards the train. Little did he know that he would meet some lifelong friends & go on the adventure of a lifetime.)
