Chapter 94: Karasuno VS Johzenji Part 2

The first set came to an end, with Karasuno winning 25-21. As the boys switched sides, Ennoshita and Kinoshita rushed up to Narita to congratulate him for playing in an official match. Meanwhile, Tanaka and Sugawara couldn't help but comment on Johzenji's synchro-attack.

"Now that looks familiar," Tanaka sighed, reminiscing about their own past blunders. "We derped like that more than once."

"We still do that sometimes..." Sugawara sweatdropped, recalling some recent mishaps.

"Well, they were just copying you guys," (y/n) chimed in, acknowledging the inspiration Karasuno provided.

Agreeing, Keishin added, "That was a total 'monkey-see, monkey-do' kinda thing."

"What?!" Takeda turned around, looking shocked. "They did that not only when they were behind but when their opponent had set point too?"

"I guess they thought they still had time," (y/n) shrugged. "Since it was only the first set."

"But still, that's some frightening recklessness if you ask me," Keishin chuckled.

"There is one thing I've noticed..." Takeda said, glancing up at the stands. "What do you make of the Johzenji team banner?"

(Y/n) glanced up as well, examining the banner. "Well, it's supposed to be their team motto..."

"It just doesn't seem to fit them very well," Takeda continued, contemplating. "Something like 'wild and free' would be better for them."

Nodding in agreement, (y/n) and Keishin shared a smile. Keishin then clarified the banner's context. "Actually, up until recently, the Johzenji team was really about austerity and power."

"Austerity?" Kageyama questioned, intrigued.

"Breeds power?" Hinata joined in, eager to understand.

"It means you don't have to be fancy to have a solid foundation and good skills," Sugawara explained.

Though Kageyama and Hinata seemed to grasp the concept, Tsukishima couldn't help but insert a snide remark. "Why bother explaining? It's just going in one ear and out the other."

As the first years continued their playful banter, Keishin and Takeda delved into a deeper conversation about the previous Johzenji team and coach. Things had changed for the Johzenji team, and it might be a positive thing for them.

The second set was about to begin, and Keishin asked Hinata and Kageyama if they were ready to play again. Their answer was clear: they were more than ready.

The 'weirdo pair' was back, and their seniors could tell that they were both too hyped up.

"(Y/n)-san, I hope you're prepared for what's coming," Sugawara whispered with a smirk.

"Ugh, I'm as ready as I can be," (y/n) replied, half excited and half anxious about the unpredictable plays the duo would attempt.

The second set started with a serve from Johzenji, which Nishinoya received with ease. Kageyama went for a quick attack with Hinata, but the timing was slightly off, causing the ball to go too far for Hinata to reach. However, Daichi anticipated this and managed to keep the ball in play.

"Alright, Daichi-senpai! Nicely done!" (y/n) cheered from the side.

"Way to save their butts!" Nishinoya chimed in.

"Please don't say it like that..." Daichi sweatdropped.

Johzenji retaliated with a free ball, and Tersushima attempted a powerful spike, only to have it expertly received by Daichi. The Karasuno captain was in top condition. This time, Kageyama and Hinata executed a successful quick attack, earning a well-deserved point for their team.

"Well played, guys! Keep going!" (y/n) encouraged them.

As the second set continued, it was clear that Karasuno was at the top of their game, getting point after point. They had adjusted to the Johzenji play style, and their synchronization was on point.

While Karasuno was doing well, the Johzenji team started to struggle, becoming too aggressive and making too many mistakes. Their coach called a time-out to address their issues.

During the time-out, (y/n) couldn't help but overhear the Johzenji team being scolded by their manager, Misaki. Everything the manager said was true, and (y/n) silently nodded along, trying to hold in her laughter.

The Karasuno members also picked up on a few points, and it seemed like some of them were a bit envious.

"Kiyoko-san, (y/n)-san..." Tanaka and Nishinoya began hesitantly. "We're not really sure why, but we think it's a good idea if you scolded us too..."

"No." Kiyoko replied coldly, while (y/n) snickered behind her.

"Then..." Tanaka and Nishinoya remained hopeful, turning around and bending over a little, ready for a smacking.

"I am not spanking your butts," Kiyoko sighed, exasperated.

But that was enough to make the boys happy, and hearing Kiyoko say the word 'spanking' filled them with joy.

'They can be so weird,' (y/n) thought to herself, shaking her head in amusement.

The time-out was over, and the second set continued with Karasuno leading 17-11. But somehow, it felt like the set was only truly beginning now.

This time, the Johzenji team played much better, as if they had finally started thinking about their plays. Their manager's talk had clearly made an impact.

Even though Keishin had told the Karasuno team to step back if they were unsure what the Johzenji team was going to do, Tsukishima still managed to completely block one of their spikes.

"Well done, String Bean! Show them how blocking is done!" (y/n) cheered.

"Calm down, Munchkin-san," Tsukishima smirked. "I don't need a personal cheerleader."

"Keep talking and see what happens," (y/n) growled back at him.

Terushima devised a plan to deal with Hinata and Kageyama's quick attack. Instead of trying to block, they would focus on making a dig. It was a tactic similar to what Aoba Johsai used, and it clearly frustrated Hinata. But it didn't stop him. Hinata went for another spike and slammed it down between the Johzenji players.

The intense back-and-forth continued as both teams fought fiercely for every point. Daichi then decided to step in and drop a little hint. Hinata hadn't used a certain attack of his yet. Taking Daichi's advice to heart, Hinata instantly went for a feint and scored Karasuno another point.

Karasuno was now at match point, and Johzenji, staying true to their colors, tried another synchro-attack. This time, Terushima managed to hit the ball, but it sailed out. Karasuno emerged victorious, winning the match. The final score was 25-20 for the second set.
