Chapter 77: Pre-Match Jitters

The next morning arrived with a sense of anticipation in the air, and (y/n) found herself waking up earlier than usual, unable to contain her excitement. As she bounded out of bed, Kenta, too, roused from his slumber and stretched adorably, joining his companion in their morning routine. Together, they ventured into the kitchen, where (y/n)'s brother was already awake, engrossed in analyzing attack formations while enjoying his breakfast.

"Morning Nii-chan!" (y/n) greeted him cheerfully, making her presence known.

"Couldn't sleep properly either, Jinx?" Keishin inquired, looking up from his papers.

"Nope, not at all," (y/n) replied with a wide grin as she busied herself with preparing her own breakfast. "I'm just too excited for today. I have no doubt they'll do great."

Her brother nodded in understanding. "They've got more walls to overcome this time," he remarked, his voice tinged with a hint of concern.

"But no matter what the wall is, we'll find a way to deal with it," (y/n) declared with unwavering confidence. "I believe in them."

Keishin observed his sister for a moment, his gaze filled with a mixture of pride and reassurance. It was a rare occurrence for him to address her by name instead of the usual teasing nicknames, and (y/n) knew it signified the importance of their conversation.

"As I am counting on you, (y/n)," he responded earnestly. "You've become an invaluable support for the team."

A warm smile spread across (y/n)'s face, her eyes shining with determination. "And I am counting on you, Nii-chan," she said, her voice brimming with unwavering trust. "Together, we'll do everything we can to guide them to victory."

Their bond, forged through years of sibling camaraderie and shared love for the sport, grew stronger in that moment. As they finished their breakfast and prepared to leave for the tournament, a sense of unity and determination enveloped them. They knew that, no matter the obstacles that lay ahead, their unwavering support and dedication would propel the Karasuno team forward.

With a final exchange of encouraging words and a heartfelt embrace, (y/n) and Keishin set off, ready to face the challenges of the day. Their unwavering belief in the team, coupled with their shared determination, would serve as a guiding light, illuminating the path toward victory.

...

Finally arriving at the venue of the matches, (y/n) observed the team with a knowing smile. As expected, they were a bundle of nerves and excitement, their expressions a mix of anticipation and unease.

"See, Yachi, they're a mess!" (y/n) giggled, nudging the blonde beside her.

Yachi scratched the back of her head, a mixture of surprise and concern on her face. "Ah, yeah! It's unexpected, in a way. I mean, it's very different from the practice matches we did."

"The excitement and determination come after the nerves for some of them," (y/n) reassured her.

"I hope so," Yachi sighed, her worry lingering.

"Nothing to worry about, they'll get there soon enough," (y/n) laughed, her eyes following Hinata as he hurried towards the bathroom. "Uh, I'll go check on him. Don't want him to throw up again."

Handing the bag containing Kenta to Yachi, (y/n) made her way in the same direction as Hinata. The venue buzzed with activity, and in the midst of the crowd, (y/n) unintentionally collided with someone, jolting her out of her thoughts.

"Hey! Watch where you're going!" she exclaimed, her gaze rising to meet the towering figure in front of her.

'He's an actual giant! Wait... Is this the 2-meter guy people were talking about?' (y/n) thought, craning her neck to meet his gaze.

"Sorry," the giant apologized, bowing down to (y/n). "I didn't see you since you're so tiny."

"Tiny!? I'm not that small! You're just too tall, dammit!" (y/n) retorted before sighing. "I'm Ukai (y/n), by the way. Nice to meet you."

"I am Hyakuzawa Yuudai," he introduced himself with a small bow.

"A man of few words, I see..." (y/n) chuckled. "How tall are you, by the way? I'm hurting my neck looking up at you."

"201.2cm, last time I checked," he replied matter-of-factly.

"Damn! That's impressive!" (y/n) exclaimed, a genuine smile forming on her face. "It must give you a great advantage in volleyball!"

"Volleyball is very simple. Height is all you need," Hyakuzawa stated.

"Huh? I mean, height is important, but it's definitely not all that matters," (y/n) disagreed, her voice filled with conviction. "No matter how tall you are, you can't win with just that. But I'm sure you'll find that out soon enough."

Before Hyakuzawa could respond, another teenager with light brown hair and glasses intervened, his tone cold and dismissive. "Hyakuzawa? What are you doing here? Don't talk to her."

"Huh? Who are you?" (y/n) questioned, taken aback by the sudden hostility. "I'm Ukai—"

"I know who you are, that's why we won't talk to you," the teen interjected, giving her a cold look. "Let's go, Hyakuzawa."

With that, the two males walked away, leaving (y/n) standing alone, a mix of confusion and annoyance settling in.

"That's just rude," (y/n) grumbled under her breath. "Oh, damn, I forgot about Hinata!"

Hastening her steps, (y/n) made her way to the bathroom, her heart pounding with a mix of worry and determination. She hoped to find Hinata there and provide him with the support he needed before their first match began. As she weaved through the bustling crowd, her focus remained unwavering, the encounter with Hyakuzawa and the mysterious teen fading into the background.

Suddenly, (y/n) turned a corner and collided with someone, causing her to stumble and fall over them. She quickly apologized as she sat up, her eyes meeting Hinata's flushed face.

"I'm so sorry!" (y/n) exclaimed, a hint of amusement in her voice as she moved to sit next to him rather than on top of him. "Hinata, I was looking for you. Our warm-up is about to start. Let's go!"

"R-right!" Hinata stammered, his cheeks still bright red as they both scrambled to their feet and rushed toward the rest of the team.

"You look better than before. That's good," (y/n) remarked, her voice filled with genuine concern. "Guess the bathroom break helped."

"I didn't go," Hinata clarified, his voice filled with apprehension. "I ran into a scary guy! That always happens when I go to the bathroom!"

"Huh? What do you mean?" (y/n) asked, curiosity piqued.

Hinata went on to tell (y/n) about his previous encounters with intimidating individuals in the bathroom, tracing back to his middle school days when he played against Kageyama.

"You should stop going to the bathroom alone, then!" (y/n) couldn't help but laugh at the amusing stories. "I'll escort you next time!"

"U-uh, th-that's okay! I-I c-can do it myself!" Hinata stammered, his face growing even redder with embarrassment.

"Come on, Hinata, don't be stubborn," (y/n) teased, nudging him playfully. "It's better to have someone by your side. Plus, I'll make sure no one scares you!"

Hinata hesitated for a moment before finally giving in to (y/n)'s persistence, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Okay, (y/n)-san. But only if you promise not to laugh if I get scared again!"

"Deal!" (y/n) grinned, linking her arm with his as they continued their brisk walk toward the rest of the team. "I'll be your official bathroom buddy from now on!"

Both (y/n) and Hinata finally joined the others in the bustling gymnasium, the energy buzzing with anticipation for the team's first match, the boys were already getting ready for their first match.

As she found her places on the sideline, (y/n) couldn't help but glance up at the cheering stands, where Yachi stood alone, cheering on the team with all her might.

"It's a shame only one manager can sit on the bench," (y/n) remarked, her voice filled with sympathy. "Yachi looks so lonely up there."

Kiyoko, the ever-supportive senpai, smiled kindly at (y/n) and reassured her, "I'm sure she'll do her best cheering the boys on from there. Yachi has a lot of spirit."

"I'm sure of that!" (y/n) exclaimed, a bright smile illuminating her face. "So let's do our best to cheer them on from here!"

The team finished their warm-ups, and the atmosphere grew tense with excitement. Takeda gathered the boys for a pre-match pep talk, emphasizing the importance of their newly formed skills and the significance of this tournament. While he spoke, (y/n) couldn't help but steal glances at the cheering stands, hoping to catch a glimpse of Yachi.

To her surprise, (y/n) spotted a familiar figure standing beside Yachi, holding her bag while sneakily petting Kenta inside it. The realization made her heart swell with warmth and joy.

"Gramps!" (y/n) exclaimed, unable to contain her excitement. She waved up to her grandfather, eager to share the news. "Look, Nii-chan, Gramps came to watch us!"

Keishin, however, grumbled under his breath, "Way to add more pressure, Jinx."

Turning his attention to the boys, he raised his voice with authority, "Well, go out there and show that old man what we've got!"

With renewed determination, the team shouted in unison, "Yes, sir!" Their unity and shared resolve resonated through the gymnasium as they walked onto the court.

As the match was about to begin, the gymnasium fell into a hushed silence, the air thick with anticipation. (Y/n) took her place on the sideline, her eyes fixed on the court. She could feel the collective energy and nerves emanating from the players, but she knew they were prepared for this moment.
