Chapter 65: Cute Booping

As (y/n) hobbled into the gym, her crutches supporting her injured ankle, she clutched the notes that Keishin had returned to her. Nervousness flickered in her eyes as she observed Kageyama and Hinata, the once-inseparable duo who seemed to be avoiding each other. A determined expression crossed her face as she thought, 'I see those two are still refusing to talk to each other. Well, let's see how they react to how much they've grown.'

Taking a deep breath, (y/n) made her way toward the volleyball court. The familiar sounds of sneakers squeaking on the polished wooden floor and the echoing thuds of balls being spiked filled the air, creating an atmosphere of anticipation and energy.

Lost in her own world, (y/n) didn't hear the ear-splitting screech and thundering of feet coming her way until she collided into someone's strong chest. The impact jolted her, and before she could react, she found herself twirling through the air like a ragdoll, her heart racing with both excitement and fear. "Oh no, not again," she thought.

"(Y/n)-san! I missed you!" a familiar voice exclaimed with exuberance, making her squeal in surprise.

Caught off guard, (y/n) desperately clung to the shirt of her assailant, trying to maintain some semblance of balance. As the world spun around her, she realized she had been swept into Bokuto's enthusiastic embrace. She could feel his excitement reverberating through his body.

However, before she could catch her breath, a well-timed chop on Bokuto's head and a firm hand pulling her away interrupted the whirlwind. It was Akaashi, his calm demeanor contrasting with Bokuto's wild enthusiasm.

"(Y/n)-san could have suffocated there," Akaashi stated with a touch of concern, his voice laced with a hint of reprimand. "And she's still injured, remember?"

Bokuto's face fell as his exuberance turned into remorse. "Oh, I didn't think about that. I'm sorry, (y/n)-san," he apologized, his voice tinged with genuine remorse. "I guess I got carried away with excitement."

(Y/n) smiled warmly, reassuring Bokuto that she was fine. "Don't worry, Bokuto-senpai. It's always an adventure when you're around."

With the tension diffused, Bokuto returned to his boisterous self, bouncing on his toes. "(Y/n)-san, you won't believe the amazing spikes I've been practicing! I can't wait to show you!"

Akaashi's lips curled into a small smile as he watched Bokuto's enthusiasm. He glanced down at (y/n), concern flickering in his eyes. "Are you sure you're okay? That was quite an entrance."

(Y/n) nodded, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I'm okay, Akaashi-senpai. Just a little dizzy, but I'll be fine. I'm glad to see both of you again."

And just like that, Bokuto's energy returned in full force. The white-haired teen pranced around (y/n) and Akaashi, his enthusiasm infecting the entire gymnasium. Laughter and cheers echoed through the air until their coach's voice pierced through the commotion, reminding them to focus and warm up for the upcoming match.

Keishin, who had been observing the scene, called out to his sister with a mischievous grin on his face. "Oi, Jinx! You're sitting on the Fukurodani bench this match. I want you to see what our team looks like from an opponent's standpoint."

(Y/n) raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her brother's request. "Alright," she agreed, a sense of anticipation building within her. "Guess that means I'm with you guys this match."

Akaashi nodded, leading her over to the bench. He promptly propped up her leg and wrapped her ankle in ice, taking care to ensure she was comfortable. However, (y/n) couldn't help but groan, claiming that her leg was perfectly fine.

Unfazed by her protests, Akaashi gently booped her on the nose, effectively silencing her complaints. "Don't be so stubborn," he chided softly. "I swear Bokuto-san is rubbing off on you. I'll rewrap your ankle during the break."

Reluctantly conceding defeat, (y/n) huffed and crossed her arms. "Fine," she stuttered, her cheeks tinged with a slight blush. "But don't get the wrong idea. It's only because you're insisting."

Akaashi's own cheeks flushed ever so slightly as he chuckled at (y/n)'s adorable reaction. Turning his attention back to his duties, he focused on preparing the team for the match. However, unbeknownst to him, everyone who had overheard their interaction couldn't help but blush at (y/n)'s cute response, while also shooting subtle glares in Akaashi's direction for being the cause of it all.

Meanwhile, (y/n) shifted her gaze away, feeling a mixture of embarrassment and amusement. She couldn't help but be grateful for the playful banter that surrounded her, even if it occasionally led to teasing and mock arguments.

All seemed to be going well until Nekomata, the ever mischievous presence, decided to seize the opportunity to tease (y/n).

"Who would've thought you were a tsundere, Spifire?" Nekomata mocked, his voice laced with amusement. "You're even more like your grandfather than I thought!"

Flushing with indignation, (y/n) quickly fired back, determined to defend herself. "I'm not a tsundere!" she argued, her voice filled with conviction. "I am simply behaving politely. And by the way, how the hell do you even know what a tsundere is!? You're too old for that terminology! Now, go back to eating your blended food, you old man!"

Nekomata chuckled heartily, clearly enjoying the exchange. "Ah, (y/n), still as temperamental as ever," he commented, a playful glint in his eyes.

Unable to resist joining in, Naoi, another familiar face in the gym, interjected with a smirk. "Those two never change," he sighed dramatically, shaking his head. "But (y/n), you've always had a fiery spirit."

Keishin, (y/n)'s brother and the coach of Karasuno, joined the conversation, adding his own grievances to the mix. "Yeah, well, I have to deal with Jinx and my grandfather," he complained, gesturing towards (y/n). "Gramps spoils her rotten and throws me around. It's not fair."

Naoi couldn't resist teasing further, a mischievous glimmer in his eyes. "Well, everyone does seem to prefer her over you," he remarked with a teasing tone.

Keishin deadpanned, shooting a mock glare at Naoi. "I hate you," he retorted, though the faint hint of a smile betrayed his true feelings.

...

As the first set came to an end, a sense of disappointment hung in the air. It was evident that the players were individually evolving, but they had yet to synchronize their changes and perform as a cohesive unit. Hinata and Kageyama, in particular, were locked in a constant observation of each other, their competitive spirits fueling their determination to outdo one another. Nishinoya's incredible jumping ability occasionally got the better of him, causing him to overshoot his targets. And then there was the synchronized attack, which turned into a disastrous display of miscommunication.

While (y/n) diligently scribbled down her notes, the Fukurodani team watched her with amusement and affection. Washio couldn't help but comment, "She looks like she's going to murder that paper."

Konoha chimed in, his eyes sparkling, "And did you see? Her tongue is sticking out when she concentrates. It's so adorable!"

Bokuto, unable to contain his longing, whined, "I just want to hug her again! But Akaashi said I can't!"

Speaking of Akaashi, the dark-haired setter noticed (y/n) engrossed in her work and decided to approach her with bandages and a water bottle. He settled down next to her, patiently waiting for her to acknowledge his presence. Realizing she was too focused on her notes, he swiftly snatched them away and handed her the water bottle, drawing her attention.

"Oh, sorry Akaashi-senpai!" (y/n) exclaimed, her voice laced with surprise. "Thanks for the water."

Akaashi nodded calmly. "No problem. Now, put your leg on my lap, and I'll wrap your ankle."

Doing as instructed, (y/n) rested her leg on Akaashi's lap, allowing him to gently tend to her ankle. As he skillfully wrapped the bandage, Akaashi engaged her in conversation, providing updates on the team's progress.

"We took your training regimes seriously, and it has paid off," Akaashi began, a touch of pride in his voice. "Coach was amazed at the progress we made in such a short amount of time."

A bright smile spread across (y/n)'s face. "I'm glad to hear that! I was quite nervous since I didn't get to work with you guys as much as I had hoped."

Akaashi's gaze softened, his admiration evident. "You're amazing at what you do. There was no reason to be nervous."

With a heartfelt expression of gratitude, (y/n) wiggled her foot to ensure the bandage was secure. The sound of the whistle signaled the beginning of the second set, urging them to return to the court.

Before Akaashi left, he added, "Oh, one more thing. You look even cuter without your stitches."

Blushing at the unexpected compliment, (y/n) playfully pushed Akaashi and urged him to join the rest of the team on the court. As he complied, he couldn't resist giving her one last boop on the nose, causing her cheeks to flush even deeper.

Shyly covering her face with her hands, (y/n) couldn't hide her delighted smile. 'I think he's just going to keep doing that now,' she thought to herself, feeling a warmth spread through her heart.
