Chapter 54: Hospital

After a nerve-wracking wait, they finally arrived at the hospital. Keishin quickly instructed Sugawara to take (y/n) inside while he found a parking spot. The third-year setter nodded, understanding the urgency, and gently guided (y/n) through the hospital doors.

Inside, Sugawara's anxiety heightened as he desperately sought help for his injured friend. His voice trembled as he called out to a passing nurse, his concern evident in every word.

"Excuse me, please," Sugawara's voice wavered. "I need help. My friend is hurt."

The compassionate nurse immediately sprang into action, taking in the sight of (y/n)'s injuries and swiftly guiding her onto a bed. With practiced efficiency, she assessed (y/n)'s vital signs and promptly alerted a doctor.

"Don't worry," the nurse offered reassurance to Sugawara. "Your friend is in good hands now. Why don't you have a seat over there, and I'll come to get you once we've completed the examination?"

Sugawara nodded gratefully, his legs feeling weak as he made his way to the waiting area. He sank into one of the chairs, his eyes fixed on (y/n) as the nurse led her away for further evaluation. The sight of her in pain tore at his heart, fueling his desire to be there for her every step of the way.

Moments later, Keishin entered the hospital, frustration etched on his face as he joined Sugawara in the waiting area. He muttered under his breath about parking fees, his annoyance temporarily overshadowed by his concern for (y/n)'s well-being.

"They said they'll come get us once they're finished examining her," Sugawara informed Keishin, his voice laced with worry. "The doctor is on his way down. They mentioned something about checking her head and ankle."

Keishin let out a sigh, his fingers drumming anxiously on his knee. "Yeah, I hope it's nothing too serious. She's a tough one, but she shouldn't have to endure all this pain."

Sugawara nodded in agreement, his gaze never leaving (y/n). Their shared concern for her formed an unspoken bond between them, transcending the boundaries of friendship. They both knew that (y/n) needed their unwavering support now more than ever.

As they sat in the hospital waiting area, time seemed to stretch endlessly. The muffled sounds of footsteps and hushed conversations enveloped them, each passing minute a testament to their mounting impatience. But amidst the uncertainty and worry, they found solace in each other's presence, drawing strength from their shared determination to see (y/n) through this ordeal.

After skillfully tending to (y/n)'s knee and other minor cuts, the nurse returned to the waiting area, where she noticed Keishin had joined Sugawara. Concerned about (y/n)'s well-being, she approached Keishin to discuss the incident in more detail. Keishin gratefully recounted the events, grateful for the second-year's account of what had transpired.

Given permission, Keishin and Sugawara were escorted to a private room where they could wait for the doctor. As they entered the room, they found (y/n) appearing slightly more alert and comfortable after receiving assistance from the nurse.

Finally, the doctor arrived, approaching (y/n) with a gentle smile on his face, exuding a calm and reassuring aura.

"Hello there," the doctor greeted (y/n). "Looks like you've had a rough night."

(Y/n) nodded meekly, her voice still subdued due to the lingering pain.

"I'm guessing you aren't very chatty because of the pain," the doctor continued, his tone understanding. "But we've given you some painkillers that should start working soon. We've elevated your ankle and applied ice to it. Now, I'll take a look at the cut on your head."

"Definitely because of the pain," (y/n) confirmed, managing a small smile. "Otherwise, you'd be hearing a string of curses from me."

Chuckling lightly, the doctor began his examination. As he delicately stitched up (y/n)'s forehead, (y/n) firmly gripped her brother's hand, voicing her discomfort through audible grumbles. Once the doctor completed the stitches, (y/n) declared with playful determination that if there were to be a scar, she would seek vengeance upon the responsible party.

The doctor reassured her, suppressing a laugh at her spirited response, and explained that if a scar were to form, it would likely be in her hairline and not highly visible. Keishin apologized on (y/n)'s behalf, acknowledging her colorful personality.

Turning to Keishin, the doctor provided an update on (y/n)'s condition. "Well, she seems all right," he began. "There doesn't appear to be a concussion, but I'd like to keep her here overnight for observation, just to be safe. She has a grade 2 sprain, meaning she has partially torn her ligaments. She'll need to ice her ankle frequently and keep it elevated as much as possible. Additionally, she shouldn't bear weight on it and will need to use crutches and wear an ankle brace. I recommend using crutches for a good 2 to 4 weeks. After the initial 2 weeks, she can gradually apply light pressure and reduce reliance on the crutches. However, it's crucial not to stop using them abruptly."

Upon hearing this, Keishin firmly asserted his decision. "Jinx, you're using those crutches for 4 weeks," he declared. "I've spoken to Gramps, and he agrees."

"Dammit!", (y/n) grumbled in response, accepting her fate with resignation.

"And even if he didn't, I wouldn't let you walk around," Keishin added, his protective nature shining through. "You're going to get better, and then I'm going to make the person responsible feel the full weight of their actions."

Listening to her brother's declaration, (y/n) couldn't help but smile, finding solace in his love and protection, even in his fierce words.

The doctor interjected with a crucial piece of information. "She'll also require physiotherapy," he explained. "I understand you're from the Miyagi prefecture. I've reached out to a good friend of mine who works at the hospital near your high school, and he'll be your physiotherapist. Now, let's get you out of the examination room and into your own room so you can rest. Ukai-san, if you could please speak to the nurses at the front desk, they'll provide you with all the necessary information regarding her treatment and the physiotherapy schedule."

Nodding in acknowledgment, Keishin cast one more concerned gaze at (y/n) before playfully ruffling her hair, still in protective brother mode. He left (y/n) in the capable hands of Sugawara, who assisted her in taking her to her designated room, Sugawara was ready to take on any tasks necessary to support her recovery.

In the comfort of her room, (y/n) settled onto the bed with the nurse's assistance, her ankle once again elevated to alleviate any discomfort. Sugawara, ever attentive, pulled up a chair and positioned himself right beside her, intertwining their hands as a gentle gesture of support.

"I'm okay, Suga-senpai, really," (y/n) reassured him, sensing his lingering concern.

Sugawara offered a warm smile, his eyes reflecting a mixture of relief and lingering worry. "Still, even if you say that," he responded softly, "we were all incredibly worried about you. It's not your fault, of course, but that won't stop me from sitting here, fussing over you, and spoiling you to no end."

A playful giggle escaped (y/n)'s lips as she nodded in agreement. Sugawara proceeded to fluff her pillows and adjust the TV, ensuring it was tuned to a channel playing comforting movies. As he focused on these tasks, he couldn't help but steal a moment to surprise (y/n).

With a tender gesture, Sugawara delicately pulled the covers over her frame, his fingers gently brushing aside strands of her hair to reveal the bandage covering the cut on her forehead. Leaning in, he pressed his lips softly against the bandage, a gentle and affectionate gesture that left (y/n) momentarily flustered.

"S-suga-se-senpai..." (y/n) stammered, her cheeks flushed as she instinctively attempted to hide her bashful reaction beneath the covers.

Sugawara's gaze softened, and he spoke with unwavering sincerity. "You get some rest, alright?" he said, his voice laced with tenderness. "If you need anything at all, let me know. Even if it's the middle of the night and you're feeling bored, just give me a call. I'll talk with you or find a way to be by your side so you're not alone. I promise."

A grateful smile spread across (y/n)'s face, her blush persisting. "Thank you, Suga-senpai," she whispered, her voice filled with genuine appreciation. The depth of Sugawara's care and affection enveloped her, providing solace in the midst of her pain and vulnerability.
