Chapter 49: The Boys R Back

It had been a few days since (y/n) arrived in Tokyo, and she had been eagerly working with various teams, soaking in the unique playing styles and camaraderie of each group. Currently, she found herself surrounded by her Tokyo friends, patiently waiting to reunite with her beloved crows from Karasuno. Anticipation danced in her eyes as the bus finally came to a halt, and the familiar faces stepped out one by one.

Without a moment's hesitation, (y/n) bolted forward, a wide smile adorning her face as she pulled Tanaka and Nishinoya into a tight hug. Their infectious energy matched her own, and they couldn't help but leap at her with equal enthusiasm. Greetings and hellos filled the air as she exchanged warm embraces and playful greetings with each member of the Karasuno team.

However, her joy quickly turned into concern when she realized that two important players were missing.

"Daichi-senpai," (y/n) called out, capturing the attention of the Karasuno captain. "Where are Hinata and Kageyama?"

Daichi's expression shifted, a mix of guilt and apprehension crossing his features as he began to explain the situation.

"Um, about that..." he trailed off, uncertain of how to convey the news.

...

"(Y/n)-san?" Daichi cautiously prompted, waiting for her reaction after explaining the circumstances.

A fire burned in (y/n)'s eyes, and anger surged through her veins as she processed the information. The intensity of her emotions was palpable as she exclaimed in a voice filled with fury, "When I get my hands on them, I'm gonna rip them limb from limb and make a volleyball out of their skin! They are so dead!"

The sheer force of her words sent shockwaves through the Karasuno players and even managed to startle Ennoshita, who desperately tried to calm her down, "(Y/n)-san, please calm down!" But the sharp glare (y/n) directed his way made it clear that her anger was not something to be easily tamed.

"Hell no!" she declared, her voice laced with determination.

Unfazed by her strong reaction, Kuroo casually interjected, "Ah, I forgot to tell you guys that Kitten can be pretty intense."

Akaashi, not one to miss details, commented dryly, "Kuroo, intense is an understatement. She's on a rampage."

Bokuto, ever the optimist, chimed in, "It's not that bad, Akaashi. (Y/n)-san just has a passionate side."

Lev, still processing the situation, couldn't help but question, "Is it healthy for her to get this mad?"

Shrugging nonchalantly, Kuroo replied, "No idea, Lev. No idea."

With a sense of responsibility, Kuroo made his way over to the Karasuno team, acknowledging their captain.

"Once you're changed and ready, head straight to the gym," Kuroo instructed. "Everyone else is already there, eagerly waiting to meet Kitten's team."

Daichi nodded in acknowledgment, his discomfort evident at the nickname Kuroo had given (y/n). However, he knew there was no time to dwell on that matter now.

"Got it," Daichi confirmed, a hint of concern in his voice. He knew that (y/n)'s wrath awaited Hinata and Kageyama, and he could only hope that the situation would be resolved without too much chaos.

As the Karasuno team hurried off to change and prepare, (y/n) took a deep breath, attempting to rein in her anger. Although her emotions still simmered beneath the surface, she understood the importance of maintaining composure. With determination in her eyes, she followed the others to the gym, eager to see how her team would interact on the court against the others, but also prepared to confront Hinata and Kageyama once they arrived.

...

Inside the gymnasium, (y/n) stood alongside Kuroo, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Karasuno boys. The atmosphere was charged with a mix of curiosity and a newfound sense of competition. All eyes were fixed on the Karasuno team as they entered, their presence sparking a renewed energy among the players.

Kuroo took the opportunity to explain the practice format, capturing everyone's attention. "Once everybody's warmed up, we'll go around the room, with each team playing against each other in one set at a time," he began. "The team that loses the set will have the oh-so-fun penalty of doing diving receives for one full lap around the court."

(Y/n) chimed in, adding her perspective, "It's a challenging penalty, but it's also a great opportunity for practice. So, there's some benefit to it."

The conversation among the Karasuno players shifted to a specific player on the Nekoma team, catching (y/n)'s interest. Sugawara was the first to voice his question. "Hey, when we last played against Nekoma, did they have that guy on their team?"

Following Sugawara's gaze, (y/n) noticed Lev, his intense stare fixed upon her team."Who, the one's who's staring at us?" Asahi questioned.

"Yeah, that's the one." Sugawara confirmed.

"No, I don't think so..." Asahi stated.

(Y/n) nodded in response to Sugawara's question and shared her insight, "That's Lev. He wasn't a regular on their team when we last played them, so he didn't come along. However, now he's a regular, and I'm curious to see how you'll react to him."

A mischievous glint danced in (y/n)'s eyes, not escaping the attention of the Karasuno third-years. Their uneasiness grew slightly as they sensed the underlying challenge that (y/n) had set before them.

Tanaka, ever eager to rise to any challenge, exclaimed with a determined grin, "Bring it on! We'll show them what Karasuno is made of!"

Nishinoya, unable to contain his excitement, added, "Yeah! We'll leave them speechless with our receives!"

Asahi, though a bit more reserved, nodded in agreement, "Let's focus on our game and give it our all. We can handle whatever comes our way."

The conversation shifted to a more serious tone as they discussed their strategies and reviewed their previous encounters with Nekoma. Meanwhile, (y/n) observed their determination and camaraderie, feeling a surge of pride for her friends and teammates.

Kuroo, ever the observant one, caught (y/n)'s gaze and leaned in closer, whispering playfully, "You sure know how to stir up some excitement, Kitten."

A playful smile curved (y/n)'s lips as she replied, "Well, what's the fun in a practice if there's no friendly competition? It'll push both teams to their limits and make for an exciting game."

Kuroo chuckled, appreciating her spirit, and gave her a playful nudge with his elbow. "I couldn't agree more. Let's see how our teams fare against each other."

As the warm-up period came to an end, both teams gathered on opposite sides of the net, tension building in the air.

...

As the practice matches continued, (y/n) watched with a mix of frustration and determination as her team seemed to be continuously outplayed. They were currently facing off against Fukurodani, and the score stood at 16-24 in Fukurodani's favor.

Nishinoya showcased his exceptional receiving skills, sending a powerful spike from Fukurodani back to Sugawara, who swiftly set the ball for Asahi. However, Bokuto had anticipated the attack and rallied his team to block Asahi's spike successfully. Another point lost, another penalty received.

"One more loss for Karasuno," one of the players remarked, sounding slightly disappointed.

"They're not bad, per se," another player added. "They're just... average."

"I wonder which first-years gave Nekoma such a tough time," a third player pondered aloud. "I can't tell."

"Maybe Nekoma was exaggerating," the first player suggested, casting doubt on the previous hype surrounding the Karasuno first-years.

Just then, the gymnasium doors swung open, revealing Saeko, Tanaka's sister.

"Ohh! They're still at it! We made it just in time!" Saeko exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement.

"Nee-san!" Nishinoya called out, surprised to see his sister in attendance.

"Huh?! Nishinoya, is that your sister?" Asahi asked, seeking confirmation.

"Nope! She's Ryu's sister," Nishinoya clarified, gesturing towards Tanaka.

"They do look alike," Sugawara added, observing the similarities between Nishinoya and Saeko.

"Glad you made it in one piece," Tanaka stated, relieved they have arrived on time.

Hinata and Kageyama followed behind Saeko as they entered the gymnasium, drawing attention with their fashionably late entrance.

"Are they seriously doing the whole 'heroes show up late' thing?" Kuroo commented, glancing over at Hinata and Kageyama. "Talk about irritating."

(Y/n) approached the gymnasium door, eager to greet Saeko.

"Saeko-nee-san! It's great to see you again," (y/n) greeted Saeko warmly.

"Oh! (Y/n)-chan, good to see you too!" Saeko exclaimed, pulling (y/n) into a tight, bone-crushing hug that pressed (y/n) against her chest.

Amidst the suffocating embrace, (y/n) managed to free herself and then turned her attention to the late arrivals. She shot a stern look at Hinata and Kageyama, making her expectations clear.

"You two," (y/n) addressed them firmly, her voice tinged with anger. "Come. Now."

Hinata and Kageyama exchanged nervous glances but complied, trailing behind (y/n) as they walked towards the bench area. (Y/n) took her place next to her brother Keishin, and finally focused her attention on the tardy duo.

"I am absolutely furious," (y/n) declared, her tone emphasizing her disappointment. "Luckily for you, the others have already explained your failures. Therefore, I'll let it slide this once. But don't you dare fail your exams again! Now, get warmed up so you can join in."

"Hai!" Hinata and Kageyama responded in unison, a mixture of relief and determination evident in their voices.

With the next practice match against Shinsen about to begin, it was time for the two first-years to prove themselves and earn their place on the court. The anticipation grew as the Karasuno team prepared to face their new opponents, and all eyes turned to Hinata and Kageyama, waiting to see how they would contribute to the team's performance.

...

"No. 10!" The Shinzen captain shouted "Eikichi, block him!"

Hinata's triumphant score reverberated through the gymnasium, marking Karasuno's first set victory with a score of 21-25. The elation of the win washed over the team, relieving them from the burden of yet another penalty.

"Augh! Dammit," the Shinzen captain grumbled in annoyance. "What's with that broken quick move No. 10 uses?"

Hinata and Kageyama basked in their well-deserved moment of pride, savoring the taste of victory. However, their celebration was quickly interrupted by a certain second-year with a knack for blunt honesty.

"Quit trying to look so smug and superior, you two," Tanaka scolded, glaring at Hinata and Kageyama, while Tsukishima couldn't help but snicker at the remark.

"Nine sets in, and we finally get our first win," Daichi commented, a hint of satisfaction in his voice. "And this time, no penalty lap."

"I'm starving!" Nishinoya exclaimed, his hunger taking precedence over any post-match analysis.

With the final practice match concluded, the boys' appetites surged as they longed for a satisfying meal.
