chapter six - sophie
"A baby!?" Sophie exclaimed.
"Shhh," Dex shushed her, pressing a finger to his lips.
"Oh, sorry," Sophie quieted down, but she couldn't help still wondering about the scandal. What kind of baby killed full-grown adults? Some kind of mutant?
"Don't worry, Soph. It happened, like, thirteen years ago. Nothing's happened since then, it's fine," Biana reassured her.
Sophie simply smiled and then they went back upstairs, not willing to risk being caught by Kesler and Juline.
"How long are you going to keep lying to Kesler and Juline?" Sophie asked as the group plopped down on Dex's bed once they got to the second floor.
Kesler and Juline were like a mother and father to Sophie, and she hated lying to them. Though they were only her adoptive aunt and uncle, they had been very close with her since Grady and Edaline, her adoptive parents, died a few years ago because of a fire. Sophie stayed with them for a couple years, until she was ready to go to college and live on her own. Now she was back. Along with Grady and Edaline, Sophie's adoptive sister, Jolie, died as well.
Unfortunately, Sophie's biological parents and sister had died too. That day, Sophie would always remember. And when her adoptive parents passed away, too, it was like living it all over again.
Sophie's friends had luckily been there to help her through it. Especially Dex, seeing as he was living in the same house as her for her last years of Foxfire before going to the Elite Levels, and then college.
But anyways, the four young adults sat on the floor of Dex's room and began to laugh and talk happily. They were all having a good time and enjoying themselves.
After a couple of hours of hanging out, Kesler, Juline, and Rainie went out to Atlantis to pick up a few things. Dex quickly went downstairs by himself and said bye to them, and then came back up.
The group decided to watch a human movie on the TV Dex's family owned, and the group got all comfy on the couch with blankets and pillows to watch. But right before they were about to insert the movie into the DVD player, a loud knock sounded on the shop door.
Sophie startled, and looked at Dex for approval to go downstairs to check it out, who nodded and walked down the stairs with her.
Sophie opened the door timidly- she knew it wasn't Dex's parents or Rainie because they had the key- why would they knock?
And suddenly she was faced with a person, who, little did she know, who change her life forever.
"Hi, I'm Keefe Sencen."
