(3) I Survived

They're all dead. Every single one of them.

Everyone is dead.

Without another thought, I pulled out my phone and dialed the three digit emergency number.

"Hello, nine one one, what's You're emergency?" The voice on the other end was a woman's voice, she spoke in a calm and soothing manner. I tried to mimic her tone. But I failed.

"Hi, I just came back from the washroom, and they're all dead." My voice shook, I held the phone up to my ear as I began to pace around the stadium.

"Who's dead? Can you tell me where you are?" I could hear the click clacking of keys on a keyboard as the woman spoke.

"Everyone in the stadium. They're all dead." I tried to sound calm, but my voice squeaked and squawked as I spoke into the phone. "Some how I'm the only one who survived." I paused, taking in the moment.

"Sir? Are you still there?" She asked, as my pause was quite long.

"Yes. I'm still here." I nodded my head, though she wouldn't be able to see. "I'm at the Rose Stadium."

"Okay, I sent dispatch to your location, but can you please stay on the line with me till they get there."

"I will." I looked around, everything was so peaceful. If my heart wasn't racing like a formula one car race, I would have been as calm as one can be.

"Mind telling me your name sir?" She asked as I walked over to a post.

"Sure." I swallowed and ran my shaky hand against the peeling paint. "My name is Riley Evans," I hesitantly replied, peeling a chunk of paint off of the wall.

"Okay, Riley, my name is Alice. Do you mind telling me how old you are?" She asked, and I thought it was a weird question, but I decided to answer anyways.

"Um, I'm twenty nine, Alice." I turned my back to the post and slid down it to sit into the ground. "Are you trying to flirt with me?" I asked, my mouth running before my mind could process what it said.

"No. I'm just asking the basic questions to keep you on the line." I could hear annoyance in her voice and I could only assume that I offended her.

Quite the ladies man we have here. Heh.

"Who was that?" I gasped out loud and quickly flicked my head from one side to the other side, but I could not see any other living soul.

"Who was what? Is there someone else there with you?" Her voice rang out in my ear, my eyes scanned the area again, but still, I saw no one.

"No, it was no one. I thought I heard someone but I think my mind is just playing tricks on me." I panted lightly, leaning back against the post and slowly closing my eyes.

"You could be going into shock," she suggested. But before she could continue, sirens echoed loudly outside and the sound of pounding feet grew.

"I think they're here, I think the police have arrived." I spoke into the phone, and she directed me to stand and to shout at them so they'd know where I was.

So I put the phone down onto the ground and maneuvered onto my hands and knees. I placed one foot flat on the ground and pushed off of it to get up into a standing position. I could feel that my energy was low, so I wasn't sure how long I would be able to stand upright for, nor how loud I'd be able to yell.

I left the phone on the ground as I began to shout, not wanting to scream into the phone and blast out her ear drum on the other side.

"Hey! I'm over here!" I called out, waving my hands about in the air. "Hey!" I heard my voice crack and I cringed at the sound it made. I sound like a teenager still.

After about what felt like a long time, the police arrived to where I stood. At least I assumed that they were police officers, with their heavy looking, navy blue uniforms. I bent down and picked up my phone again, I lifted it to my ear and told Alice that the officers had arrived. She told me to talk to one of the officers and then ended the call.

"Hi." I waved to the first officer I saw, I turned off my phone and placed it back into my pocket.

"Are you the one who called nine one one?" He asked with a stern look, the officers had split up and were searching the mounds of corpses for any other possible survivors.

"Yes. I am." I replied with a slight tone of sarcasm. I mean, I'm the only survivor, who else would have called the emergency services? A ghost? That's a little far fetched for my liking.

"Uh Huh." I could feel his gaze look me over, a slight tingle scurried down my back as he did. "Did you see what happened?"

I shook my head, "no, I was in the washroom." I was embarrassed to tell him of my black out in there, so I left it out. I mean, it's not a lie, I was in the port-a-potty when the supposed incident occurred.

"Do you have an alibi?"

"No. I was in the washroom, alone. I mean, the person who saw me leave is dead, and if anyone was in the same stall as me, it would be weird and they'd most likely also be alive. So..., uhm. No I do not have an alibi." I rambled a bit, but honestly, I was getting the idea that he thought I had done the deed and just wasn't confessing it.

"You know how this looks right?" He sighed heavily and I bowed my head with a slight nod.

"Yes, but I'm certain I did not do it. I'm a coward. I can't even gather the courage to ask a girl out." I rambled again, nothing that helped my case of course.

"We'll still have to take you to the station so we can ask you some questions. Do you understand." I nodded.

"May I call my boss to let her know?" He nodded and I quickly scurried to a slightly isolated area to pull out my phone again.

"Evans. It better be good if you are calling me when you're supposed to be at the concert." My boss scowled. I gulped, before I relayed the events of what had happened.

"The officers are taking me back to the station to question me, and they are probably going to take my notes too. So, can I postpone my assignment?" I asked, fear in my heart for what she was going to say. I could hear her groan on the other end, and I casually began to shrink. I'm going to be fired now, aren't I?

"Do as they say, I'll come down and speak with their boss later. Just don't do anything stupid. Do you understand, Evans?" She sighed, I could tell she was annoyed with me.

"Yes ma'am." I nodded.

"Good. Now go." She hung up on her end which ended the call. I turned off my phone and placed it back into my pocket.

"Are you ready to go?" The officer walked over to me with handcuffs in his hands. I nodded and he gently brought my arms behind my back and handcuffed me. "This is just procedure." He sighed and then helped me out of the stadium. His partner opened their squat car door and then the officer helped me into the back of the vehicle.

The door was swung shut and then I looked out the window. My mind swirled with thoughts, what was the voice that I heard? Why was I sparred? Am I really innocent? Or am I actually the murder?

I closed my eyes and drifted away as the vehicle began to roll away to my potential doom.
