Chapter 1

"Let's begin, shall we Daniella?"
"Don't call me that."
I stand up straighter, shaking, as I fumble with gun in my hands.
"So, which one of these lovely young men will you shoot, darling?"
I look back and forth between the men for about a minute.
"I'm getting impatient."
"But . . . they look the same," I say.
"Then choosing shouldn't be a problem."
I stare blankly at the two men, well boys, in front of me, contemplating what to do.
"Choose!"
"But I can't."
"Choose or you will die as well!"
I close my eyes and aim at the one on the right. Time seemed to slow down while I shot, the already loud noise emitted the gun becoming deafening.
"Augh!" I hear a voice yell.
"Are you going to save him? Please, I'll do anything!" I desperately ask the man.
But he is gone.
I try to run to the boy I had shot, but for every step I took forward, I seemed to be going 3 steps backward.
I look behind, only to find that I was on a cliff, with nowhere to go. I started running faster, but the darkness below consumed me.

My eyes snap open. I am covered in  cold sweat, shaking. I take a few deep breaths to try to regulate my heart beat. I look around the room, suspicious of the darkness that surrounded me and get up cautiously, rubbing my eyes, trying to fully awaken. Stumbling to the bathroom, I look in the mirror, not exactly sure what I'd see. The sun shines brightly through the small window, washing away the final vestiges of the nightmare. Relieved, I start to brush my teeth, as well as get ready. After I finish, I look at the clock on my bedroom wall, checking the time.
"It's 7:50, I still have 10 minutes before I have to go outside," I think to myself.
I decide to look at my beloved maps, instantly losing myself to them.
"Hey, are you ready to go?" a voice asks, shaking, well scaring me out of my thoughts.
"Yes," I say quickly. "Don't scare me like that again, Ethan."
"Sorry Ella, but this time it wasn't my fault. I knocked on the door for 5 minutes straight," he said.
Giving him a skeptical look, I say, "Sure."
"Well, it may have been closer to 10 seconds, but I still knocked," Ethan said. "It's the thought that counts!"
