Epilogue
---Sage's POV---
I grinned proudly, shaking my head at the exited grin on Laura's face as she stood in line, waiting to get her diploma. My eyes slid towards Davy, that niggling thought of suspicion in the back of my mind. He was showing a grin that made my skin crawl, already anticipating the consequences of his behavior.
A sigh slipped my lips before I heard a few cheers when another kid shook hands with the Dean and proudly held his diploma in the air for his parents to see. It was sad that dad never got to see Laura and Davy's graduation but I know he would've been very proud.
"Something wrong?"
My emotions quickly shifted as Declan brushed a knuckle over my jaw, keeping our hands intertwined before he tugged them closer to his lips and kissed the back of my hand. Ignoring the squeezing of my heart, I sighed and motioned towards Davy.
"My brother's planning something."
Declan followed my gaze, studying my younger sibling for a moment before he winched and rolled his head back with a groan. "Its his graduation so I'm sure he has been planning this quite a while. Judging from the coveted glances being tossed Josh's way, I doubt the man's going to like it."
"Or, knowing Davy, Josh could react the complete opposite." I murmured, keeping my eyes on my mischievous sibling. He was vibrating with excitement, which didn't make him obvious, since most of the other kids were just as ecstatic. But in the way he nibbled on his lip and glanced at his two best friends, I just knew he was planning something.
I glanced around past the rows of proud parents and relatives chattering busily before my eyes landed on Josh close to the stage. He was leaning casually against the wall, an amused smile playing on his lips while his eyes never strayed from Davy's back.
"Well, we'll find out soon." Davy chuckled, nudging me in the side to focus back on the stage. Davy was confidently strutting op the stairs, his two friends following to collect their diplomas.
As soon as they got it, they twirled around to the audience and promptly ripped their graduation robes off of their bodies, making me groan in annoyance while laughter and wolf whistled echoed through the room.
All three boys were dressed in lacy boxers; some kind of see-through shirts were poured over their chest as they flaunted what they got. Davy went even as far as to throw a cheeky wink in Josh's way, blowing a kiss to the stunned man before the trio quickly scurried out of the room.
Josh was stunned, jaw wide open as his eyes were transfixed on Davy's behind as it shimmied out of the hall. As soon as his line of sight was broken, the man shook his head and shoved his way through the crowd, who quickly parted for the man
I held a hand in front of my eyes, feeling my cheeks heat up with mortification before Declan laughed beside me, trying to pry my hand away. "What's seen can't be unseen...ugh, darn it Davy!" I cursed before pulling Declan with me.
As soon as we passed the doors, my eyes squinted against the low sun, trying to spy where Josh and Davy went off to. I only spotted Davy's friends and after questioning them, I just knew we weren't going to see my brother again for the next few days.
"So, where is he?" Declan asked as I plopped in the car and closed the door, waiting for Laura to say goodbye to her friends. A small scoff slipped my lips as I rolled my eyes. "According to Alan there, Davy just managed to come to a halt before Josh tackled him, tossed my brother in his car and drove off like the devil was on his heels."
Davy snorted before he started laughing; the whole car shook and by the time Laura got in the car, my man was gasping for air, rubbing a few tears out of his eyes. My sister blinked, confused before she shot me a worried look.
"Davy?"
"Davy."
She nodded, "I don't wanna know." She said grimly and I nodded in all seriousness. Looked like Davy was going to enjoy his own little graduation party and I didn't wanna hear any detail whatsoever.
Declan swiftly drove us home and during the drive, I started to think about the past few weeks. Our mother had been proven guilty on espionage, second degree murder knowing that her information could and would be used against our dad and was sentenced to a lifetime in jail without any mitigating circumstances.
The Vice president himself had been charged of high treason, attempt-murder of the first degree on the President and his family and the multiple murders of the soldiers who were killed on his command.
It had been a troublesome time to get out of the door, simply because there was so much paparazzi involved. The story had been leaked into the local news, naturally, and the paparazzi had dug for details until one morning, I had opened the curtains of my bedroom to get some fresh air and was blinded by the countless flashlights.
We had been called to court to tell our side of the story, where I had received a small slap on the fingers for attempting and succeeded in gaining unauthorized access in military databases but they let it slide this one time.
The jury had listened, nodded their heads before they proceeded to declare the Vice president and his whole organization guilty of all charges. The undercover agents were placed under a close watch to make sure they hadn't switched and as for all the victims involved, they received a massive compensation for their losses.
The last of the Black Sun's men had been caught and as far as we knew, every single man and woman who helped them was now safely tucked away in jail. What was left of Team Wolfpack and Team Neptune had been dissolved, the soldiers had received the highest honors in serving their country and were now free to enjoy their honorable discharges.
A warm feeling rushed through me as I thought of Samuel , Declan and Josh, who all had agreed to stick around for a while. Well, Josh had mentioned the fact that he had a penthouse, where he'd have Davy move in with him after graduation but it seemed that was inevitable.
Smiling softly, I let out a content sigh, happy for Laura's sake as well. After all this time that we were thinking she was our innocent little sibling, it seemed that she had a boyfriend all along. The guy, Nicolai, had decided to end the little charade of hide and seek and had introduced himself to us, which I had considered very brave.
After getting the third degree and being threatened by three Navy Seals, who had reassured Nicolai that they were able to kill a man in a hundred different ways and could get away with it, Nicolai had impressed us all by saying, "If I ever do hurt her, intentionally or not, then I'll know just the people to come to."
"Love?"
I blinked and blinked again when Declan's face took form in front of me. At my confused smile, he grinned and gave me a soft kiss. "I've been calling your name for a while now. We're back home but if you want to stay in the car..."
"No, I'm coming out." I quickly undid the seatbelt and took a deep breath, my stomach gurgling at the heavy scent of potato chips and stew in the air. Samuel must've been cooking again.
Declan smiled and reached his hand out. My breath caught in my throat as I stared at him, his dark brown hair a bit longer than usual as it swayed in the wind, his caramel eyes shining warmly as he quirked his lip up in a smile.
As I slid my hand in his, his smile softened, fingers curling gently around my own hand and softly caressing my skin before he intertwined them with mine. With a soft tug, I was in reach of his arms and took a deep lungful of his heavenly scent as he tugged me against his chest.
I could almost feel his smile widen as his arms curled around me, chin coming to rest softly on top of my head before he sighed, probably enjoying this little moment with me as much as I did.
"Something wrong?" He murmured, his lips whispering against my ear, which was enough to make me shiver and press closer against Declan. "No, everything's perfect. Just perfect." I replied, feeling that all to familiar flutter in my chest as I leaned back and was met with that breathtaking grin of his. I reached up, tracing the cleft in his chin and grinning at the raspy sensation of his five o'clock shadow. "Enjoying yourself?" He mused, eyes twinkling as I nodded cheekily. "Do you want me to shave?"
I thought about it for a second before shaking my head, "Nah, I kinda like that shadow on you. Just, no beards." I added with a grimace, making him laugh boisterously before he nodded as he lead me inside.
"I'll keep that in mind." He patted my ass playfully, earning himself a scowl before I scurried inside. As I walked down the hallway, I paused and came to a halt at a picture of dad. Richard had given it to us before he left to his house with his blushing spouse and I had been grateful for the picture.
It was one of Ashton with the rest of his Team, camping out in the middle of nowhere. A small fire pit in the center illuminated the three men opposite of where Richard presumably sat, as I only saw Declan smacking Josh's back with a grin, as the man seemed to be choking on something. Ashton was laughing as well, his eyes gleaming mischievously as they caught the camera.
Josh had commented on the picture, snorting that Ashton and Declan had decided to repay one of his pranks and had proceeded to dribble half a bottle of Tabasco in his food. Suffice it to say, Josh had choked as soon as he had swallowed a spoonful and Richard had taken the picture right when he was coughing, trying desperately to alleviate the burning sensation in his mouth.
"Not one of his best moments but amusing at the same time." Declan chuckled behind me and I agreed with a laugh, eyes flitting over my shoulder before glancing back at my father's face.
"I miss him." I confessed, feeling comforted as Declan's arms instantly wrapped around my hips and tugged me closer. "Of course you miss him, it shows that he was a great man and even better father. Nobody would miss him if he was a heartless piece of shit."
That broke the moment of sadness threatening to take over and I laughed, pulling Declan's face down to mine to kiss him happily. Father might be gone but if he hadn't passed away like that, we'd never had Wolfpack coming down here. Davy would've never met Josh.
I would've never met Declan. But we had met, and now we were here, healthy and able to enjoy the rest of our lives together. Maybe one day we would get married, maybe we'd adopt or just remain a couple. But I wasn't going to fret about that.
Because I was going to enjoy every single second I would spend with Declan and live my life like every coming second would be my last. I learned my lesson through this whole ordeal; life is too short to be afraid and worrying about the future.
Declan grinned, pecking my lips one last time before he gave me a heated look as he left for the kitchen. I grinned, flushing brightly as Laura cleared her throat pointedly before she scurried away with me on her heels.
Our Father had died a noble death, defending his country, his believes and his family till the death. He might have killed countless of people but saved even more doing so. Though he wasn't here anymore, my siblings and I have had the best father we could've wished for.
His lessons would follow us for the rest of our lives and I felt elated and relieved to know that we would be what was left of him.
We are the Commander's Legacy.
The book is finished! I know, I'm sad too! When I started this, I merely hoped that I wouldn't insult anyone that is or has been in the army. Just know that you guys have my respect, because I wouldn't be able to defend and kill for my country.
Thank you guys for doing what us civilians can't do.
I might add a few bonus chapters in the future, maybe when it's one of the guys birthday or one of the holidays ;) let me know and I'll see what I'll do.
Thanks for following this book and reading it till the end :) Hope you enoyed it!
