Chapter 7: Lavender
Suffocating, that's what New York was. That's why they had moved away, to give Alex space.
He enjoyed it. He liked the suburbs of the big city. Liked the space needle. Liked the people.
It took him a few days to adjust to his new world. A few weeks to learn English. A few months to lose the accent. He loved Seattle. He loved the people he met. Loved the rainbow streets. Loved the museums. Loved his new family.
So he wouldn't lie anymore. He would tell them. So on Sunday night, after a birthday party Paul had gone to, he sat them down.
"I'm Bi."
Lavender: a flower, purple, smells nice, pretty.
John woke that morning to his cat purring into his side. Sunday. Lazy day. Fun day.
*tap tap*
Or Peggy day.
He rolled over and kicked off the sheets, stretching himself out and welcoming the new day, before going over to his window and opening it.
"Hey Peggy, quit that!" And sure enough, the youngest Schuyler was under his window, grinning madly and holding up a bag of take out from the bakery down the road that was run by Jack and David. It was a New York style bakery, and they called it 'The World Will Dough', and they had New York accents and they were always laughing and joking right along with the customers.
"Forgive me sourpuss?"
John pretended to think about it, before nodding and grabbing his shirt and sweat pants from the top of his dresser. He pulled his clothes on and climbed down to greet Peggy, and the doughnuts she was carrying.
"So, why so early? I mean, thanks for the doughnuts and all, but why are you here at like-"
"John, it's noon."
"Oh."
That was how most of their conversations went anyway. But this time, Peggy had news.
"So, as you know you are going to be auditioning for that musical Galavant is putting on." Peggy wasn't really paying attention to her surroundings, so John had to catch her before she tripped on a tree root. John also interrupted her.
"Pegs. No one will cast me," John was a little annoyed about that too, but he hid it well.
"So as I was saying, you're auditioning for that musical in two weeks, and you need to practice. The gang is getting together to help each other with monologues and songs. And you're coming. Get your butt in the car and let's go."
He knew he had no choice now. Peggy wasn't letting this go. And so he would go with it.
I'm doing NaNoWriMo so updates will be shorter than I'd like for the next month.
