By the Side of the River

Down by the side of the fairy blue river,
where the marigold flowers,
 and the salmon babes lie.

I lay there still,
staring and thinking into the river,
Thou nothing comes or goes,
through my empty mind,

I lay there watching the salmon babes,
fly high into the sky,
cutting vividly through the vast river,

Thoughts of  what I know not of life,
stream across my own river,
how essence can be so desiring,
and cut into pieces of a million,

Deep edges of my river,

thinking how,
the marigold flowers and the salmon babes,

to have them see,
to have them look,

and more than death itself,
how it can be so cruel, so compelling and so desirable,

But, there I lay by the side of the river,
knowing that,
one small change at a time,
makes a big difference,
in this cruel, hefty, black-heart world

And, so I watch how,
the salmon babes and the marigold flowers,
make life seem so irresistibly easy,
while I thought,
the difficulties of life,
in our own
