Chapter-9 Rain and Earth

Clay simply couldn't believe that Glory could die.

She was the dragon that withstood beatings.

The dragon that held her chin up, even after being bullied for not being a Skywing.

The dragon that became queen to rescue her tribe.

The dragon who was always determined and did whatever it took to do the right thing.

She was his sister, his best friend.

And yet, she was hurt severely by what the Rainwing messenger had told them.

He felt sorry for leaving Webs in charge of a bunch of dragonets, but family would always be a first to him.

He was in his own hut, just like everyone else. Except of course for Fatespeaker and Starflight.
Clay usually preferred company, but he understood that everyone needed to be alone in this situation.

He shifted the pile of leaves under him to make the bedding a little more comfortable.

The Mudwing picked up his scroll and started to read it reluctantly, thinking it would be the last thing he ever knew of Glory.

Clay,

I owe you my life for you just being alive. You of all people should know that if you wouldn't have left the cave, I would have been dead long ago. You also saved me from the island with Deathbringer, remember?
Without you, we all wouldn't have completed our "destiny" as Sunny calls it. You are our bigwings, and I hope you still are for our friends.
I may or may not be alive anymore, but I wanted to thank you in way.
At the west edge of the rainforest are five huts hidden in between the trees. I know you're smart and that you will find them easily with that big snout of yours.
After all, you were always the one to find food the fastest.
I'm crying and laughing right now in case you haven't noticed the splashes of tears on the scroll.
Anyway, those five huts are filled bottom to top with preserved fruits and meats. They should taste pretty good even after a couple of decades.
Your stomach is rumbling isn't it?
I know it is, one of the reasons why I love you as a big brother.
I hope you enjoy my gift. Even though it is small compared to what you risked for me.
You risked your life twice Clay, I'll be grateful for that even in my afterlife.
Keep doing what you're doing, and keep our family strong for me.

Love,

Glory

Clay's stomach indeed was rumbling. But that wasn't what mattered to him.

He now knew that Glory left a way for them to know how she truly felt for them. She always had a layer of sarcasm to cover up her emotions.

And yet here they were, literally written on an open scroll.

Clay put it aside, knowing that he would always treasure it with his heart if the worse came to worse.

He laid his head on the leaves that were now damp with tears, and dreamed of every moment he had shared with Glory and his friends.
