Chapter-35 Morning Rainbow
Deathbringer narrowed his eyes as Glory disappeared underneath scales of all different colors.
Laughter and cries of joy filled the royal pavilion as the queen's friends reunited with their sister.
The assassin watched them carefully in case things got out of control. He couldn't let them hurt Glory, even if it was by accident.
He wouldn't loose her again, and surely not now. She was too precious to him. When he was with his mother, he felt half empty. As if a part of him was missing. Deathbringer didn't want to feel that again. Not if he could help it.
"Alright, that's enough hugging for now," he said.
With some force, he gently shoved Clay away from Glory. The MudWing simply didn't want to let go.
The queen gave Deathbringer a pointed look but did nothing else. Instead, she turned to her friends.
Tsunami had a rare smile on her face, and Starflight was hysterical with joy. Clay reluctantly let go of Glory and stood by Sunny's side.
"So," the queen asked, "any news?"
Starflight practically jumped out of his scales as he exclaimed with joy, "I was able to replicate the type of writing you used on the scroll, and now I can write my own stories!"
Tsunami glared at Starflight and pushed him aside. She then addressed the RainWing queen.
"Glory, we know what you're doing. You can't avoid the subject forever, so talk. We leave until night. Which means that we have exactly half a day to listen to you."
Glory looked at her wearily and let out a sigh of defeat. Tsunami was right, she couldn't avoid talking about Deathbringer's death and Darkstalker forever.
Well, at least I tried.
She took a deep breath and told her friends as much as she could. The queen explained how her talon had been injured and who the dragon siding with Darkstalker was. Also known as, Destinyseeker. Glory went into detail of how Darkstalker had taken control of her body and erased both hers and Deathbringer's memories. However, she didn't describe what exactly those memories were.
Glory did her best to explain Destinyseeker's plan to keep Deathbringer for herself by having an egg.
"As it turned out, the egg was never Deathbringer's. Darkstalker used magic and enchanted Destiny so that when Deathbringer got close enough, the egg would start to develop. I guess you could just put as that Deathbringer simply activated the magic."
Her friends gaped in shock at Deathbringer as Glory reached this part of her crazy story.
No matter, she continued to talk about her adventures. Sometimes Deathbringer would help in with some missing details, but it was never more than two sentences.
The ending was the part that mostly got her friends.
"So you're telling us, that Deathbringer, the Deathbringer standing right in front of us, died and came back by RainWing animus magic!" Clay exclaimed.
Glory rolled her eyes.
"No, it was the Deathbringer that lives across the ocean," she answered.
It was a wonder Clay didn't faint. He looked pretty close to reaching his breaking point. The queen noticed this and ordered a RainWing guard to bring some food for him.
Five mangoes and ten bananas later, Clay was as back to normal as he could be. Sunny stayed by his side the whole time trying to comfort him, but a dragon, even a dragon like Sunny, wasn't the same thing as food.
Tsunami walked up to the NightWing assassin and started poking him not too softly.
"Well, he looks pretty alive to me. But that doesn't take my suspicions away," she implied.
"I'm fine," Deathbringer growled. He scooted away from Tsunami and got closer to Glory.
The queen watched as her bodyguard's temper grew. She feared it wouldn't be long before he released it on her friends.
"Umm, Starflight. Why don't you try to explain to the others how that works? We'll need a minute."
As she walked out, Glory made sure to wrap her tail with Starflight's and give it a gentle squeeze. He would understand that she needed him and his brain to give her time to settle things down between her and Deathbringer.
As she expected, her faithful bodyguard walked out right after her.
Glory flew to the roof of the royal pavilion, and with a nod she dismissed the dozen 'secret' RainWing guards camouflaged among the trees. She still didn't understand how Deathbringer thought they would help.
It wasn't until she was sure that every single one was gone that she started to talk. Her voice was in hushed tones as to not let her friends overhear them from below.
"You need to calm down!" Glory hissed.
Deathbringer didn't answer her, he just stood there. Staring at her like a statue.
The queen's scales turned red with impatience and fury.
"Answer me you sloth-butt! The only time you've been yourself was before I told you I had a headache..."
Deathbringer raised an eye ridge. "Myself?" He asked suspiciously.
If it would have been possible, the queen's scales would've turned even more red.
"Yes yourself!" She exclaimed. "You know, the Deathbringer I...the Deathbringer I...fell in love with." She mumbled the last part, but the assassin's keen hearing heard it clearly.
"And who exactly is this, Deathbringer?" He asked half-sarcastically with a smirk on his face.
It's working! Come one Glory, keep talking. Take him out of his stupor.
"Well, Deathbringer was the dragon that was supposed to kill me, but ended up saving me. He betrayed his tribe for me, and he also understands my sarcasm. He's very arrogant too," Glory chuckled as the memories flashed in her head. Her scales changed color to a light purple.
"Deathbringer also stayed by my side the whole time. No matter what happened. And he always smirks when he thinks he's going to get away with stuff. And sometimes he does, but for the most part I take it as a duty to stop him. Not to mention his smug face. Which is my favorite trait if you ask me," she said with a wide grin.
Glory gasped as she suddenly found herself in his arms, her eyes were locked on his and everything around them disappeared.
"Hey Glory?"
The queen's scales were starting to turn pink, but she managed to keep them at the calm purple they were before. She refused to show weakness under his intense gaze.
"Yeah?" She answered.
Deathbringer smirked and replied, "I love you too."
Glory shivered as their snouts me in a loving kiss, and her senses were completely gone. All she felt was love, and it was heaven!
Deathbringer was the only dragon that could make her feel this way. Vulnerable, but strong. At his mercy, but in control. Even when she was sarcastic, he could read her like an open scroll. Long ago, she would have wondered how that was possible, but now she didn't care.
Glory took in the fact that they were soulmates, and that the same thing went for Deathbringer.
When other dragons saw an assassin who would kill without mercy, the queen saw someone with a soft heart. A dragon who would do anything to protect his friends and loved ones, especially her.
Glory deepened the kiss, but before it could turn into something even greater, a maniac laugh rang out near them.
The queen's eyes widened in recognition, and she turned her head to glare at Tsunami.
The princess had tears in her eyes, and next to her were Clay, Sunny, and Starflight.
Sunny was beaming with happiness, and Clay's expression clearly said that he didn't know how to take it in.
Starflight was looking in the wrong direction, his rear end facing the queen and her bodyguard.
"I'm sorry Glory! They wouldn't let me explain anything. Then again, none of you ever listen to anything I have to say!" Starflight said exasperated.
His voice, however, was completely zoned out by Tsunami's laughter.
"Your f-face! Oh my moons! This is unbelievable!" She laughed.
"Permission to torture the SeaWing, your majesty?" Deathbringer asked.
Glory smirked and sat down to enjoy the show.
"Permission granted, my beloved."
