Chapter-33 Fallen Star
Glory kept crying until she had no tears left at all.
Why? We just got the Darkstalker thing over and now this...it's not fair!
His loss was too heavy on her, she wanted to kill herself.
I can't live without him...
The sadness felt like a heavy blanket on her soul, the barriers she had lowered on her heart were starting to come up again.
She hugged Deathbringer closer to her. Glory half expected him to hug her back, but all she felt was a limp body.
No, it's not real. It can't be real!
Glory got up from where she was and shook Deathbringer desperately.
"Come on, wake up. It's not funny anymore, wake up!"
Deathbringer didn't move, his eyes stayed closed and nothing of him responded to her pleading.
"Deathbringer get up! I'm your queen, I command you to get up and live!"
The stream of tears came back and she cried again. The dragons around them left slowly one by one. There was nothing anyone could do now. Vibrance and Vigilant were the last ones to go.
Glory kept shaking Deathbringer but nothing happened.
I'm crazy...he's not coming back. But I need him to be with me.
The queen moved her dead bodyguard's arm and laid down next to him.
She ignored the pain from her talon and the blood all over her. All she wanted was to be next to him as long as possible. It was hard for her to sleep without feeling Deathbringer's even breathing behind her, but soon she did.
***
Glory had forgotten completely about the purple flower she had seen in her vision.
It wasn't until she saw it in her dreams that she finally recognized it.
The Miraculous flower...but Vibrance said it was gone. And anyway, it can't heal Deathbringer. He's....d-dead.
The flower wasn't purple however, it was a luminous white so pristine that her eyes hurt.
The room around her was dark, the flower was the only source of light. Glory was about to walk forward, when a voice stopped her.
"Welcome."
Glory looked around but found no one. It wasn't until she looked behind her that she met the owner of the voice.
"Who, are you?" She asked the dragon looking at her.
The mysterious dragon was a RainWing, and she was huge. She gave off an aura of greatness. Something about her just screamed 'queen'.
The RainWing smiled at her kindly and spoke, "My name is Miracle. I suppose you've heard about me, yes?" Her voice was nice and gentle, very clear too. She had the voice that you would expect from someone's aunt.
Glory gawked at the ancient queen in awe. She felt like a three year old dragonet next to her.
The ancient queen was beautiful and majestic, time having done almost nothing to her. Miracle was the sole definition of an ancient animus. She was something Darkstalker would have never been, even in a million years.
Miracle blinked and circled the present queen while analyzing her. Her eyes gleamed with curiosity and interest.
"You are...quite young to be a queen. And of two tribes, my how things have changed. In my time there was only one tribe, and it was very peaceful. What is your name sweetie?"
Glory followed her gaze and answered, "Glory...Queen Glory of the RainWings and NightWings. But that doesn't matter. The real question is how are you here. No offense. It's great to have you in my head, but I would really like to know how."
Miracle chuckled and answered her question with a smile, "With a little touch of magic," she waved her arms for emphasis, "anything is possible. You didn't think I would leave my RainWings and their ancestors without it did you?"
Glory shrugged and looked at the dark floor underneath her, "To be honest, I didn't know about you until my friend told me your story a couple days ago."
Miracle's face fell. "I thought I had left it in the royal library. I wrote a scroll with all my spells that would work even after my death. And surely our tribe would've told my story to the future generations?"
Glory shook her head and said, "We don't have a royal library. Grandeur told me it had vanished hundreds of years ago. And ever since I came to the rainforest, I haven't heard your name in any conversation."
Miracle sighed. "That is truly depressing. Back in my days, our tribe was full of knowledge about plants and spells. I suppose now we are considered next to nothing?"
Her question was answered by Glory's nod. "Most RainWings now only eat and sleep, they keep sloths for pets and have sun time almost every hour. I'm working to change that, but I don't know if I can be queen anymore. Not without him..."
The ancient animus queen walked forward and hugged Glory. And surprisingly, she didn't mind.
"You really cared for your friend didn't you?"
A tear slipped past Glory's hardness inside her. "He wasn't just a friend. Deathbringer was..." she thought about it only for a second, "he was my soulmate."
Miracle's face softened and she let go of Glory. "Well, that's why I'm here. One of the spells I left in my scroll had something to help. I believe it was worded like this 'When a good hearted RainWing is in dire need of magic, Miracle of the RainWings will be there to assist.'
Miracle gave Glory a smile and handed her the Miraculous flower. The flower wouldn't be in her talons when she woke up, but it was a symbol that Miracle would guide her through.
However, Glory didn't smile back, nor did she take the flower. She just hung her head in mourning.
Her voice was low when she spoke, "I'm very thankful for your help Miracle, but there is nothing you can do. There is nothing anyone can do. Animus magic can't bring Deathbringer back, it's the only thing it can't do."
Glory looked up as Miracle seemed to be glowing with light.
"But sweetie," she said "animus magic will only be like a helping talon. The main ingredient in this little recipe will be love. The string of fate that ties you together is what will make him come back to you."
Hope grew in Glory's heart and soul. "Could Deathbringer really be back alive with just the flower and love?"
Miracle looked sideways and said, "Well...not necessarily. A sacrifice must be made. After all, magic always requires a price."
"You mean I have to kill another dragon? Great! That's awesome," she said sarcastically.
The ancient queen chuckled, "No, of course not. A sacrifice doesn't always necessarily mean a death. This time, all it's asking for is something out of you. Perhaps a certain characteristic or a quality that makes up your personality. Even an ability would count. No matter what it is though, it has to be something valuable."
Glory frowned and her scales turned an annoying purple. She paced around and thought.
I can't give away my personality! But I don't want to let go of my RainWing venom either. But Deathbringer needs me. What about?...
"Will the magic Darkstalker left behind work?"
Miracle practically jumped up and down with excitement. "That will definitely be more than enough. Magic for magic. What a wonderful idea dear! Now if you please," she said while stretching out her talon.
Glory's face frowned in confusion. "How do I give it to you though?"
"Easy enough. Just imagine the magic coming out of you. Easy peasy," Miracle said.
The present RainWing queen focused and put her mind to work. She imagined a dark shape coming out of her, and when she did, Glory instantly felt lighter. As if the small powers Darkstalker left behind had been like a weigh pulling her down.
"My! This is really dark magic. No matter, it will still work. Good riddance too! If you had left it on you it would have destroyed your soul little by little."
Glory lightly gasped when she opened her eyes and found Miracle holding the magic in her talons. It was pure darkness. It disappeared the moment Miracle closed her eyes.
"There, everything is set. Now you just need to wake up and find the flower. Won't be too hard, I'll guide you to it. Now, when I say three, I need you to do your best and wake up alright?"
The queen nodded and closed her eyes once more.
"One...two...three."
***
Glory slowly opened her eyes and stiffened when she felt something cold touching her back. She relaxed when she realized it was just Deathbringer's body. But a layer of hope covered her sadness.
The queen carefully got up and looked up. She was surprised that the noon sun had turned into two full moons.
A shimmer of light appeared in front of her, and its voice was heard in her head.
'Come on Glory, he'll be fine. We have to go find the flower.'
"Are you Miracle?" Glory asked the light.
'Of course I am! Now let's go, it's not far, so it won't take us long to reach it.'
Miracle led Glory over the rainforest trees and into the night. The cool breeze cleared the queen's head. She also hadn't flown in the night for quite a while now. It was nice and comforting, Miracle provided enough light for Glory to see far and wide.
"Wait, won't other dragons see us though?"
'Nope, I'm pretty good with illusions actually. Dragons right now would simply see nothing. I left a reflection of you back with your friend. Just in case.'
That settled the conversation, and they kept flying for about three minutes before the light Glory was following dove down into the trees and to the rainforest floor.
It was a part of the rainforest Glory seemed to recognize, yet it was still very strange.
"Where are we?"
'I believe you've seen this place before. Before the trial, you came down here with Deathbringer and socialized quite a bit.'
Glory's scales turned pink as she remembered their time together. It gave her even more willpower to find the Miraculous flower.
'The flower is further up north. We just have to follow the creek. Let's go.'
So there the RainWing queen went, just behind Miracle in her light form.
The leaves underneath her feet crunched, and without her knowing it, she picked up speed.
'Wait up Glory! I'm not as young as I used to be. One of the reasons I picked the pure form instead of an animal. Hey, I said wait!'
Glory turned around, and her scales turned a dark pink from embarrassment.
"Sorry Miracle, it's just that I can't wait any longer."
'No worries. Anyway, here we are.'
In front of Glory, long vines that grew from the highest branches to the rainforest floor covered the entrance to a small cave. As the queen moved them and walked ahead, the cave turned out to be a tunnel leading into a large clearing. And in the center, a white flower glowed beautifully.
"It's so..." Glory was at loss for words.
'Magical. One of my greatest enchantments. This flower was made to heal anything, and now that we know, it can even bring a dragon back from the dead with enough love.'
'Go ahead, take it, and we shall head back with this Deathbringer that you care much for.'
Glory reached forward and slowly plucked the Miraculous flower from the stem.
'Very clever, if we leave enough of it, it could grow back and continue to exist. Let's hurry, the flower doesn't live forever either.'
As if understanding what she said, the flower was starting to fade its glowing light.
Both queens quickly headed back to the sun time platforms to do what they had to to do. Glory always being at least ten yards ahead of Miracle.
The platforms soon came into sight, and the scene was just as they had left it. The blood had dried and an awful smell was starting to appear.
Glory ignored it and almost crashed into where she had left Deathbringer's body.
Come on you better work...
"What do I do now? Am I supposed put it on him or something?" She asked the ball of light in front of her. Her voice was frantic and desperate.
'You must speak the words of truth. Every word has to come from your heart. Tell him everything you feel for him. It's the only way.'
The queen stared at the ball of light and back at the flower, whose light was starting to fade faster.
I'll do anything for him...
Glory looked directly at Deathbringer's pale face and took a deep breath to calm her heartbeat.
"Deathbringer...I have a lot of things to tell you. I don't know if you're actually listening or not...either way. I really need to get this off me. You know how I feel about talking out loud my feelings. It just feels awkward to me you know? But right now that doesn't matter to me anymore. I love you a lot Deathbringer. I have all I need when I have you and I, but right now I don't have you. When I first met you, gosh it was weird!" She sadly chuckled at the memory.
"I had no idea what was going on. You were completely messing with my head. I didn't know what I was feeling, love isn't something you usually find when you're trying to stop a war. Anyway, there was something that wanted me to be as close to you as possible. That something was my heart Deathbringer. But my mind was telling me that it would never work, that I would just end up heartbroken.
"And guess what? I went with my heart, and look at where it got us. I'm sorry for what happened today, but I'm not sorry for what happened in between. You're the only dragon I want by my side until I leave this world. Sure you can be annoying sometimes, but you do it in a cute way. When you smile, I want to smile with you. It sounds cliche, I know. So this is the first and last time I do something like this.
"I suppose what I'm trying to get through is...that I need you to come back with me, Deathbringer. I'm nothing without you. You're the only dragon that has ever been able to tame me. I just. Need you Deathbringer. By my side. For always."
Glory gasped for breath and then shock as the Miraculous flower sailed high into the air and bursted in the sky. A falcon made completely out of light screeched and came diving towards them with its wings tucked in.
It hit Deathbringer straight in the heart with a splash and slowly spread throughout his body.
•••
Deathbringer have his mother one last goodbye. He knew what was coming. And he was more than ready for it.
He had watched and listened every little detail. And he couldn't wait to rub it in Glory's face when he got back.
With a smirk he thought, 'She's so not going to have it. But it's going to be so much fun...'
When the hawk touched his body down on earth, he literally fell back down to Pyrrhia.
•••
Glory watched in amazement as Deathbringer's body exploded with a yellow light and then calmed down to his normal scale color.
She saw that all his injuries had been healed, and not a single scar remained.
Behind her, Miracle used her own magic and healed Glory as well without her noticing.
'My job here is done. I hope the path ahead of you goes well and that you live a long life. My good wishes go to Deathbringer too. Goodbye my dear, we'll meet again someday when the time is right.'
Glory gave the animus queen a smile and said, "Thank you Miracle. For everything you've done for us."
'It was my pleasure, Glory.'
In the blink of an eye, Miracle's light was gone and now all that was left was Glory and Deathbringer.
The queen waited patiently beside her bodyguard. The suspense was killing her. She wanted him to wake up so she could see his eyes again. A reassurance that the magic had worked.
His dark grey eyes opened slowly, and soon his smug smile was plastered all over his face.
"I heard everything. And by the way, I'm glad to know I could drive you crazy in the middle of a war."
Seriously?!
Glory frowned, "Hey, you know what? I'm taking that damn spell back."
She turned around to leave, but Deathbringer grabbed her tail firmly.
"Hey!"
A seductive grin flashed dangerously in his face.
"You're not going anywhere without a kiss first. Or maybe even more, I don't mind. I did just come back from the dead, remember?"
Shit. He's not going to let me go this time. Well, two can play that game...
