Chapter-21 The Path to Darkness
Deathbringer never went back to Destiny's hut. Not since the day he had seen Glory fly in the rain. It had broken his heart seeing her so happy after his declaration. He had thought she liked him too.
But he finally knew, and nothing was going to stop him from saving her now.
If all this chaos had started when he had made the mistake of not fulfilling his job as bodyguard, he was determined to fix it.
Glory had said Darkstalker had been inside her this whole time, which meant he was manipulating her as well.
And no one messed with him or Glory... no one.
Deathbringer was in the weaponry room he had secretly made a while back ago. He had told Glory about it, and to his surprise she had approved. She had said that it was important to remain on guard after the battle.
But only Deathbringer knew of the location, and he meant to keep it that way.
The room was hidden in the treetops as an ordinary RainWing hut, but inside was a stock of weapons so big that Deathbringer couldn't believe he had actually done this on his own.
The NightWing was examining the walls of the room.
On the left wall was row after row of sharp and deathly assasin stars. The smallest ones were in the top, and it slowly increased to the bottom by size.
No, no. I don't want to hurt Glory more than I have to.
The right wall had several darts of different colors. Five dart shooters in a horizontal row at the bottom. The first darts at the top were white, and it meant their purpose was to kill the target.
Deathbringer shook his head, even if worse came to worse, he still didn't want to kill Glory.
She was his soulmate, how in the world was he ever going to fight her if he couldn't even bear the thought of being away from her anymore?
The second row had purple darts, and those were supposed to poison the enemy. It was only a small amount of poison to make them ill, not to kill. But he didn't want to make Glory sick either.
The third row had red darts, and that's what Deathbringer grabbed. The original darts the RainWings used on 'visitors'.
Sleep darts, perfect.
The other rows didn't matter now, hypnotizing and hallucinations weren't his objective.
He put as many of the red darts in his pouch, and grabbed a dart shooter once he was sure he had grabbed as many as he could.
Now it was time to grab the real deal. The weapons from the center wall.
Spears of different lengths covered half of the wall, while blades sharper than IceWing spikes adorned the other half.
Deathbringer was only interested on two choices.
A tiny blade barely the size of his claw, which he had named Razor, and another blade that was slightly smaller than your average knife.
The professional assasin went for his favorite weapon. Deathbringer grabbed Razor and did his best to fit it in the pouch around his neck.
He headed out of the hut and used big pieces of wood to block the entrance.
All he could do now was wait until the worst moment of his life arrived...
***
Glory had tried to fight as long as she could, but she lost. And Darkstalker won, but she held on to hope.
Hope that Deathbringer would save her from this mess.
The two moons were near their highest point in the night sky. The stars twinkled like blinking eyes anticipating the drama of life.
Darkstalker had used her voice and had told Vibrance and Vigilant to go to their homes.
Glory hated feeling defenseless.
She felt as if she was just a game piece to be used in a cruel game of the world.
Tears threatened to fall, but she held them back with as much force as she could muster.
The moons kept rising and rising while her mind kept chanting and chanting.
Don't move, stay there. Don't move. Don't go higher. Don't let it turn into midnight...
This was another moment she wished she could have been an animus.
The moons rose against her prayers, and alas, the voice she dreaded spoke.
'The time has come for me to finally take back what was stolen from me.'
The queen let out a last, strangled, and desperate cry of help before her wings spread without her permission and she flew to the night sky.
The fate of a queen, innocent dragonet, and the world now rested on an assasin's talons.
