Chapter-14 Night Colors

A/N: 'when these are on it means they are Darkstalker's thoughts.'

Glory's vision in her head had disappeared a long time ago.

She was now alone, her body didn't hurt and she was in peaceful silence...until she started hearing noises.

The first one sounded like fighting dragons, one roar sounded exactly like Tsunami's.

That's when she had started to arouse from her dark but very appreciated slumber.

Glory thought the first noises had been memories that were playing in her head for some reason.

But then she heard voices a while later.

It sounded like someone had said that another dragon had tried to kill her.

And that voice was Tsunami's. Her voice sounded weary and blunt.

They must have been caring for me this whole time...

I need to talk to them to explain, but what will I tell them?

They won't believe me if I told them that Darkstalker is back.

'Make up a lie. Tell them someone came in and attacked you.'

Darkstalker's thoughts sounded as if he were in a big and deep cave. Like an echo.

But why? Why can't I tell them the truth?

'Because if they believe you, they won't let you near the hatchery at all. And our plan will be ruined.'

Oh please. Anyways I told you I will think it over, I never said I would do it.

At once, anger started to boil inside her without reason.

Why am I mad? I have nothing to be mad about!

'When I am mad, you are mad. I'm inside you now. Remember?'

Oh, right.

'Please, just think about it.'

All anger had already faded, from both of them. His voice was now... pleading.

She didn't answer him.

She had to focus in waking up now.

It took a lot of strength and will power. Her eyelids fluttered open slowly, and as soon as she was in full wake, she felt everything at once.

Her throat was severely parched. Her stomach hurt more than her stinging talon, due to the fact that she hadn't eaten in days.

The stupid stone bowl she was in made her uncomfortable, and all her muscles ached.

"W-wa-ter," She croaked with difficulty.

Her vision was blurry, but she knew without doubt that all her friends were there by their exclamations.

"She's awake! Quick go get the healer!"
That was unmistakably Sunny's voice.

"Glory? How do you feel?" Tsunami's concerned voice made her want to laugh.

"How do you think I feel? I'm better than ever of course," Glory responded weakly but sarcastically.

The effort made her cough roughly.

How she regretted waking up!

Tsunami only breathed a sigh of relief and walked closer to her.

Clay could only manage to squeal like a one year old dragonet and run over to her. He carefully put his wings around her as best as he could.

"Nice to see you too bigwings," she said and gave him a small smile.

"Don't you ever do that to us again!" Starflight said. His voice was a bit muffled because he was crying.

"Starflight, don't get too sentimental. It's not the first time I've been hurt," she whispered.

However, inside she felt bad for hurting them. She'd never do it physically (with maybe the exception of Tsunami). But she still hurt them in a way.

I need to be more careful next time. A whole lot of trouble could have been avoided if only...Deathbringer would have followed me.

Deathbringer!

"Wh-Where i-is D-D-Deathb-"

Glory got cut off by Tsunami, who was giving her a questionable look.

"Aren't you happy to see is? Why do you need him?"

Of course Glory was happy to see her friends! But her bodyguard must have been worried too right? She had somehow felt his presence when she woke up, but now that she was seeing more clearly, he was nowhere to be found.

She only grunted in response to Tsunami's question.

"Maybe he went to go get the healer," Sunny said carefully.

The others only nodded.

A moment later Starflight spoke up.

"Also, Glory. Thank you," Starflight commented.

"For what?" She croaked.

What was he talking about?

"For letting me read again!"

His tears were long gone and were replaced with happy squeals.

"Letting you re-Oh. Don't tell me you read the scrolls!"

Her surprise let her forget the pain for a second and she almost tipped the bowl over. Her scales were starting to turn a faint green.

"Who gave them to you," Glory asked. She didn't even bother to contain the anger in her voice. Those scrolls were meant to be read when she died. Not when she was only a little hurt!

'My, who knew Rainwings had such interesting lives.'

Watch your mouth you Nightwing. You know I can change my mind! Glory growled inside her head.

Darkstalker chuckled and disappeared from her head temporarily.

"Um, Deathbringer gave them to us. He said you left them behind for all of us to read," Clay said shyly.

"That snot-headed-sloth butt-scavenger-brain-lizard!"

"Don't worry Glory, I didn't read your scroll. Because unlike some dragons" she coughed in between for emphasis "I knew you were going to live."

Glory's scales turned a rosy color, of course Sunny would be the only one to have faith in her.

"Thank you Sunny."

Fatespeaker left to go get a bucket of water and came back a moment later.

Glory lapped at it gently as best as she could. Thanks to her long neck, she was  able to reach from the bowl. Once she felt that she could drink no more, she stopped and stared at her friends.

Tsunami was starting to dose off in a corner of the hut.
Clay was looking around for food.
Starflight and Fatespeaker were in another corner sitting together with their tails entwined. Probably relieved that things were okay.
And Sunny was just staring up at the sky.

"What's wrong Sunny?" Glory's voice was more clear now that she had satisfied her thirst.

Sunny blushed and sighed dreamily.

"Meerkat..."she said only a little above a whisper.

Glory raised an eyebrow and told her, "I'm just going to guess that it's your first crush. So, I'm not going to ask for any more details."

If this Meerkat returns her feelings, then everyone except me will have found a partner. Clay and Peril. Tsunami and Riptide. Starflight and Fatespeaker.

'And even more perfect for me.'

Why would it be perfect for you?

'Because if they have dragonets, the animus or my blood will go on.'

Right, I forgot since she is Stonemover's daughter, she has animus blood.

A long time passed when a member from her royal council arrived, Shadowclaw.

"My queen" he said and bowed low "I think it's time to get you out of there, don't you agree?"

"I agree wholeheartedly," she replied.

With the help of her friends and Shadowclaw, they lifted Glory out of the now dry stone bowl. They placed the queen on a structure that had thick wooden sticks and was covered with camel fur.

She sighed with pleasure and comfort. Finally her muscles didn't ache, all she needed now was to move around.

But the good things didn't last long...

Her talon flared with new immense pain. She screamed so loud that everyone had to cover their ears.

It was starting to swell rapidly, the feeling of it being burn intensified as if she had just touched that cursed crown.

A Rainwing came crashing through the entrance holding a pile of something that was an intense white.

Jambu.

His scales weren't pink at all, they were a bright neon green. Which meant fear.

He ran over to where they were and shoved the pile of ice and snow to Shadowclaw's claws.

"Make it stop! Just make it stop!"

Shadowclaw nodded stiffly and wrapped the bundle around Glory's left talon.

She instantly felt better. It stung for a little bit of course, but it only backed up the fact that it was working.

Glory sighed with relief and relaxed on the thing we scavengers call bed.

"It has been a long day for her, we should give her some time alone to settle," Shadowclaw told the queen's guests.

They agreed and left the hut. It would be the last time she ever saw them before the rainforest would be back to normal.

Glory was now alone. Her heart was still pumping furiously, the adrenaline of what had just happened ran through her veins.

As she almost drifted off to sleep, she heard talons landing outside of the hut.

A Nightwing head popped in and carefully looked inside.

He was the dragon Glory most needed in these kinds of times.

Deathbringer.

He had a basket of fruit in his claws, although she couldn't quite tell what it was.

"Glory?"

She just stayed there, staring at him as if he was an angel visiting her from above.

He seemed to realize that he wasn't dreaming, and started to run towards her impossibly fast.

She closed her eyes and braced herself for the impact, but it never came.

Glory carefully opened one eye, expecting to feel Deathbringer's body against hers in a collision.

Instead, she saw him standing right over her, his tall and muscular frame right in her line of sight.

The Rainwing queen was about to say something, when she felt cool smooth scales envelop her in a hug.

"Don't leave me again, please. You know I'm nothing without you," Deathbringer said.

Her heart melted at his words.

And unfortunately for her, she was too weak to control her scales. They started to turn pink at the edge of her wings, but she didn't care now. All that mattered to her now was that he was here.

While Deathbringer was around, she would be safe from anything.

She returned his hug as best as she could, seeing that her muscles were sore.

"I missed you too smug grin," she said and laughed.

He brought his wings back to his sides and took a step back.

Her bodyguard took a deep breath and started, "I'm sorry I left you behind. I'm wasn't angry, it's just that I feel something but I can't tell you. You did nothing wrong it was me not you. I'm a terrible bodyguard so please just fire me now."

He hung his head in shame and looked at her with pitiful eyes, although they had a small twinkle to them.

Glory tilted her head a bit to the side. The Nightwing had said that so fast it took her some time to process it. When she finally grasped it, she chuckled.

"Don't worry, the only thing that's important now is that I'm fine. It wasn't your fault either. I'm responsible too for doing what I did."

"What did you do?" He asked cautiously.

Her former light pink color turned a light purple shade.

"N-nothing important! I'll tell you later. Now, what do you have in the basket?"

Although Glory didn't realize it, Deathbringer faked to believe her.

Destinyseeker was definitely going to have to fight again sooner or later...

He seemed to be caught off guard, and guiltily raised the basket he had set down on the floor to hug Glory earlier.

"I thought my queen would be hungry, so I brought you these."

As soon as she caught sight of the fruit he was holding, Glory's scales turned a bright cheerful yellow with swirls of pink on them.

They were her favorite fruit in the entire rainforest, the fruit she could eat for the rest of her days.

Guavas!

She tried to reach for one, but her muscles protested and she pulled her talon back.

"Ow," she murmured.

Deathbringer raised an eyeridge and put on his "heroic" face when an idea came to his mind.

"I don't like the look of that smug face you're giving me Deathbringer," Glory scolded.

"For the one hundred millionth time Glory! This is my heroic face!"

"It's not your heroic face because there is literally nothing to be heroic about," she snapped back.

He faked a sad face with dragonet eyes and said, "Fine, if you don't want me here I'll just go."

He turned around and started to walk towards the entrance, when he was expectedly stopped by Glory.

"Wait!" She called out.

"Yes?" He replied innocently.

"Aren't you going to let me eat? Please? I think I'm starting to feel dizzy."

Even though he knew she was playing with him, he hurriedly walked back to where she was eating and grabbed a guava from his basket.

He held it near her mouth and said, "Here comes the flying dragon! Open up little Glory! Leave him somewhere to land!"

Glory frowned, keeping her mouth as closed as she could and asked, "That, was your idea? Feed me like a newly hatched dragonet!?"

"Of course not! I'm feeding you like a one year old dragonet."

She rolled her eyes but opened her mouth. Deathbringer gently popped a guava inside avoiding her fangs and she chewed carefully.

Her tastebuds exploded and she opened her mouth again.

Oh, I missed you so much my guavas!

The process repeated until Deathbringer ran out of them.

"Thank you, you're a really great friend Deathbringer. To be honest, I don't know what I'd do without you either."

The Nightwing's heart shattered a little at her words, she had called him a great friend.

"See, you need me too!" He said without hint of what he felt inside.

She smiled and closed her eyes, it had been a long day and she was tired.

She was trying to go to sleep, but her mind kept coming back to her previous words.

A great friend...

Was he really?

Every time she saw him she felt safe and hopeful. She got butterflies in her stomach and her heart sometimes beat a little faster.

I don't even know what I feel any more.

At sometime, Deathbringer had climbed on the bed to sleep with her seeing it was wide enough.

She realized too late that he was tired too, and that Nightwings by nature slept during the day.

Glory grumbled something about personal space but she didn't protest any further than that.

Contrary to his queen's objection, he scooted closer to her and put a wing around her.

She surprisingly accepted the contact and she kept telling herself in her mind that it was because she was tired.

But her heart kept telling her something different...
