Chapter 6; Scarred
Drake's POV.
I struggled to get the wheels on the bin moving, but once it started moving it was much easier. This bin had probably been sitting-- unmoving-- for months, which caused the wheels to dry up and get covered in hard dirt. But once the bin got moving, making all the dirt come off and coating the dry wheels in the water that lay on the ground in small amounts, the wheels began to move easier with less effort. Though the task was much harder with crazy fans in front, behind and next to the bin.
I pushed the bin, using my back legs to push, with my shoulder against the bin as I did. After a minute of struggling to push the bin along, pushing over cats as I did so, it began to slide downhill.
"Yes!" I exclaimed in relief. The bin rolled down the road for a few metres, before flipping and landing on its side. I chased after the bin, the other cats had ran off, trying to escape since the first cat got hit. I reached the bin as Clawess held the tipped over bin lid open for Arc.
"Wow, they're actually gone!" Clawess exclaimed in surprised excitement.
"Not for long I'd say, we best get out of here and find somewhere to stay for the night." I said, my tone a bit more serious now. Clawess nodded sadly and we began to walk off.
😾
We lay in an abandoned house as the last rays of light set behind the horizon. The house had been abandoned a couple of years back, but it was going to be knocked down in a weeks time. The house was pretty empty so me, Arc and Clawess rested on the old carpet on the floor. Nobody had spoke since we entered the house, but now Clawess broke the casual silence.
"Thanks for saving me back there Drake, that was really nice of you." She said softly and I shrugged. "It's not like I done it for you, I was trying to escape and I thought I'd let you tag along." I replied coldly.
I wasn't sure if that was true or not. Clawess looked at the floor sadly.
"I know you must be really mad at me, but I am really sorry for insisting you'd tell me things that won't any of my business." She said sadly, and I sighed. Maybe I did overreact back there.. I thought.
"Okay, I kind of overreacted I admit, but I have had bad experiences with humans and I didn't want to talk about it." I said and Clawess looked up at me with sorry eyes.
I looked down at my paws as I gathered my thoughts, then spoke, surprising Clawess a little as she didn't expect to hear me speak.
"I had this friend, his name was Sharpy. He and I grew up together, he was like my big brother. We lived only a few metres south east of this town. One day we began to spot poachers. The same two were coming and hunting some deer's that lived nearby. They'd cut off their horns and leave the rest of the deer behind. Me and Sharpy thought it'd be wise to move further away from the town, once we found out the two hunters were setting up a camp not far from where we'd normally stay. So we moved about half a day away, but when I woke up the next morning, Sharpy was gone. I went back to where the two hunters were camped, and I saw they had left. Nothing remained but the body of my brother, hanging lifeless from a tree. That day I swore I would try and separate all cats from humans, because if they continued killing and capturing and owning cats, we would soon loose our reputations, lives and homes, and that is something that we'd struggle to get back." I said. I was looking at my paws the whole time I spoke, Clawess and Arc watching me sadly, but curiously.
"What happened to the humans?" Clawess asked carefully. I looked up at her then spoke. "I found out which one killed Sharpy. He lived in this town, Rockhill Town. I killed his friend in his sleep, then hung his body from the tree in his backyard. I spared my brothers murderer, just so he could suffer the same pain he caused me." I said, remembering the scene clearly, me cutting his friends throat with my claw, Me watching in satisfaction from his roof as my brothers killer grieved over his friend. After hours of grieving, he burnt all his hunting equipment and moved out.
Clawess was surprised by my answer, but she didn't say anything. The rest of the night I spent thinking and dreaming about my brother and his killer, Adden, until the sun rose and we all began to awake to the new mornings light.
Clawess's POV.
I awoke while the sun was still rising. I watched Arc and Drake wake up a few minutes later. I shuffled around to get more comfortable.
Drake groaned as he stood up, itching behind his ear with his back paw.
"Hey." I said and Drake looked at me.
"Aye" he replied half heartedly, then turned around and walked towards the door.
"Wait Drake!" I said quickly, jumping onto my paws and running towards him.
"Where are you going?" I asked and Drake shrugged. "Does it matter?"
I sighed. "Drake, you aren't still going to separate cats from humans are you? You know it's wrong!" I said, my voice rising in pitch. Drake sighed. "What else am I going to do? Huh? I don't have any other job, I don't have a home, if I quit there will be nothing left for me!" Drake said, and I looked at my paws. "Well, me and Arc don't have homes either..." I started, already knowing the answer to the question I was going to ask would be a no.
"Maybe we could live together?"
