Day 5

I was completely perplexed by the disappearances of the past three days. I just didn't get it. First, Mrs. Doyle, the nicest old lady ever, now these two other people from the same community. Our community. Could they be connected? I wasn't sure, but I could see that there was something odd going on here.

I saw Georgie that day at lunch and immediately came over so we could talk and maybe work something out.

"Hey," I greeted her. "How's it going?"

She replied, "I heard about the two new people who are missing."

"Yeah," I replied. "There's something going on here that we need to figure out."

"You're definitely right about that," Georgie agreed.

Suddenly, an idea occurred to me.
"Meet me at the library after school," I said. "We have some research to do."

When Georgie walked into the library after school, I was already sitting at a computer. In the meantime, I had figured out the names of the two people who had disappeared that morning.

The first was a woman with sleek black hair and deep, dark eyes: Skylar Dominique. The second was a young man with the same hair, but light blue irises that were ringed with a navy blue circle along the outside rim. His name was Noah Friar.

I had decided that they might be somehow linked to Mrs. Doyle's disappearance. Now Georgie and I just had to find out why.

That night, my family and I were once again sitting at the table, watching television with the news on. This time, the story was about a car crash on Whatever Street and Something Avenue. But suddenly, the "Developing Story" was interrupted by a missing persons report.

This new one was of a man, not so young this time, but with the same ice blue eyes of the previous man.

This time my mother gasped.
"That's Mr. Greene! He started the Greene Landscaping Company! That's the truck that comes by on Tuesdays after you get home, Luna, to mow the lawn. With your father and I both working, I don't know how we can get it done."

"I might be able to mow the lawn when I get home," I offered.

"Are you sure, sweetie? You might have a lot on your plate, with school and all."

"I can do it, mom."

She replied, "That's great! At least that problem is solved."

But we still have one big problem that I don't think will be solved anytime soon, I thought.
