The White Madness (8/10) - r
Meanwhile, Dr. Zachary Finitevus was outside standing on a cliff far from the old laboratory. He was watching the place, eating pickled plums. His face was bored as he realized he had done one big mistake. "Ah, this spectacle would be more spectacular if I didn't put encapsulating seal around the whole place."
In other words, whatever was inside couldn't escape, and the flames would after a time burned out on their own. That way he made sure to destroy any evidence, and if this place would ever get discovered, only an empty shell would remain. Correction, if it would get discovered once more. He wasn't doubting it wouldn't happen. He was sure this was just a lucky shot for the trio.
"Hmm, I guess they turned to ash by this time." He tilted his head, slowly munching his plum. "Drat, I forgot about that demon. This way I won't get any delivery from him." He searched for another piece in a small bag he was holding when he stopped.
"A demon?" Just now he realized it wasn't a normal person. "How was it...? How they were able...?" More questions entered his mind, but at the same moment the ground shook, and a burst of flames rose into the sky. "What!" he shouted, jerking his body.
He squinted his eyes, trying to see what caused it. Among the smoke clouds and blazing red, he noticed some blue spot. He opened his free palm, and from dark vortex above it jumped out binoculars. With it, he got a clearer image of what was happening. The blue ball landed on the ground, tens of meter from the fire.
"That pesky person?" Dr. Finitevus again shouted, recognizing Silver. "But how?" His twisted smile started to twitch. "Did he pierce through my seal? What is his power? How did he do that? I want to dissect him!"
He was watching as Silver put Amy down, and rushed toward the fire that was escaping from the hole. He was completely focusing on the psychic as he saw him to pick dirt to shut the flames off. It took Silver long minutes, but he prevented the natural fire, then he returned to the duo.
"What is she doing?" Zachary Finitevus asked himself. The girl was showing him her back so he couldn't see, but it seemed she was trying to heal that demon. He was watching them for a bit longer before he put his binoculars back into the vortex.
"This is..." he giggled, "very promising." His smile turned into a twisted grin. "I have found it. My perfect specimen." He kept chuckling for a while.
During that time, behind him formed a big, dark vortex. It seemed it was showing some person as there were two shining eyes of a shadowy figure. "Dr. Finitevus, do you read me?" it spoke with a sinister voice.
"Welcome to Hell's lab, we gut living people while-you-wait and create perfect monster soldiers in three days. How can I serve you?" he answered without looking back.
"Really funny," answered the voice in a bored manner. It seemed this wasn't the first time he had to listen to Finitevus' strange babbling. "I want the report."
"Har, har," he turned back. "Turned the whole village into low-grade demon hybrids, just dozen of them was shoving any consciousnesses," he was counting it on his fingers, "some exploded, which reminds me I need a new batch of disinfection, and I just bombed the lab." In the end, he shrugged his shoulders. "My average day, I guess."
"You destroyed your laboratory again?" The other voice angrily shouted. "Do you think they grow on trees?"
Finitevus slightly lifted his eyebrow. "Is that a question?"
A loud huff came from the other side of communication vortex.
"The path to true success is paved by failures." He grinned, saying it like he wanted to cheer up the person in front of himself. "And what more, I have found my perfect specimen."
"Really?" The other person sounded skeptical, and judging by the movement of his head, he rolled his eyes.
"Yes! He has extraordinary powers!" Finitevus excitedly said either ignoring or not noticing the reaction. "He is absolutely perfect! Astonishing!" The albino echidna started to shake like some crazy fangirl.
The other person slightly bowed his head, asking, "Who is it?"
Dr. Zachary Finitevus stopped moving, widely smiling. "He is..." He froze and winked. He pivoted on the heel, gesturing for the other to wait a bit. He again called his binoculars, finding the group to by flying away. "... silver furred," he continued, and the other person sighed, listening to him, "weird quills, blue aura, and most importantly," he made a dramatic pause. "He is totally sexy!!" he squealed. "I wanna play with his body so badly!"
The last sentence started really awkward silence from the receiver's side. "Alright," the voice sighed after a bit, "I shall send my agent to inspect him." The voice darkened as he continued, "Don't you dare to make this go to waste."
Finitevus looked back, grinning. "You can count on me."
For obvious reasons, the other person wasn't feeling the same confidence, but he didn't comment it as the vortex shut itself.
Meanwhile, Silver was dragging his teammates to the nearest hospital or healer of The Order. Amy was doing her best to keep Eclipse from dying as his condition was still critical. Silver's amber eyes were focusing forward, and he constantly gnawed on his lip.
He used too much power on getting them out. When they reached the arena, it was obvious escaping through the original way was impossible. They could only head upward, so he grabbed them, enclosed them in his swirling psionic energy he compressed to give it an extra edge, and burrowed into the stone.
If it was just that, he might not be so tired as now. However, they slammed into some protective barrier. In order to break it, he had to push even harder, and this burst of energy left him mostly drained. Since the flames were hot on their tails, he couldn't allow himself to rest. Thankfully, there was only one layer. If there was more of them, they might not get out alive.
Once they were outside, he put both far from the escaping flames, and he did his best to extinguish them. Fortunately, no flame reached the greenery, so it didn't spread any further. Ironically, that might have been the easy part as Eclipse's life was still in danger.
Silver bared his teeth, speeding up a bit. It was true he didn't care if Eclipse would die or not. However, he was a perfectionist, and there was no way he would let somebody in his team die without his approval.
He spared a glance on his teammates. Amy's eyes were dropping as she put almost all of her power into the demon's body. The psychic couldn't clearly see Eclipse's face, but he guessed he was more or less a bit better. However, he was still far from being fine. Finally, after long minutes they reached the first checkpoint.
Silver landed and demanded the doctors from a small hospital to provide them the best healing seals they had. With them, they could recover some of Eclipse's inner energy that was constantly escaping him. The doctors were puzzled what could cause such critical condition, but Silver didn't let them examine him much less to see him. Eclipse was in his unsealed form, and that would cause too many annoying questions.
Once Silver called the headquarter, they continued, landing only on the places The Order prepared for them on their way. That meant each landing consisted of emergency healing, Silver stuffing his face with food balls to regain his strength and departure to a new destination. This way they made about ten stops in less than twenty-four hours before they reached the final destination.
Somewhere during that time, Amy fell asleep, and he didn't bother to wake her up. At The Order, they were awaited by the best experts who took Eclipse to their hands, and they were part of a small group knowing who Eclipse was. Silver could also take a breather as he never before had to fly for so long at already weakened state. His body was sore, throbbing, and screaming for a hot bath.
Unfortunately, once he would hit the hot bath, he would fall asleep, so he instead munched on a few food balls and headed straight to the bed. He only managed to throw away his tattered jacked before the slumber visited him.
It was a long time since Silver had a dream, and this one was full of the albino's face. He had no idea who he was, and that was bugging him. He was sure he had read all the most important books in the archives. So how could this guy elude him?
