The Colorful Night (3/15) - r

Far away from the place where Silver and his team were ambushed, Dr. Finitevus was dancing in his secret laboratory. The tests tubes around him were empty, with others showing recent signs of being used.

His researched yielded more failures, but he didn't care. He shook his booty in quick rhythm only he could hear. His head was jerking here and there with a wide smile plastered on his face like it was there all the time.

His coat swung from one side to another, constantly getting caught against a rough surface, corners, or other sharp objects. At one moment Dr. Finitevus succeeded in ripping it, but not even an explosion next him would bring him out of his ecstasy.

In his gloved hands, he held a report he got from his spy. He knew it to the smallest details. He remembered where every fiber of the paper was. He tasted the ink on it numerous times. He smelled it and silently sang,

"Pee... Pee... Peerfect... Fact... fact... peelfect."

He repeated this simple and nonsensical melody for long minutes, heading to his personal room. He pushed the door open and entered an entirely new world. His laboratory was always dimly lit, full of shadows and gloom. However, his room was well lit, full of whiteness and walls were covered by pictures of Silver.

"Hello, my darling! How have you been?" he asked in a sweet voice, his eyes dazzling. He jumped, danced, crawled, or climbed to every picture on the walls and ceiling to deliver a peck on Silver's lips.

"I wanna meet you so much!" he squealed like a crazy girl, landing from the ceiling on his bed.

A long pillow was tossed into the air, revealing it was a life-sized hug pillow with Silver on it. Dr. Zachary Finitevus hugged it with all his limbs, nuzzling with it.

"You are my dream!" he warbled, deep kissing the pillow.

He threw the pillow in the air and rolled off the bed. His coat wavered behind him like wings.

"You are my treasure!" His voice couldn't contain all of his excitement, so his body had to burn the extra energy.

He snapped his fingers, and crazily fast music filled the room. The music notes were bouncing off walls, pummeling the mad scientist. The albino echidna pulled rumba balls from his coat and shook with them in the rhythm of the music.

His hips were swaying on all sides, his dreadlocks followed him at every step, helplessly dragged on the wild ride. The music was accompanied by changing beams of light that turned the scientist partly invisible for short moments. A dozen of lights crossed the room from all corners and back, but Dr. Finitevus didn't seem to be tired at all.

Finally, after long minutes, he tossed the rumba balls away and threw himself at the bed. He grabbed the huge pillow where Silver had his neck. A sinister smirk appeared on the doctor's face, and a long scalpel appeared in his free hand.

"Such a beautiful person must be wonderful from inside too," he whispered to his hug-pillow, gently cutting through the front cover with the crazy lights swirling around the room.

"Oh, what do we have here?" he exclaimed, his face deformed by a twisted smile. He reached inside of the pillow and slowly took out a red object.

"What a lovely heart!" He gasped with tears appearing in corners of his eyes. It was completely made of plush, but the shape was an exact replica. He squeezed it a bit, and the inner gears simulated a real heartbeat. The doctor was hypnotizing by that motion for a few seconds before he threw it behind like it no longer could satisfy him.

"Show me more!" He dragged out lungs he carefully nibbled and sucked, before he blew into them, expanding them like a balloon. He then let it fly around the room, watching all the crazy turn and twists it done in the air like a small child seeing a plane for the first time.

He juggled with kidneys, spleen, and liver, giggling like a kid; a very inane kid. The next on his sick games was a yo-yo made out of the brain with the spinal cord. In the end, he swung with it above his head until the brain torn off. With his toy broken, he tossed the cord on the ground, moving to his next victim.

The stomach was stretched, and endlessly bit until Finitevus got too tired and wiped the sweat off his face before using it as a handkerchief and tossing it away.

His golden eyes widened upon spotting the next plaything. He grabbed it and pulled and pulled until the whole intestine was all over his body. He tossed it in the air, made knots on it, tied it around his body, and he would do more if his eyes didn't spot a figure standing in his doorway.

"Can't you see, I'm in the middle of a personal moment?" Dr. Zachary Finitevus asked irritated, and with a snap of his fingers, he stopped the psychedelic lights and loud music.

"I wish I didn't." Came a reply from a crystalline hedgehog.

His form was strange from the first glance. His dark fur shone, changing from dark purple to black shades. His quills were pointing upwards with split tips covered by crystals.

The new hedgehog absentmindedly scratched in his quills with a clawed hand, crystals around its wrist. If the crystals weren't enough of supernatural indicator, this hedgehog was hovering in the air. His feet were stubby, overgrown with crystals in anchor shape as well, enveloped by constantly wavering purple clouds of mist.

His dangerous lime green eyes with red sclera would be perfect if they weren't ajar, reflecting utter confusion with his eccentric colleague. The hedgehog's eyes couldn't help but scan the bizarre room.

Some pictures were cut, glued together, molested, crumbled, licked, and very rarely free of any proof of touching. Among them, he recognized text symbols of, let's say, very old as time urge toward the opposite gender.

A loud sigh sounded in his mind, before he spoke in a deep voice, "So, I suppose this is finally the specimen that will satisfy your research."

The mad scientist jumped down with plush intestines hanging around him.

"Yes, he is perfect in every aspect. His power is strange and strong. I really wonder what his lineage is."

Dr. Finitevus headed back to his laboratory. Next to the empty tubes, he spotted his gray hedgehog assistant with a big mustache defying gravity who was cleaning them of the leftovers from the explosions.

"I'm sure we will meet again, but this time... I shall be prepared to make him mine." The doctor started to silently giggled, but he couldn't contain his excitement, and he soon tilted his head backward, laughing like a maniac.

The crystalline hedgehog didn't share his enthusiasm. However, to say he wasn't interested in Silver was an understatement. For far too long he had to listen to complains from Zachary how the specimen were of poor quality, he started to look for special traits in each mortal he ordered to fetch.

"Just make sure to capture him alive. Once he is ours, he will be a great addition to our plan."

Finitevus grinned. "Don't worry. I'll obtain him soon or sooner."

Silver had no idea he was now a target of the mad scientist he had met about a year ago. Right now his full attention was focused on black creatures attacking them.

He guessed there were about two dozens really weak pudding-shaped ones crawling on the floor. They had one big eye in the center and seemed to have a mouth at bottom of their bodies. Thankfully, they were really slow, and their bodies provided minimal resistance to their hits.

"Don't even think about it!" shouted Amy, turning small pudding creature into a pancake.

The young psychic immobilized two hugest figures with red heads and spikes on their backs. Eclipse cut their tendons and quickly retreated to give them a free place to fall.

"These are tougher than the last ones I fought!" shouted Silver, sensing they were putting quite a fight against his power.

The agent was now seriously glad Gold wasn't with him. This fight would be harder with her around. His amber eyes glanced at Amy as she was taking care of the small one-eyed creatures. Eclipse assisted her since letting them increase in numbers would result in ugly development.

Silver silently growled. How couldn't Eclipse smell them or hear them? They jumped at them from the roof like they were expecting them.

'Did somebody leak our mission here?' he pondered as he applied his power on the ankle of the big guy.

He quickly spun it, twisting the feet in an unnatural angle. The beast didn't utter a word, it only landed on its knees. The psychic watched as it tried to get back on its legs, showing signs of fast healing ability. No wonder the cut tendons didn't immobilize them. Silver roared, created his all the time favorite lances and turned them into pincushions.

The small demon smashed his tenth victim. He hated the gooey stuff they were leaving behind. It reminded him the villagers from a year ago. His claws dug into one, and he needed to push a bit harder, to pierce through.

'I hate them!' he snapped in his mind.

They were weird. Too weird for his taste. Everything about them was unnatural. Their eyes were unfocused if they had any irises since the big guys had just yellow sclera. Their movements were highly organized despite they made no sounds. How were they coordinating themselves? Was somebody controlling them?

Eclipse inhaled, trying to find any smell that would alert him of anybody's presence. It was pointless, there was just garbage, his teammates, night air, and the smell of those black creatures. The last group was puzzling him. He was so sure he smelled just one, yet there was so many of them.

His tail slashed the blob-ball, sending it against the wall where it splashed all over it.

Every demon had its own distinguished odor, but not those creeps. They smelled like one. But they couldn't be just one, there was many of them.

Eclipse shook his head, concentrating on the fight. His yellow eyes glimpsed a moving shadow, and his body moved on its own.

"Ecli--!" Amy didn't finish her sentence, as he covered her, taking a slash of a long tail in his shoulder.

The small demon hissed as he was sure that tip was coated with some kind of poison since his wound immediately burned.

"Dang it!" Silver cursed, throwing five lances at the red flying creature.

It flapped its wings, getting away.

"Eclipse, go after it!" the psychic ordered him. "We will take care of the rest!" With a quick glance, he found all small creatures were dead, hopefully.

Eclipse released his seal on his body, freeing his demonic form. He jumped at the wall, climbed it in a matter of seconds, and pursued the flying Black Arms.

Amy leaped toward Silver. "Any clue how to beat them?"

"I'm working on it!" he barked back angry at himself he couldn't take neither of his enemies down. "But there is no way they don't have any weak spot in their armor," he growled.

The lass swung her spiked ball on a thin chain, hitting one right between the eyes. It might not be a lethal hit, but it was enough to give Silver an opening to pierce its body once more. The result was the same. The lances got sucked inside of the body.

"Does it have some absorbing ability?" Amy asked the obvious question.

Silver couldn't help himself not to roll his eyes a bit, but to be blunt, he asked that same question too; just in his mind.

"It may absorb energy, but not physical blows," he grumbled and picked a rope. "Let's see how much oxygen you need to live." A sinister spark appeared in his eyes. Silver's soul once more was filled with crimson flames that slowly engulfed his light-blue ones,

"What a hard nut to crack," muttered Amy, not paying that change attention.

Silver's ears twitched. "Please, don't start with puns, I would like to keep this as a serious job," he grinned.

"I'm not that nuts," she replied with a small smirk.

This felt like a nice start for perfect cooperation. 'The cake is the culprit, the cake, Silver,' the psychic reminded to his brain. 'Don't let it sweet you.'

The agent sent the rope forward, wrapped it around the big left creature's neck, and pulled. The creature grabbed the rope, but since it was protected by Silver's psychic powers, it wasn't so easily ripped down.

"Dang!" Silver muttered once more.

All of his psychic powers ended up gradually absorbed. He needed to find a different approach to combat them. Silver grabbed Amy and took them both into the air. They first needed a plan.

"Are they constantly evolving?" The lass asked him, but he could only wish to have a definite answer.

Meanwhile, Eclipse was still chasing the flyer. It was a bit faster than him, but he refused to lose it off his sigh. They were gradually getting above a more lively part of the Las Casino City. There was a big chance this creature would dive right into the crowd and panic was the last thing he needed.

The demon's trained eyes spotted a long iron pipe he was sure nobody would miss, so he tore it away. He used it as a spear, figuring throwing it might be easy. Silver was doing it all the time with such ease. The moment the pseudo-spear left his hand, he knew he was wrong. Throwing was easy, but hitting the target was the tricky part. Eclipse felt really stupid.

He held his breath as the dull weapon flew in a good direction until it pierced its wing.

"Perfect!" Eclipse tightened his fist, and quick flap of his wings brought him toward the falling creature. He pinned it to the roof of some loud night club. Its neon label was flickering, needing a repair year ago, but nobody cared.

Its poisonous tail slashed him between the wings. The small demon shrieked, loosening his grip. The red flyer's wings raised the dust, blinding the young demon as it escaped his grasp. The creature didn't intend to flee, it turned away and its long antenna-ears tangled around Eclipse.

The young demon grabbed them, squinting his right eye as the other was still full of dust. He wanted to pull it back, but before he could do so, his body was hit with electricity. Eclipse yelled, his body pierced by an endless stream of small daggers. He shook, trembling with a pain he never experienced.

The torture lasted for short seconds, but it felt like an eternity. Eclipse's body collapsed on the roof, unable to move. His eyes were wide open, but not perceiving the outer world. The antennas were pulled back. The strange bird slowly stepped closer. Eclipse was at its mercy.
