Chapter 28
A/N: Hey guys, I was wondering if you guys could help me get more exposure to this book? Ive been trying, but you guys are the real helpers. But I'm absolutely elated that 6,000 people are reading my book, I'm honoured. Thank you guys so much! Let me go to work so I can get the sequel out! Well vote and comment.
Laylas POV
I ran my fingers through my hair as I watched everyone dismember. Kathy fell to the ground slowly. Her mouth opened widely, as she let out her loud sobs. Jermaine, and joseph quickly assure her that everything was going to be alright.
I sat on Janet's bed and reckoned Michael to come sit by me. "Michael, we have to figure this out." I told him shakily.
He got up slowly, and slouched on the bed with me. I looked to the Jackson family and began to talk solemnly. "Hey you guys?" I asked through their sobs.
They all turned their attention to me. "What is it layla?" Latoya asked, wiping off her runny mascara.
I put a stray hair behind my ear as the family awaited my answer. "We need clues, who is out for her?" I asked them.
They shook their heads. "No one, everyone likes Janet." Ms Kathy told me.
I nodded in assurance. "No crazy ex? Or crazy fans?"
Randy shook his head. "No."
I pondered of people who might be out to get her. Or, someone who's out to get me.
I instantly thought of the encounter that I had with Gordy a few days ago.
Gordy had a surprised look on his face as Bill escorted him out of here. As Gordy was exiting, he glared at me, evilly. "You will pay Layla, trust me."
The memory instantly replayed in my mind. I could feel the anger boiling in me as I became more and more upset.
I got off the bed and looked at Michael. "Get up."
His big eyes look up at me slowly. "Why?"
I glared at him, letting him know that this is no time for games.
I got up and searched the bed. I guess my rustling was loud because everyone was staring at me.
All I knew is, I could've potentially put Michaels family in danger, and he's going to hate me for it.
I used my shoes to move the broken pieces of glass on the floor. Nothing. I looked on her dented dressers, and ran my fingers across them. I smelled my fingers, but there was no gun powder.
I finnaly lifted up her pillow and saw a note. A clue!
"Read it Layla." Jermaine told me, comforting his sisters. I read the note aloud slowly.
"Didn't think that we could find you? Well, whoops, we did. Since you and Michael killed a large chunk of our squads, we will terminate your family. Janet will be killed tomorrow. But don't worry, we will send the video tape. We can make an exchange, I'll take you and Nancy, and we will spare Janet's life. Meet us at the 4578 Cold reserve of the coast of Oceanside. Don't try anything, or Janet will be killed. See you, or not!
- Gordy"
Kathy immediately started to cry, and Joe somewhat comforted her. Michaels other siblings were helping each other get threw this tragic day.
And to think, this was supposed to be a pleasant day.
I shook my head frantically in disbelief. Michael comforted me, as I rubbed my temples getting a headache. "How did Gordy know? Was he there? I bet this is a set up." I rambled.
Michael rocked me back and fourth. "It's okay." He soothed.
I got up and screamed. "No, this is not okay! I'm going to get your family hurt, I only have a little bit of time before Janet dies tomorrow." I cried.
Michaels eyes bulged at my tone so he yelled back. "My sister is NOT going to die layla, we are going to go to that fucking reserve, and get her back. We did some ruthless things. I'm not afraid to kill for my family!" He cried.
At this point everyone was looking at us wondering what we were talking about.
I sat back down on the bed and sighed in frustration. I nodded in understanding. "Okay Mike, we have to train them then, cause me, my mom, and you aren't enough. I'm not going to put their lives on the line, I will make sure they are protected, I'll even fly in some help, we have to hurry." I clapped.
My mom stepped near me and asked. "You're going to call him?"
I nodded. "Yes, we have to do this."
Michael over heard and handed me his phone.
I dialed the number and waited for a reply.
"What is she doing?" Jakie asked, sniffling.
Michael shook his head. "Don't worry. Laylas going to fix everything."
Finnaly the other call came through.
"Hello?" He said.
I smiled at the sound of his voice. "Jambo sana, habari gani?"
He laughed. "Layla? Wow, I'm doing fine how are you?"
I shook my head. "No I'm not good. Dads old gang is after me, and I need help." I told him, pacing back and fourth.
He smacked his teeth. "Ah, again? Mbaya sana. Okay, when do you need me to fly in?"
I smiled at the sight of his loyalty. "Right now, it's code blue."
He smacked his lips again. "Dang, a hostage Layla? Wow, you have to explain everything to me okay?"
I laughed slightly. "Okay, I will thank you." I jumped.
He laughed. "That's what big brothers are for! I love you Layla."
I smiled. "Nakupenda Pia Joey."
I hung up the phone and looked at everyone.
They all had confused stares, but Joseph was quite livid. "You got my family into danger, you're no good and lousy. I swear I can just." He ranted.
My mom and Michael raised their brows. "You could just what?" They said in unison.
Joseph let Kathy go and stepped up to me, grabbing my arms forcefully, everyone near me gasped. I put my hand up letting Michael know that I'm good.
"Let go of me joseph. If you want your daughter, we have to be a team." I explained.
He shook me. "Team? How are you going to bring your bullshit into my household and talk about a team?" He spat.
"Well," I retorted. "I don't see any shit anywhere. But I know my foot is going to be in your ass if you don't let me go." I smiled.
Before joseph could respond, Ms Katherine got up. "Enough!" She yelled. "This is not Laylas fault. Those people who have hate in their hearts is the reason why we are in trouble, not layla. And time is ticking. Like Michael said, I will fight for my family. I need to get my baby back." She broke down. She looked over to Joseph and stared deeply into his soul. "So Joseph stop it!" She bellowed, making everyone flinch.
Joseph let go of me, and sat back down with Ms. Katie.
Marlon Clapped his hands. "Now that we know how bad ass you really are, what's the plan?" He asked, breaking the silence.
I smiled slightly at his humor. "I just got off the phone with my big brother Joey. We have a force comming in about 3 hours. In that time, I need to train you because we will have to go in combat to save Janet. I'll reach you the basics, and how to shoot a gun, quick kills etcetera." I explained quickly to everyone.
Randy got up cheering. "Yes some action."
Marlon got up as well. "Okay, well we need to hurry." He looked over to his family. "We have to save dunk. Are you in?" He asked his other two brothers and 2 sisters.
They all nodded and got up. Ms Katherine got up as well. "I'm going to get my baby." She smiled.
The last person who had to get up was joseph.
Michael pushed his way through all of us to confront his dad. "Joseph, I know you're pissed right now, but if you ever want to see dunks face, you have to be in. You're waisting my time honestly." He rolled his eyes.
I could see a shimmer of sadness in his eyes as Michael spoke the truth. Since he had no fight left in him to argue, he got up. "Let's go get her." He sighed.
Also all of us sighed in relief and we headed towards the door. Instantly everyone asked questions.
Randy held his hand up. "Will we get shot?"
Latoya nodded. "Valid question."
I shook my head, opening the door for everyone. "You will be shot at, but I will make sure none of you get hurt."
I looked in the sky as night quickly started to settle in. The rustling of the leaves, and the wind tickling my ears didn't ease the guilt that bubbled in the pit of my stomach. I looked frantically for the recreational vehicle that my brother got for me.
With a little more searching, I found it parked right outside of the Havenhurst gates. Still being precautionary I looked up for snipers or silent weapons the threat could be using to kill us. To my succession, there wasn't any.
Latoya, Rebbie, Jermaine, Jackie, and Tito followed closely behind me. My mother was right besides me, and Michael was with his parents.
I opened the gate, and ushered everyone into the vehicle, before any other threats can arrive.
I sat in the front with the driver, as everyone else, including Michael were in the back.
Once all the doors were closed, I sighed heavily putting my face in my hands. I went to war with these people not to long ago. War is tiring.
My mother's voice broke me from my horrid thoughts. "Layla baby? You okay?" She rubbed my arm, leaning from her seat.
I shook my head. "No mama, I'm not. I'm a danger to Michael and his family. Honestly I think we would be better if we were apart. I'm tired of causing him pain." I whispered the last part.
She shook her head, disagreeing with my decision. "You love that boy, it'll hurt more when you leave him, then anything else." She whispered back, kissing my cheek.
She put her arm on my shoulder, as I stared into the afternoon skies. Bursts of orange decorated the skies, and blue quickly shadowed behind it.
With my destination feeling loser, I had a great fight between good and evil in my head. I'm going to train these Jackson's, bug am I really going to put them on the line?
I guess thats something for me and Michael to decide.
The tired quickly swerved down this open road, leaving fresh skid marks behind me. Trees aligned the sides of the road giving it a ghastly feeling. I could see the dark clouds slowly fortifying and enhancing the previous vivid clouds.
Also, I could hear the Jackson's chatting things, rude things.
Maybe they will gain some respect for me after what I do today.
The driver slammed heavily on the breaks making everyone jolt forwards in their seats.
"Asanti" I thank the driver, putting out my hand to shake.
He gladly shook it. "You're welcome."
I got out of the van, slowly but surely, making sure that this place wasn't a set up because well, I've been having alot of those.
I opened the door on the van, and ushered everyone out again. "C'mon guys." I smiled, waving my hands.
Randy got out first, and linked arms with me. "Let's do this, sister." He smiled, having trust in me.
Latoya and Rebbie got out as well. Then Jermaine, Jackie, Marlon, Tito, Katherine, Joseph, and all the rest emptied the van.
I looked over to randy who was still linking arms with me. I looked back at Michael to ensure him, its alright. He nodded at me and smiled, having instilled trust in me.
I tapped his shoulders. "Hey Rand, I really have to protect you guys right now, and show you how to use a gun so could you just?" I pointed to my arm smiling.
He nodded his head in understanding. "Yeah sure, sorry." He smiled.
"It's okay." I ensured.
My mother made it through the crowd of chattering Jacksons. She stood by me, as we walked closer to the training halls. I only had about 2 1/2 hours left to train them, and get my other force.
I grazed my finger tips across the glass doors trying to find a handle, but they opened on there own. Loud sounds from the machinery filled our ears, making us all wonder. Steam seeped through the crevasses of the door. It didn't quite have an odor though.
Finnaly, these magical doors opened for us.
Katherine and her children walked in as I held the door open.
However, Jackie stopped, before he came in. "I hope you right about all this." He half smiled.
I nodded and smiled in assurance that he will be alright.
Joseph followed closely behind him, giving me a death glare. Finnaly the sisters, then Michael me and my mother walked in. The doors closed manually, so this wasn't a problem. I looked around carefully trying to find each room. The first task that I had to teach these people how to do is how to shoot a gun.
Ms. Katherine started look around in wonder. I was just as amazed, I've never been here before. But I do know for a fact that my brother wouldn't send me nowhere dangerous. I walked down each hallway, but one in particular caught my eye. I read the labeling that was just outside the door.
Training Closet.
I did a slight happy dance. "Yes!" I smiled.
Rebbie had a confused look on her face. "What is it Layla?"
I turned around to face her. "I found the training closet, finally!" I smiled.
Michael came up to me, and kissed my cheek. "Good job baby." He smiled at me.
All of his siblings groaned in disgust. "Ew mike, get a room." His brother Jermaine teased.
Joseph smacked his lips and glared at me in disgust, so I smiled back. Katherine, and my mother didn't seem to mind me and Michael's affection if anything, they were proud of it.
Michael stuck his tongue out at his many siblings, as he held the door open for everyone to get in. I walked in first, examining the room of any threats. To my great avail, there was nothing. The room was vacant with the exception of some assault riffles, machine guns, snipers, silencers, pistols, glocks, clips, and more. The most extreme weapon I saw was a RPG grenade launcher, and a fire blaster.
There were ear muffs, with gel and paper targets. Also, there were body's where you can practice your physical combos. There was an array of violent training tools.
Randy breathed in harshly, placing his fist on his mouth. "This is sick!" He complimented looking around.
Latoya looked up and around as well. "Yes, this is nice." She snickered.
Ms. Katherine spoke up, hushing everyone. "So, what do we need to learn first?" She clapped her hands, eager to learn the arts of self defense.
Their were an array of chairs to my left, that everyone slowly filled up. I stood up as if I was a professor, with the company of my mom and Michael; since they are the most experience of the bunch.
I rubbed my hands together, collecting warmth, since the cold air chilled my arms. "We are going to learn physical stances, combos, and death hits first. You won't always m,have a gun to protect you. Afterwards, I'm going to teach you how to escape being tied, captured, or put in a choke hold. Then, the best part, you will be taught how to shoot an array of guns. We have to hurry, we have about 2 hours." I explained quickly, being cautious of my time.
Michael stepped up, taking over. "Alright family, we will have 3 stations, and we will rotate every 40 minutes, and by that time you will know all three skills. Also, the army will be here. This is just defense." I watched him, as he told his family the plan.
Tito raised his hand. "We going to combat to find Janet right?" He asked, raising his brows.
I nodded. "If you want to, it depends how good each of you are. We are going to come together at the end." I motioned to Michael, and my mother. "We will all tell each other how you preformed in each stations, and if you know the material. If you know most of it, feel free to come. You will be suited in armor as well." I answered thoroughly.
Tito nodded at me, placing his arms on the sides.
My mom finally took over. "I'll be in control of the escape route, Michael will be in charge of the self defense, and fighting team, and Layla will be in charge of the guns and weaponry." She told everyone softly.
Michael walked over to the little Apple shaped timers and set it for 40 minutes each. Once he winded it all the way, he told us to begin.
I shouted. "I got Latoya, Tito, and Randy!" I smiled.
My mom started to prep ropes for escapes. "I got Mr. And ms. Jackson, and Ms. Rebbie." My mother informed us.
Michael smiled. "Okay, I got Marlon, Jermaine, and Jackie."
Marlon smacked his teeth. "It's obvious, we the last ones mike. Do better." He laughed.
Michael's POV
I put up the large boxing punchers, or whatever they are called to show my brothers how to defend themselves. Also, I have a life sized human, so I will show them how to do the most deadly blows. At least that's what I learned by experience.
Marlon clapped. "So bro, what you gunna teach us?"
Jermaine sighed. "Things we already know I bet."
Jackie rolled his eyes. "I bet."
I sighed in annoyance. "No, watch my lead."I tapped on this synthetic human. "The most dangerous blows are to the temples, the bridge of the nose, and the neck." I punched the neck of the dummy as hard as I could. The head of it sprung backwards letting me know my blow was hard enough. "If you hit it hard enough, you can break their trachea, or, rupture and dis align there spinal cord, killing them instantly. Or paralyzing. But that's where neck snapping comes in. The punch is usually enough. "I informed them.
Jackie and maroon had their mouths open. "Damn Michael, what did Layla teach you?" He laughed.
I smiled at the mention of her name. "She taught me how to survive, and not to chicken out of stuff." I explained to them.
Jermaine scoffed. "You better not cheat on her." He laughed.
I picked up my punching paddles and rubbed them together. "Why would I?" I raised my brows playfully. "Marlon, you're up, start punching."
He stepped up to me, forming his arms in a low position, the exact way you're not supposed to.
I shook my head. "No, put your arms up to protect your neck, and face, and make a squatting stance to get more leverage and grip." I explained. I squatted slightly, showing him what I was talking about.
He rolled his eyes and got in a stance. He put his arms out, and extended them just enough to land a hard blow. I began to juxe and weave his punches. I even threw a couple. Of course, he dodged most of them. I'm roughing him up.
Sweat started to bead on both of our heads as hard work over came us. Marlon put his hands on his knees and started to breathe hard, as did I. However, it was Jermaine's turn. "You up jermaine." I clapped my paddles.
Nancy's POV
Ms. Katherine, and Mr. Joseph were watching as Rebbie tied me up exactly the way I taught her.
I sat on the ground as their were tight knots on my ankles and arms.
Ms. Kathy raised her hand. I nodded, assuring her that it was okay to ask questions. "You okay dear?"
I nodded again. "Yeah I'm okay. Now, to get out of this, you could use your nails to until the knots. But you will get wrist bands that holds knives, and one in your shoes. Wear long sleeves so they go undetected." I pulled my knife from the band on my wrists. I began to cut the extremely thick ropes, finally getting my arms free. "You have to catch the ropes before they fall, you want to be as discreet as possible making little noise."I tried to explain as thoroughly as possible. I untied my feet, and got free of the ropes.
I looked around at the 3 Jacksons before me. "So, who wants to try?" I smiled, holding up the ropes, and secret knifes.
Layla's POV
I wiped the sweat off my face, as I taught everyone the skills and ways of getting out of a 3 types of choke holds.
I clapped at Tito, Latoya, and Randy's quick progress. "Good job guys!" I put my hand up so they can high five me.
"Thanks." Latoya flipped her hair, high fiving me.
I looked at the large array of gun before me, but I thought we would start with the basics. I took out a basic Magnum gun, and handed each of them one. I gave them some of the hostess that were on another rack. Then, right before us, there were gel body targets, and paper outlined bodies.
I tapped Latoya's shoulder. "You up, make sure that you get a headshot." I told her as she put her muffs on.
Should could still hear what I was saying because she left one of her ears out. "Make sure that you keep your fingers on the side of the trigger you guys. Only shoot when you need to, this is how you avoid an unwanted shot. On three you guys all have to make a head shot, then it'll be time to rotate, you ready guys?" I looked at Latoya, Tito, and randy.
I shouted. "Three! Two! One! Go!" I cupped my mouth.
They all fired the shots, and to my surprise, all of them landed in the center of the head, or the forehead.
I clapped smiling at their quick learning. They dis extended their arms and lowered their guns. They placed their guns in their hostesses and they all gave me a hug. "Thank you Layla, now we can get Janet." Latoya told me while hugging me, along with her brothers.
They all let me go and smiled. Tito was about to say something but the timer rung, telling us it's time to rotate.
Everyone roasted to each station learning each tactic, and additional things that they didn't know. After all three rotations were over, Michael and my mother came over to me with a clipboard with everyone's success and there weaknesses. This was going to determine who goes to combat. The Jacksons were cover sating about the new badass skills that they just learned. We even taught them some kicking combos. These people grasp the concepts really quick. They understood all the scenarios, even Joseph.
Michael looked at his clipboard, a long with my mother to tell me the facts. "Okay so Tito, randy, and Latoya's strengths are Working the guns, snipers, and other hand held weapons, and they're good at self esteem defense, but are not good at escaping." He summed up.
I looked at the clipboard my mother gave me, and I filled out the info from the people she got, we all exchanged clipboards to fill in more information. "Okay, Katherine, Joseph, and Rebbie are good at escaping, physical protection, and shooting. But since they aren't the youngest child people, it might be hard for them to run away." I told them.
Michael shook his head. "I may not want them to go into combat, but don't underestimate them, they could be good backup." He smiled.
I agreed with him. "Maybe you're right. Mom, status report please." I looked over to her.
She looked down on her clipboard reading the feedback. "Jackie, Jermaine, and Marlon are good at Physical protection, and escaping, but they are too cocky with their guns. They are a little shaky on their targets, but they could potentially make great kills. They grasped the silent kill tactics, escaping the chokeholds, etcetra." She read off.
I clapped loudly smiling. "Good work you guys!" I smiled at my mom.
I looked over at the tired Michael. I looked back slightly motioning for my mom to leave, and she obliged.
I put my arms on Michaels shoulder, and used my other, to stroke his hair. "Michael, I'm going to get you're sister back. Good job today, really." I tried to kiss him, but he dodged my kisses.
I scrunched my brows together, and brought my face into a pout. "Does my breath stink or something?"
He took my arm off his shoulder, and sighed heavily. "I heard what you said." He pouted.
I shook my head, raising a brow. "Heard what?"
He paced back and fourth, and stopped to look intensely into my soul. "Why do you want to break up with me, you're the only person that I truly love. I've never loved some one the way I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I want to grow old with you, I want you to be the mother of my children, don't break my heart Osodo." His voice cracked, as he took my hands.
I looked down as I soaked in all the information he poured to me. I grasped his hands smiling slightly. "Michael, I can't help but feel that I cause you more pain. I don't want you to have this lifestyle, I got your family hurt. I'm sorry. I just want to protect you. I love you too baby, but I can't live with myself, knowing that I will cause you pain." I looked down again, with my eyes getting glassy.
Michaels eyes began to budge as he got angry. He grabbed my arm and pulled to into the supply closet. "Damn it Layla, don't you get it? I knew what I was signing up for the day that I met you. You pushed all your thoughts, and fears aside to date me, like the tabloids and the lies, and all that. I gave you my virginty, I gave you my heart, I gave you my trust, and I'm riding with you till the end. What else do you want? I love you so much Layla, I want you to know that. Don't leave me when it gets hard, because I wouldn't even think about doing it to you. We are going to defeat these people together. And as much as you say you're breaking up with me, I won't let you." He cupped my face. "So, take it back. I know you want me as much as I want you. Like my mother said, this isn't your fault. People who have evil in their hearts will never prosper. Admit that you love me as much as I love you. Admit that you will ride with me the way I ride with you, admit that you will be here with me, until death do us part, admit it." He breathed, tears threatening to fall from his eyes.
Tears began to involuntarily fall from my eyes, as the truth he spoke spiraled through my head. "You're right, part of being in a relationship is relying for each other. What was I thinking? I admit it. I admit that I love you, I love you even more then you love me. I guess that's why I want to protect you. But we can protect each other. I love you so much Jackson, I will never stop. I'll never think that again." I sniffles, wiping the tears from my eyes.
He grabbed my face with just enough force, and pulled his lips into mine. He kissed me quite hard, letting me know that he loved me. His kisses always had a different move. He bit my lip slightly, and brought his hands down to my waist. His tongue grazed mines, and it tasted of mint, as usual. He smiled against my lips, making butterflies circuit through my stomach. He pulled back kissing my both of my cheeks, my forest, my nose, and pretty much my whole face. I giggled at his cute gesture.
He smiled brightly. "I'm so infatuated, and in love with you." He admitted, looking into my eyes.
I smiled back at him, and put my hands around him. "I'm in love with you too. Like a lot. You're my dork, and I love you." I looked up and puckered my lips. "Give me a kiss, we have to go."
He shook his head smiling. "Dork." He gave me a loving kiss, then ended it with a peck. I squeezed his butt slightly, making him laugh.
"Alright mike, let's go." I smiled as I took his hand.
Once I opened the door, I immediately saw all his siblings sitting outside of the door, indicating that they were eavesdropping. Randy pretended to whistle, while Latoya played with her nails. Rebbie looked around with her hands behind her back. Jermaine, and Jackie were pretending to play a hand game. And Tito just sat on the floor.
All the adults were talking near the exit.
I pointed at them smiling. "Y'all ain't slick." I laughed.
Rebbie rolled her eyes playfully. "Neither are y'all." She winked.
Everyone laughed at her remark, as we got up. They were all suited in armor, with their guns, knives, and everything else we needed. Michael, my mom, and I's things were in the truck that my brother brought.
I walked over to the door, letting go of Michaels hand. I got up on the stool and cupped my hands to yell. "Are you guys ready?!"
They all raised their fists in the air. "Yeah!!" They all exclaimed.
I frowned, smiling slightly. "I said are y'all ready!?"
They raised their fists in the air higher. "Hell yeah!!" They yelled.
I got off the stool, and smiled at all of them. "Okay, let's go get Janet."
I opened the door for everyone, and watched as the room emailed. I could hear the clashing and clanging of their weapons as they walked out. These people are ready, and I'm ready too.
Let's go end some shit.
