Chapter 27
A/N: I hope this chapter is interesting to you guys. Vote and comment loves. I put the song, like the reggae song that Nancy and Layla were listening to, and you guys can sing along too! Have fun reading.
Michael's POV
I looked through the manual holes layla created with her thumbs, to see through my bag. Me, layla, and her mother maneuvered through the people in the lobby hallway. I received a couple strange stares, little did they know, I wash blushing underneath my bag.
I hurried up to open the double doors for layla and her mother. And once again, they laughed at me.
I rolled my eyes under my bag, and got into the Volkswagen waiting outside for us. I sat in the back with Layla, and Nancy sat in the front.
Once I closed the door, Nancy, Bill, and pretty much everyone started up conversation.
Bill laughed lightly. "How was you guys day? You ready to meet the Jackson's Layla?"
She sat back in her seat signing. "Hell no." She laughed.
I saw Nancy arch her brows in the mirror. "Language Layla, Mbaya sana."
She smacked her teeth. " Chochote mama , siyo kwamba mbaya" She said laughing.
"Ndiyo siyo is." She retorted.
Bill smacked his lips. "Why y'all speaking ancient tongues in here?"
I started laughing, my laughter bellowed through the car. Bills deep baritone voice made the laughing seem even louder. I was clutching my stomach, wheezing.
"Ahh, ha ha. What we're you guys saying anyways?" I breathed, containing my self.
Layla rolled her eyes laughing. "I said a bad word, and my mother said its not good to curse." She explained.
Bill nodded slowly. "Okay, but what's the ahmed, Zulu Doo doo you were speaking. You said all that in 2 seconds." Bill joked.
I pursed my lips suppressing my loud laughs.
"Well, Bill I said, whatever mom, it's not that serious, and she told me in was, then you and Michael started laughing like that goblins you are." I flicked Bill off as he looked in the rear view mirror.
Layla's POV
I swear, I love all these people with my life. Things are finnaly getting better.
But that doesn't mean I'll let my gaurd down.
"Hey," I started, crossing my legs. "Turn on the radio!" I told bill.
He dragged, and sighed obnoxiously."Okay."
He turned the knob, and put it on some new station. We all tuned in to listen.
"Barbra, what do you have to say about this horrific tragedy?" The anchor woman said.
"Well, black lives do infact matter. Philando Castile's case is infact being investigated. James will explain what happened."
"Well Barbra, Ms. Diamond Reynolds soon to be engaged recorded her husband's last moments, and streamed it live on face book, here is the audio." The other henchman said.
"Stay with me. We got pulled over for a busted tail light in the back. And the police, he just, he's covered, he killed my boy friend. *Fuck* he's licensed he's carry, he's licensed to carry. He was trying to get out his ID and his wallet out his um, pocket. And he let the officer know that he was rea- he had a firearm and he was reaching for his wallet. And the officer just shot him in his arm. we're waiting for *keep your hands where I can see them.* I will sir, no worries I will. *Fuck* he just shot his arm off. We got pulled over on larpener *I told him not to reach for it, I told him to get his hand off his* you told him to get his ID sir. And his driver's license. Oh my god please don't tell me he's dead. Please don't tell me my boyfriend just went like that. *Keep your hands were they are please* yes, I will sir. I will keep my hands where they are. Please don't tell me this lord. Please don't tell me that he's gone."
"Wow, what a sad tragedy, the gun was still pointed at the man after he was shot. You can hear after she gets arrested you can hear her daughter consoling her." Barbra said.
"Yes, saddening. Well, let's talk abou-" the radio was cut off by my mother.
I could see her shaking her head. My face was brought into a pout, as my condolences went to the family. Bill had. Blank stare as he was driving.
Michael was shaking his head, and his eyes were glassy. "This is ridiculous. I'm sure that man didn't deserve being shot like that. This world is sick. I want to make it a safer place." He ranted.
I rubbed his shoulder, comforting him. "Michael, through your music, and your kind words; empowerment. You're already making the world better." I told him, smiling.
He smiled back at me. "Let's change the atmosphere, we can have this discussion later."
"Ooh! I know what we can do!" My mother cheered.
I sat up in my seat in curiosity. "What?"
She pulled a CD out of her purse.
I sighed, and rolled my eyes. "Mom, the last time we had a CD-"Michael cut me off.
"Nasty lyrics appeared." He finished.
She laughed slightly, and bill looked confused as ever.
Well he can't know about that day, not yet.
My mom smacked her lips. "No, it's a good song, I promise." She swore.
I sat back in my seat and trusted her. Michael and Bill were anticipated for the song.
The familiar reggae beat rung through the car. I instantly had fun flash backs from my days in Africa.
"Now dis one dedicated to the girls. Dem wid di angel face and the devil heart. Yuh no say Ragamuffin Chaka Demus an youth called Pliers. Come to deal with your case, step up my youth, hear dis." I sung along with Pliers.
I began to move my hips, while sitting down. The musical lyrics flooded my body as me and my mother sung along.
Bill and Michael were nodding to the strong beat that only reggae music has. It's unique.
"I know this little girl, her name is Maxine. Her beauty is like a bunch of rose. If I ever tell you 'bout Maxine, you would say
I don't know what I know but.
Murder she wrote. Fi real fi real
Murder she wrote. Murder she wrote. Murder she wrote. Murder she wrote." I snapped my fingers rhythmatically.
My mom began to sing the sex part, dancing in her seat as well, Michael and Bill just watched us enjoy ourselves.
"Watch ya now, it name. A pretty face and bad character. Dem the kinda livin. Can't hold Chaka. Follow me. A pretty face, And bad character, Dem the kinda livin'
Can't hold Chaka, Seh gal yuh pretty. Yuh face it pretty. But yuh character dirty. Gal yuh just act too flirty flirty. Yuh run to Tom, Dick. An' also Harry. An when yuh find yuh mistake, Yuh talk bout yuh sorry, Sorry, sorry. Come now." My mom sung along.
I sung the last part, and still, Michael and Bill were bobbing there heads to the contagious beat. I guess they got the chorus so that's what we all sung.
"I know this little girl, her name is Maxine. Her beauty is like a bunch of rose. If I ever tell you 'bout Maxine, you would say
I don't know what I know but.
Murder she wrote. Fi real fi real
Murder she wrote. Murder she wrote. Murder she wrote. Na, na, na, Murder she wrote." Me, Michael, my mom, and bill sung in unison.
The track began to fade out, as Chaka Demus and Pliers talked in their thick Caribbean accents.
I looked at Michael who was smiling uncontrollably. "That was such a fun song, I'm glad I got to hear it."
My mom nodded. "You're welcome." She giggled.
Bill was still humming the tune, while driving.
I raised my brows and had a large smirk on my face. "So you like the song huh?" I teased bill.
He smacked his teeth. "Well duh, if I'm humming it." He joked. "We will be in Havenhurst in 2 minutes by the way."
I nodded slowly. "Thanks Bill."
He sighed heavily. "Yeah, yeah yeah. But I want gas money."
My mom gasped and hit bill playfully. "That's too much money. I'll give you a quarter, and a tic tac." She offered, digging in her purse.
Michael spoke up. "Bill, you really shouldn't turn that down, especially the tic tac." He joked.
Me and my mom looked at each other with our eyes bulged, instigating. "Ooo, he told you bill, what are you going to do?"
Michale began to laugh hysterically and bill giggled occasionally.
Bill wafted his hands up and down, as Michael's air splitting laughs echoed through the car. "Alright alright, get out of my car. We're here." He laughed, shifting the gears.
I unclicked my seat belt and sat up in my seat. I gave Bill a small hug. "I'll give you some Ice for that burn later." I told him.
I guess Michael heard because now he's leaning against the car door, clutching his stomach. This man laughs really loud.
Bill pushed me off him lightly. "You're such a meanie." He laughed. "And Michael, shut up man!" He laughed with him.
My mom was giggling at all of this.
The only thing that was on my mind were Michael's parents.
Janet's POV
I wandered in the kitchen looking for something to eat. I saw some fresh smoky sausages laid perfectly on the dining room table, however my mother smacked my hand before I could grab anything.
I shook my hand lightly. "Mother, why did you do that?" I laughed.
He raised her brows. "Janet, we have to wait for Michael, his friend, and the mother."
I was about to say something but their was noise comming from outside. I peered through the windows and saw a Volkswagen outside.
My mother came behind me and looked through the window as well. I saw Michael falling out of the car, laughing extremely loud.
I closed the curtains quickly and informed my brothers of Michael's arrival.
"Hey you dorks, Michael is here." I put my hand on my hips.
Randy stood up from his place in the chair. "Shush hot head, we heard him from all the way outside." He laughed.
"I did too!" Marlon butted in.
I rolled my eyes. "Okay, but be on your best behavior, especially you Randy."I pointed at him.
My sister Latoya sighed heavily, as she looked in the small mirror I'm her purse. "Okay mother, we will."
I was about to say something extremely smart but the door opened, stooping me abruptly.
I turned around to see one of my favorite siblings.
Michaels POV
"Apple head!" Janet cheered, opening her arms up so I can give her a hug.
"Dunk!" I embraced her tightly. I could feel myself getting slightly emotional at the sight of my family.
"Okay janet, don't kill him." I heard my older sister Rebbie say.
Janet let go of me, smiling.
I turned around reckoning for Layla, and Ms. Nancy to come in. We closed the door, and I continued to greet everybody.
"You've been working on my diet plan so you can finnaly be slim Tito?" I asked him, while giving him a hug.
He pulled back and smacked his lips. "You're still the joker Applehead."
I looked over at my mom who was watching us all greet. I walked over to her and embraced her tightly. I missed her so much. "Hello mother, how have you been?" I asked her.
"Oh, I've been fine, I missed you." She kissed my cheeks. "Are you going to introduce us to them?"
"Yeah! Hurry Michael." Janet told me.
I waved my hands telling Nancy and Layla to come stand besides me. "This is my girl, Layla, and her mother Nancy." I told them.
Randy got up from his seat, and kissed Layla's hand. "You sure are a fine lil thang." He told her.
I cleared my throat loudly, and pushed Randy back. "She's my girl Randy, please go get your own." I laughed.
But I was serious.
Since I was in the family room, mother told all of us to sit down. Janet, Latoya and Rebbie took a seat on the couch by Layla.
I sat on the floor with Jakie, Marlon, Randy, Jermaine, and Tito.
And finnaly, my mother sat with Ms. Nancy on another couch.
My mom smiled at everybody and spoke up. "I haven't heard you guys talk since you got here! Tell us about yourself."
I looked over to Layla, reassuring her.
Laylas POV
Michael told me that I was going to be grilled with questions so here we go.
I looked over to Ms. Katherine smiling.
"Well, my Name is Layla Amaya Osodo. I'm from West Africa, Nairobi Kenya to be exact. And I came to America to better my life." I said sincerly.
One of his brothers put his fist on his mouth. "Ooo, and she sounds foreign too? Michael I need to get one of those."
I blushed slightly, and my mother shifted uncomfortably. We still dont know these people.
Michael smacked his brother upside the head playfully. "Shut up Randy."
Their mother pointed at them. "Enough."
They stopped playing immediately. Its quite cute that they listen to their mother, no matter the age.
One of his sister's, I'm assuming Janet, asked me another question. "How did you guys meet?" She sighed dreamily.
I think I'm going to like her.
"Well," I started while smiling. "I was comming from Africa and Michael bumped into me, making me fall."
One of his brothers started to laugh, the oldest one. "Michael, you're a cluts." He teased.
His Mother shushed him. "Shush Jermaine, let the woman talk."
I nodded and laughed faintly. "Yeah, and he helped me up. I was trying to figure out how to work my card key for the hotel and Michael helped me. He had on a terrible disguise not to mention." That part made everyone laugh.
Janet shook her head. "Michaels not good at those."
I rolled my eyes, sighing playfully; getting comfortable with these people. "Tell me about it, he used a paper bag for the most part."
Michael butted in, wagging his finger. "Not uh Layla, you stopped doing my disguises." He laughed.
Randy gasped again. "She does disguises too?"
Everyone laughed at Randy, including my mother.
Ms. Jackson clapped her hands seizing our laughter. "Alright babies, how did you know it was him if he had a disguise." She smiled.
I looked down smiling, crossing my legs. "Well, his curls were hanging out of his cheap wig. He didn't do the makeup on his neck, or his hands. And his eyes. They were special and one of a kind, I couldn't pass them up." I admitted, looking at Michael. All the ladies in the room 'awed' and sighed dreamily.
He smiled and blew a kiss at me before his brother hit him upside the head.
His face scrunched "Ugh jakie! Why did you do that."
He laughed loudly, along with his brothers. They play hard like me. So, I think I'm gunna like his family.
"Take it and pass it down. Tito smacked Jermaine, Jermaine smacked Randy, and Randy smacked Marlon, Marlon smacked me, and now I'm smacking you." Jakie explained explained.
Janet, Latoya, and Rebbie were shaking their heads with me. Janet leaned over and whispered to me. "Welcome to the family." She sarcastically said.
I smiled at her sense of humour, and she smiled back. She sure does look like Michael.
Michael laughed slightly. "You're still the big jerk I remember."
Michaels POV
I was about to speak, but Marlon's loud claps halted me.
"Okay, okay." He started.
He put his hand on my shoulder, and looked me in the eyes. "Michael, all I want to know is, did you smash?"
My eyes bulged in size at Marlon's question. Layla blushed extremely hard, and both of our mothers had a waiting expression on their faces. Janet, Latoya, and Rebbie were blank as they stared at me and my brothers.
I spoke up. "I'm a gentlmen." I covered my face.
When I uncovered it, I saw Randy nodding. "Yep, he smashed." He laughed.
I heard my mother's angelic voice break our laughter. "Michael did you have premarital sex?"
Ms. Nancy raised her eyebrows at me. "Did you?"
Layla gave me a stern look, begging me not to say anything.
Janet and Toya's started to wave their arms in the air. "C'mon you guys, that's their business, let them be. Y'all act like y'all never got none." Janet reasoned, looking at everybody. When we met eyes, I winked at her.
She nodded in understanding.
My mother got up and proceeded to the kitchen, Ms. Nancy followed, making conversation, they were preparing plates. Janet got up an went to her room, to prepare to eat. Latoya stayed with Layla, and me and my brothers stayed on the ground, with Rebbie included.
We were talking quietly amongst ourselves.
Marlon bumped my arm playfully with his elbow. "She's fine Michael, good job." He winked, with his cheesy smile.
Rebbie spoke up. "Yea Michael, she's gorgeous!"
I looked to Randy. "She's thick too. Wow, she's a hottie. How did you even get to mac with her?" He complimented.
I shrugged, feeling blessed with Layla as my lady. "I bumped into her! I guess she liked my eyes." I looked down getting shy.
Jakie halted everyone, putting his hands up. "Okay Michael, but seriously, since we're your siblings, did you guys do the Willy?" He asked, putting me on the spot.
I was about to give my siblings the honest truth, but my door swung open revealing someone who made my stomach churn.
Joseph.
Laylas POV
I continued to conversate with Latoya about my journey here. I feel like we could be really good friends, shes a sweetheart too.
I laughed at one of her funny retorts. "Ha, michael? He ain't nothing hot." She laughed.
I called her by her nickname, getting comfortable. "Toya, you're not supposed to think he's cute. Thats incest duh." I laughed.
Incest is a familiar term that I hate more then words can describe.
She laughed at my sense of humour. She was going to talk but was quickly halted with the door opening. I'm assuming Michael's father arrived. His strong cigar aroma was forced into my nostrils making me squeamish.
Everyones conversations stopped, as his eerie presence filled the room; with fear. I looked over to Michael to try to re assure him, but he was trembling in fear while his brothers were distracting themselves by looking at something else.
Joseph placed his fedora on the hook, and took his jacket off. My mom and Ms. Katherine came out of the kitchen. Since my mom didn't recognize the fear instilled in everyone, she rushed over to Joseph to greet him.
She put her hand out to shake, while everyones eyeballs were glued on the scene. Not to mention to searing silence.
"Hello, I'm Nancy Osodo, and this is my daughter Layla Osodo." She smiled brightly, displaying her african accent.
His eye brows raised at her foreign accent. He smiled blandly, and held out his hand. "Joseph." He nodded.
Something sparked in his eyes, and I'm not sure what it was.
Ms Katherine headed to the kitchen to say hello to her husband, and I have to admit, the whole scene was awkward.
She smiled at my mother, as she walked over to me.
After all the greetings were done, Ms Katherine called all of us into the kitchen.
Me, Michael and his siblings all gathered into the kitchen. We all joined hands in prayer and Ms. Katherine smiled at us. "Are you guys religious?"
I smiled politley. "Yes, I'm of Christian faith, and my mom is non religious." I told her.
Everyones heads whiped at my mom.
She shook her head profusely. "No, I was non religious in Africa. Going threw things make you wonder if a god exists. But with patience and receiving a large blessing like this, it shows that his love is unconditional. It was a work of God, as to why I'm here, alive, and with you guys. I'm of Christian faith as well Layla." She looked over to me and everyone.
I could see Rebbie and Latoya smiling sympathetically at my mom, as Michael, who was sitting near her, was rubbing her arm. Joseph didn't really care to be there, all he had was a blank stare on his face.
Ms Katherine was tearing up as well. "That was beautiful, it's an honour to have you guys with us. You are the orgin of all black people in America. You'll have to tell me more about the place!"
My mother nodded slightly, but she began to sweat. Africa wasn't the best place to be.
Ms. Katherine's voice echoed again. "Okay, let's begin prayer." She cleared her throat.
Randy and Jermaine were shaking, anxious to eat the delicious food scattered across the tables. However, Michael had a weird look on his face.
He let go of my mother's hand and spoke. "Hey wait, where's Janet?"
I could hear all his brothers sighing, frustrated with the waiting. Everyone looked up at Michael.
"She went to her room, go get her!" Latoya told him.
He had a cheesy smile on his face. "Come with me toya."
She rolled her eyes laughing. "Fine."
Her and Michael proceeded through the main hallways, and instantly Ms Katherine started conversation. "So how are you all today?" She smiled.
Randy rolled his eyes. "Hungry."
Everyone laughed slightly at his answer. "You ain't lying Ran." His brother said, I'm assuming Tito.
There was comfortable silence, besides Joseph being here. I sighed and closed my eyes smiling. However I quickly flinched at the sound of someone's blood curdling screams.
Instantly as and instinct, I rushed into the room, busting the door down. I couldn't believe what I saw.
Michael had a blank stare, and Latoya is just freaking out, running her fingers through her hair.
All of Janet's childhood belongings were smashed and diminished. The glass and porcelain crunched underneath my feet as I examined everything. There were bloody hand prints being dragged, next to Janet's window, indicating that she was fighting to stay inside. I moved everybody out the way. The Jackson family scrutinized me as I investigated everything. I could feel their eyes burning through my back.
I looked out the window and there was no van, or get away.
I closed the curtains and smelled the blood. I shook my head in disbelief.
I turned around to face everyones distraught faces. "Guys, this is fresh blood. She's been kidnapped not too long ago." I explained.
Aha! Cliffhanger huh? Who do you think did it? I hope this made up for not updating. Things get tough here. I hope you enjoy. Also Obama is going to be in dallas here, and I wanna low-key go so I can finesse a scholarship or something but they sniping niggas. Well I love y'all, I need to work on my descriptions a little better.
