Chapter 11

Sorry for yet another long update. I dropped my iPhone in koolaid and now I have this Android. The auto correct sucks, so if I have any minor spelling errors, I apologize in advance. I'll have my iPhone, and a Mack book later so I'll update way quicker with less errors. Happy reading babes.

Layla POV

I tiredly opened my eyes and rubbed the crust covering them. I glanced at my mother who was peacefully sleeping. I smiled at the sight of her drooling. I sighed and put my arms up; stretching them, earning some loud cracks from my tired joints.

I looked at the bright screen on the head of the seat. It said we were 7 minutes from our destination. Weird, I was sleeping for 17 hours. Well killing is hard work.

I frowned at the last thought that ran through my mind. I sound like a mad woman. Anyways, since we were about to board off the plane, I turned to my mother and shook her gently.

"Wake up mom." I softly said to her.

She rattled a bit in her chair and groaned angrily.

"What Layla damn it." She whispered angrily.

Someone isn't a morning person. Well, I think it's morning.

I sighed and smiled at her. We are just alike. I hate being woken up. It's like Satan pulling you out of God's arms, it sucks.

"C'mon mom, we are," I paused to look at the screen. "We are four minutes away from getting off."

She shot up and dusted off her crusty face. She wiped the drool that was drenching her face and wiped it on her pants.

"Ew mom, gross." I said frowning.

"Oh hush." She said smiling.

I was about to reply until I heard the intercom speaker thingies.

Hello passengers. We safely made it to sunny San Diego! We will be there in about two minutes. Please collect your luggage when the plane comes to a stop. I hope you enjoyed flying with KLM

Well I wouldn't know. I was sleeping the whole entire flight.

I looked at my mom and she stared out the window as the plane drove down the runway. I stretched once more and watched the dark San Diego skies. It was a beautiful sight really. The city illuminated the run way just enough to show us how gorgeous this place was.

The plane came to a stop and I stood up smiling like an idiot. I felt at home already and I had no idea why. I opened the compartment that held our suitcases and proceeded to exit. My mom followed as well.

As we made our way out I began to thank the pilot.

I smiled at him. "Thanks for not crashing. Really thank you!" I said wiping my forehead.

"No problem miss." He said shaking my hand.

My mom nodded at him smiling and we proceeded out of the plane. We went through this tunnel that led us to some place where people meet their families? I don't know.

KLM airlines from Nairobi, Southwest from Kentucky, and Spirit Airlines from Dallas, please come collect your luggage.

I saw people Rise from their seats when the lady on the speakers finished talking. I looked at my mom and reckoned her to follow them.

"Where are we going Layla?" She asked confused.

I sighed and grabbed her arm. "They are going to get their luggage. That's exactly where ours are. Didn't you hear the intercom?" I asked her, walking with the group of people.

"Yeah, but how do you know they are right!" She asked.

"They have experience an we don't." I said.

Duh mom.

I continued walking with my mom until I came to a spot that had suitcases being circled on these conveyer belts.

I got closer to the belt and looked for our luggage. We put rags on ours to differentiate ours from everyone else's.

Yeah I seen the movies.

I spotted our fluorescent green luggage and pointed to them so my mom could see. We walked to them and picked them up.

"Let's go." I told her.

She smiled and we walked towards the big red sign that said exit. Only a fool could miss it. I went to the booth that said "phone calls" and asked the lady to call me a taxi.

"Where to?" She asked, she sounds so different from us Africans.

I rubbed the back of my neck "Marriott hotel." I said smiling.

She smacked obnoxiously on her gum and spoke up. "Sure you can afford it?" She asked snickering.

"Sure you can grow some edges?" My mom asked with the same amount of smartness in her tone.

She huffed showing her evident attitude "Whatever, they'll be here in 7 minutes, wait outside." She said scoffing.

"Okay, bye sweetie. I'm sure castor oil and olive oil will grows those poor things out." I smartly said.

She hung up the phone in anger and chewed her gum harder. My mom highfived me and we walked out of the airport laughing.

When we got outside, this taxi driver held up a paper with our names on it. I looked at my mom and she laughed.

"What a fancy place. Look at his fancy hair." She said pointing at the man, looking him up and down.

"And his fancy shoes." I added.

We both walked up to him and he greeted us with a warm smile. He was a tall chocolate man with large brown eyes and a full head of puffy hair. He flashed his white smile once again. He wasn't handsome but my mom thought otherwise.

I looked at her direction and she was melting under his gaze.

I shook my head and giggled.

"You are going to the Marriott correct?"

"Um I, well she sa-... Um." My mom said stumbling over her words

I covered her mouth and spoke up while my mom watched.

"Yes sir," I said giggling. "We are going to the Marriott."

"Oh and sorry about her" I said cupping the side of my face whispering loudly.

My mom just scowled at me playfully.

The man laughed and took out luggage and placed in the back. He then slammed the trunk. I have to admit, as cute as my mom thinks he is, I'm kind of skeptical about taxis, yanno because of earlier.

He opened the door kindly and asked us to get in. My mom just stared at him, drooling worse than earlier. I pushed her into the car shaking my head smiling.

"You're so silly." I told her before the taxi man got in.

"He's fine as wine, and he'll only get better with time." She whispered smiling.

"Oh so you have bars now?" I asked slapping her arm playfully.

She stared at me in confusion. "Bars?"

"Never mind mom." I said mumbling.

The taxi started revving up and we were on our way. On our way into the city away from our problems. I sat back and relaxed, and my mother did the same.

Finally.

Michaels POV

I sighed as I unlocked my hotel room door. I closed the door frantically and took my disguise off.

"My fans are crazy." I said chuckling to myself.

I walked further in and took my socks off. I hung my jacket on some rack and turned on the t.v .
I turned to cartoon network because they have the best cartoons. Tom and Jerry was coming on. My favorite. I walked to the mini fridge and got the rolled tacos I've been saving. I walked back and plopped on my bed.

I turned the T.V up to tune out my fans but nothing worked. I loved them with all my heart but they were quite loud.

I walked towards the balcony and waved at them. They screamed even louder, causing my eardrums to burst.

Love hurts.

I gave them one last wave before I closed my curtains. I walked back to my bed and grabbed my cell phone. I texted bill and told him to guard my door.

I set my phone down gently and resumed my lonely lifestyle. Cartoons and food.

Ding.

I picked up my phone and read the message.

Bill: sure thing Mike, be safe. I'm outside if you need anything.

Me: sure thing :)

I set my phone back down and continued to stuff my face with rolled tacos. I stared at the t.v screen intensely. Jerry hit Tom across the face with a frying pan. I bursted into a fit of laughter as my partially chewed tacos flew everywhere.

"Oopsies." I said to myself.

I sighed to myself. I need friends. Who just eats food and does nothing all day.

Oh yeah, me.

I sat back on my bed with a rolled taco in my hand.

I tapped the taco on my chin and began to ponder. I've never been so bored in my life.

I jumped up and got an idea. A fun one.

I hopped off my bed and proceeded to walk towards my closet. I applied a black wig, a mustache, and some foundation that is the complete opposite of my brown Carmel skin. I put on some shades and started towards the door.

Time to have some fun.

Layla POV

The taxi driver swerved into the Marriott parking lot and stopped the car by the entrance. I looked around and the building was very tall. The bright lights lit up the sidewalks. Many different ethnicities were being greeted by these men who took their cars. They willingly give them the keys.

Strange.

"That will be 44.50$ ma'am" the man said looking in the back seat.

"Um, you thought." I said.

He looked back at me angrily.

"Nah, I'm just kidding you." I told him laughing.

My mom sighed in relief and slapped my arm.

"Owie." I said, faking a sad face.

She just stuck her tongue out at me as did the taxi driver did. I laughed at them both and pulled out my money. I gave him 50$ and told him to keep the change.

"I'll see you guys around. I'm Sammy by the way." He said. "Y'all the funniest customers I've ever had and you remind me why I love my job."

"Well you a- well u-" my mom said stuttering again.

I spoke up for her. "She means thank you." I told him giggling.

He reached in his pocket an gave me his number.

I frowned at him. I don't want to sound rude but he's a little old.

"Not for you, for your Mom. When she's okay and acts normally." He said rubbing my mom's arm.

She started to shake at his touch. She needs to stop playing. I grabbed her by the arm and stepped outside in the warm California air.

We saw the taxi driver step out of his car to pop the trunk. He handed us our luggage and spoke to my mom.

"Bye miss?" He asked; waiting for my mom's reply.

"Nancy, her name is Nancy." I told him nudging my mom's arm.

She had a stupid smile on her face and twirled her hair in her fingers. Like a little schoolgirl. He grabbed her hand and placed it in his. He planted a soft kiss on it and my mom gasped smiling.

"Night ladies." He said, getting back in his vehicle.

"Bye Sammy." My mom yelled suddenly.

We both looked her smiling.

I grabbed her again and proceeded towards the front of the building.

"He's so sexy lay, like a nice goat." She said fanning herself.

I laughed at her fan girling. " he likes you, just chill out mom. Also, nice comparison." I said laughing at her.

She turned beet red and hushed up. I continued snickering at her. I looked over to my left because it was quite a loud hotel. Their were people cheering and screaming. Also they were taking pictures of nothing.

America is strange.

I tore my eyes away from the sight and walked into the hotel.

I went to the bell hopper or hotel management and gave them my credentials. I already got my green cards for me and my mother a while ago just in case she wanted to come.

"Your room is 212." She said handing me and my mom some cards.

Okay we'll figure out how to use these.

Me and my mom walked up to the elevator and pressed Hall 200.

I waited in anticipation as the elevator made sounds, letting people out in the process.

Michael POV

I was walking out my door. I turned off the lights and closed the door slowly. I tiptoed away from it and I stopped dead in my tracks because of a deep voice.

"Where are you going Mr. Jackson?" Bill said looking down at his newspaper.

Damn it.

"Just let me be, I'm going to get Chinese food." I told him sighing.

"Be safe," he started "Take this." He said throwing his phone at me.

"Thanks bill, just take my phone." I said sincerely.

He nodded at me and continued reading.

I'm glad I didn't get my other stuck up security guards.

I walked fast towards the elevator trying to go to 100 Hall beneath me. In the process I knocked down something.

A lady. Oh my goodness.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." I said sincerely, putting my hand out to help this lady.

She got up and smiled at me. She's gorgeous. I began to get nervous and sweaty.

"No problem." She told me. She has a foreign accent. It's so pretty.

I nodded at her and began to walk away.

I was about to press the elevator button but her sweet melodic voice stopped me from doing so.

"Hey, I don't know how to work these card or keys?" She said giggling.

Oh my goodness I'm going to die.
"Could you help me and my mom out?" She asked me.

Her mom? Her mother is just as gorgeous as she is. The girl I knocked over has long curly hair, an hour glass frame, Carmel skin, big brown eyes, and plump soft lips I bet. Just how I like them.

I just realized I'm sitting here staring at her like an idiot. Say something Mike.

"You alright sir?" She asked walking towards me.

"Oh yeah? Me? Yep." I said smiling at her.

Good job idiot.

I looked at bill and he was just shaking his head smiling at me. He knows I got the hots for this girl.

"Here lemme help you." I said breaking the awkward silence I created.

"Great!" She cheered.

I walked towards her and grabbed the cards from her small hands. She smelled heavenly.

"Well it looks like you're room 212!" I told her. "It's right by mine actually." I said smiling at her.

She smiled back, and I felt happiness pulsating in my veins. My legs began to wobble and my breathing got heavy. She didn't notice tho.

"So to work these dohickeys you just put them in this slot for a couple seconds and boom! You're in." I said as her room opened.

"Thank you so much," she cheered.

She walked up to me and hugged me. I was taken aback by this gesture but I hugged her back.

She pulled back and sighed. "Oops, sorry," she said shyly biting her lip.

She's really trying me.

"It's African gestures, I'm sorry if that's too forward in America?" She told me looking at her feet.

"No no," I said lifting her chin up. "It's cool, really! Who doesn't like hugs."

"Me." The lady beside her said. Presumably her mom?

She scoffed and faced me. "She's tired, sorry about that."

Her mom headed into the hotel and took her luggage in there.

"Be the Christian you claim to be." She told her jokingly.

Me and her daughter laughed at her response and she smiled back. She closed the door leaving us alone. Well accept bill. I looked at her, gazing at all her beauty while she shyly looked at the floor.

"Hey, I know this may sound too forward but I would like to get to know you better. Maybe it's too forward in Africa." I said copying her from earlier.

She flashed her bright smile at me and spoke up. "Yeah, sure! Maybe tonight over some Chinese food? I'm hungry actually." She said.

"Deal, I was heading out anyways. I can show you around San Diego!" I said cheering.

"Thank you so much," she told me smiling.

"No problem." I said, giggling.

Why am I giggling? I have no clue.

My giggling stopped when I realized I have to tell her who I really am. This part always ruins my chances of having true friends.

"Hey, what's your name?" I curiously asked to make up for the silence I just caused.

"Layla." She said, looking me in the eyes.

"Layla." I said, liking the way her name plays off my tongue.

"Yep," she said.

"Well Layla, I have something to tell you." I said, nervously rubbing my neck.

"What? That you're not like other guys?" She said; Snickering.

That was a Thriller reference.

My face went blank. She began to laugh loudly at my facial expression. She fell to the floor clutching her stomach.

She finally stood up and faced me.

I shook my head and spoke up, "How did you know?" I said above a whisper.

I heard bill snicker behind her.

"Well," she started. "You're cheap wig had your curls hanging out the back, your cheap foundation doesn't match your hands," she spoke.

I looked down at my hands as she continued.

"And, your cheek bones and big brown eyes are super hard to miss." She said softly. "They are one of a kind."

I smiled at her complement to help shield my extreme happiness at the moment.

"They aren't that special, me and my sister Janet and my mother have the same eyes."

She tapped her chin and paused. "You're right, your wack." She said sticking her tongue at me.

I loved her already, she knows how to joke, she treats me normally, and she's gorgeous, yes!

"Oh please, Michael Jackson has something others don't have." I said proudly.

"And what is that? A flat butt?" She said laughing at me.

"Ooh! Burn." Bill said chiming in.

I gasped suppressing my smile. I turned around and looked at my butt.

"It's quite firm and round, I'll ask my body guard bill. He'll tell me the truth" I said proudly. "Is my butt flat Bill?" I asked him.

Bill looked up from his newspaper and looked at it quickly.

"It's quite flat Mike." He said, looking back at his newspaper.

Both of them laughed at me and my face turned red as a cherry.

"I don't like neither of you." I said with my arms over my chest.

"Hey," she said giggling trying to control her laughter.

She was absolutely breath taking. I was still mad at her tho.

"You don't know me enough to hate me." She said laughing.

"She has a point." Bill said chiming in.

"Hush bill." I said looking at him.

He stuck his tongue out at me and I looked at Layla. She did the same thing.

"Well, first," I stuck my tongue out at both of them. "And second, well since I don't know you, let me get to know you." I said shyly.

"Well okay, C'mon. The Chinese food Is going to be gone." She said sticking out her arm.

We linked arms and walked towards the elevator. Suddenly she stopped.

"What's wrong?" I asked; concerned.

"Um," she said looking me up and down. "Not with that disguise. If I can recognize you, everyone can." She said laughing.

"Whatever," I said giggling. "Touch me up, make me fabulous." I said faking a flamboyant tone.

She screamed laughing and I just giggled watching her. We stopped as we heard a loud bang coming from her hotel.

"Will you fuckers keep it down, I want to sleep!" Her mom yelled from the other side.

We both snickered and walked into my hotel.

We're going to get along just fine.
