Chronicle 25

Ravi Sharma was in the ICU.
He'd got a massive heart attack two days back.

Dr Hiranmay Ganguly said he's stable now, but any kind of emotional distress could prove harmful.

Subhadra Hegde sat smiling before Pooja Behl, who was now signing formalities for Subhadra's release.

The snake like woman cursed herself for not proposing someone else's name than Subhadra Hegde, to the Imperial College, as an alternative to Ravi. It was all mailed and registered now.

" Hope you are happy, Madam Behl, to not have me around anymore.. "

Behl said nothing, just frowned.

Subhadra stood up arranging all the papers neatly.

Behl stared keenly at her,
" Before leaving... you might reveal the number of patients you have literally murdered in your professional life, Subhadra Hegde! "

Subhadra began counting.

" Thirty six. Approximately. "

Pooja Behl sprang up. If only she had recorded this statement.

But fell back weakly...
This would never be an evidence.

" Awww you are cute, Behl!!
Only if you could delay your menopause. Science still has a lot to do. "

As Subhadra Hegde left giggling, Pooja Behl felt like throwing the stone ash tray pointing her skull.

---

Kunal sat in his cabin, dazed and confused.

What should he feel about Subhadra Hegde walking out of his life?

His heart broke to trillion pieces. But all he had to do was to sit quietly, and have a battle with his brain.

It's alright. She was never my cup of tea. Or vice versa.

It's alright. She's not normal.

It's alright. She never would be someone else's, coz she still loved her husband...

Subhadra Hegde pushed in the door to his cabin.

" Hi Kunal " , she jumped up, to sit on the table.

Kunal rolled a paperweight.

" So, it's a final goodbye on my part. Will truly miss you for the support dear. " , Subhadra pulled his hair. He pushed her away.

" Ohh, are you mad at me for something? " , she exclaimed.

" Go away Subhadra. Don't hurt me more. You gotta go. Don't waste my time. "

Subhadra got down the table, placed a soft peck on his cheek.

And left.

Kunal Verma sat carressing his cheek for hours then, with impending tears hard to control.

---

Subhadra Hegde once again found herself standing before a semi dark cell.

" I'm leaving brother. I got a scholarship. You'll be happy to not find my ugly face around anymore. "

Vaibhav Patel sprang up and pounced onto the bars.
" Finally you are escaping!!!
But did you just think you'll leave and I won't reach upto you?
This time you won't even have that jackal to save you. "

" Had the anger inside me listened to this, I would have slit at least your wrist today.
But the forgiveness inside me heard it , and chose to forgive.

Take care, darling.

And aah, you have four more years to go. I pray to god, you find me after that. "

Subhadra Hegde walked away.
And when she walked, even storm gave a way.

---

Naseema Khan felt a tap on her shoulder.

A woman in doctor's coat stood beside her, smiling.

Naseema smiled back too.

The woman checked Wasim's pulse and BP and did some general survey.

Then almost whispered,

" Queensland College of Dementia, America, they work on newer ways on reversing dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Their success rate is nearly eighty percent. Why don't you take him there? He's too young....

He might not remember old stuffs , but will have a better present life. "

Naseema weakly smiled,
" No money doctor ma'am. Otherwise, won't I do the best for my only brother? "

The woman brought a bag she had kept at the corner of the room.

" One crore.
Will be enough for at least three months of treatment.
Once you reach America, you'll find numerous ways of living. Plus Queensland is an extremely humanitarian college.
And maybe, you'll find someone there, who will choose to help you. "

Naseema Khan couldn't judge a word. Like a machine, she took the money.

" I'll take care you use the money in his treatment only. Otherwise, it'll flow back to me. "

Naseema nodded like a robot. Who's she? An angel? Mother Mary herself?
Could anyone else actually see her?

Subhadra Hegde walked from 65 to 32.

" Mother....

I maybe the worst daughter on earth, but you can never be the worst mom. Right?
Hence I have decided to stop punishing you with a visit.

I know you feel extremely uneasy having me around. Isn't it? "

The woman suddenly stirred.

" Yeah yeah... I know mother, hence I'm leaving. Will never return.... "

She kissed on Sadhna's forehead.
Sadhna tried to grab her hand, but failed.

" What mother, you wanna say something? "

She did want. But all she could do was slowly nod her head.. with tears streaming down her eyes.

Subhadra Hegde walked up to the counter.

" Release Sadhna Patel. I'll take my mother along. "

---

Subhadra Hegde had signed her house to the NGO Reshmi worked with. Her dwelling was a huge property in itself.

She was now relaxedly seated in an Ola, with a paralysed mother beside.

However, Subhadra had never seen such a peaceful expression on her mother's face.

She raised her voice,
" Mother, we have a flight tonight to London. I've studies to finish there. Tell me, will you manage to stay with this dangerous daughter? "

Sadhna breathed deeply. And struggled to place her hands on her daughter's.

Subhadra nodded her head, smiling.

" Bhaiyaa, St. Peters Orphanage."

----

Myra pulled her bag out of her room. And almost ran to hug Subhadra tight.

" Ddiiii!!!!!! "

" It's okay darling, why do you everytime behave as if we are meeting after centuries...?? " , Subhadra hugged her back.

Mother Nancy sat and smiled and signed some bills.

" Because we don't meet everyday... " , Myra pouted.

" But don't we meet every alternate? "

Myra plopped a kiss on her cheeks.

Subhadra turned to Nancy.
" Mother, I hope Myra isn't registered anywhere just as I had said. "

Mother nodded.
" Doctor, our moto is to save little children. Why would I do something that might prove unsafe to her? "

They stood up.
Subhadra hugged Nancy.

" I won't forget what you have done for my child... for eight long years, Mother Nancy.. "

Nancy hugged back tighter.
" It was nothing compared to what you have been doing for our children, Subhadra...

They'll miss you, so will we. "

Myra walked ahead. Subhadra followed.

But turned back.

" Ohh... did I just pay the bills for all the international calls Myra made? "

" Yes Subhadra, you just paid for all the calls she made, to some...

Kabir Bakshi. "

Subhadra Hegde walked away.
And when she walked, even storm gave a way.

" Is it an end? Or just the beginning? "
