Beneath us the ground was getting closer, the trees growing larger and their features more prominent. The dragon's feet slammed into the earth and my thoughts jolted. Ssundee grinned at me. "We're here." I smiled back as Seto slid off of the dragon's scaly back, hands already aglow with magic. The dragon lay down and Ssundee and I jumped off onto the ground. The jungle trees loomed up before us, the very tops of their immense canopies too high above us to be seen. I looked round at Seto and saw his eyes glow bright purple. Ssundee and I exchanged glances as Seto stood there, frozen. Then the purple glow from his eyes faded and he smiled slightly. "I just sent out a tracking spell. The others are at SkyBase. They went there when you two went missing because they assumed that would be the first place you'd go." I blinked. "So, we go through this-" I jerked a thumb at the jungle behind me, "which leads to SkyBase?" Seto nodded. Ssundee opened his mouth to say something when I heard a wild screech echo through the biome. It was quickly followed by a guttural snarl and an immense roar that rattled my bones. Seto's eyes widened and his dragon's lips curled back off of its teeth, showing huge, long pointed canines. Ssundee pushed his sunglasses further up his nose and took a deep breath. "I think...they're being attacked." Despite the now somewhat dire circumstances we were now in, I couldn't help but roll my eyes. "Really? You think?" Then my world shattered in a rolling ball of flame.

~Ssundee~

My jaw dropped as a huge dragon, easily twice the size of Seto's, launched a ball of flame down from the sky that hit Derp full on. I tried to yell his name, but my vocal cords had ceased to work. Everything started happening extremely fast. Seto ran to his dragon as the one attacking us swooped down lazily from the sky above, heading straight for them. I ran to Derp. He was lying on the ground, looking confused and slightly dazed, his clothes and skin singed and blackened. His crooked eyes looked up at me and he narrowed them slightly, the scar on his face limiting his brow movement somewhat. "Ok then, I'm not dead." I sighed in relief. "No, not ye-" Someone slammed into me and I heard Derp snarl as he was attacked too. I saw SkyArmy suddenly burst from cover in the jungle trees and draw their weapons simultaneously. I looked up and my jaw dropped. "D-Diamond?!" She casually flicked her blonde hair over one shoulder and retorted: "Actually, the name's Dynansy." Anger gripped me like an iron fist and I kicked her viciously in the ribs. She hissed in pain through gritted teeth and lashed out, her long nails gouging into my skin. I growled and rolled over, putting her underneath me. I tried to draw my sword but the scabbard was stuck under my leg. In the time I was momentarily distracted, Diamond, or Dynansy as it seemed she was called, drew her own sword and was about to plunge it into my chest. My eyes widened. Then I saw her pupils dilate in shock as a shadow fell over us. "Ssundee. Move." I gasped. "Lancey?!" He pushed me off of her roughly and I expected him to attack me next. Instead, he grabbed Diamond and pulled her to her feet before wrestling her sword off of her and holding it to her throat. In the background I could see more dragons swooping down from the sky, squid hybrid's mounted on their backs, attacking my friends. I gathered that Lancey knew the truth by now and finally managed to draw my own sword before running to the first person I saw fighting. Deadlox whipped his head round, brown eyes alight with the rabid fire of battle. "Ssundee?!" I grinned and moved in to intercept the squid that was about to impale him. "So glad we could make it. When did this start?!" Deadlox moved to the side and stabbed a squid coming up from behind me. "They sent a few squid decoys to SkyBase to distract us while they attacked you guys. Sky quickly figured it out though and brought us here. In the nick of time too it seems!"

I ducked as a squid swung his blade over our heads and Ty's sword thudded between his eyes. The squid fell down dead and I frowned, trying to find Derp in amongst the writhing mass of bodies that made up the battle. Suddenly, I caught a glimpse of his crooked eyes as he fought side-by-side with Seto and Sky. I clenched my sword and dove into the mass of bodies. I hacked and slashed my way through the squid's ranks, white dust rising all around me and dissipating into the air I was breathing. The battle became a part of me, I lived and breathed the fight, the sword like a part of my soul. Not just a cold metal blade. A dragon reared up in front of me, fire shooting ten feet into the air from its ringed nostrils. I sidestepped as it swiped an immense clawed paw at me, moving in and stabbing a sword up into its eye. It reeled back, blood trickling down its face as it roared in agony. My stomach turned as I remembered seeing Derp with his face slashed open, blood pouring down from it. The memory filled me with hate and I went for the injured beast, slashing my bloody sword across its chest. It's still beating heart pumped the life and blood out of it and the beast went limp. I heard someone call my name and whipped round. Derp stood in a clearing of the battle, the dust from the deceased squids rushing up around him like fog. Blood splattered his clothes and dripped from his sword. The wild light of battle made insanity glisten in his crooked eyes. The thick knotted scar that traced its way down his face was beginning to fade. He'd never more beautiful to me. He grinned fiendishly. "C'mon! Seto needs our help taking a big dragon down!" As the words left his mouth I saw a giant tentacle reach for him and ran towards him, pushing him out the way as it slammed down on the ground, mere inches away from where he'd been standing. Talons slid out of it as the mutant squid pushed itself upwards, mouth gaping open, revealing yellowed teeth and blackened saliva. Derp stared at me in shock as it reared up behind me. I twisted round and reached inside its mouth, gagging on the stench of its breath as I did so. I grabbed its tongue and began to pull. The squid's eyes widened as it tried to pull away, only stretching its tongue further. A sickening squelching noise came from its mouth and I grabbed its tongue with both hands, pulling harder. The squid screeched in agony as it ripped free of its mouth. I instantly threw the still wriggling tongue on the ground and wiped my hands on my clothes. Derp's eyes widened as the squid stumbled away, blood pouring from its mouth. "That-" He said, "was amazing." I grinned. "Now where's that dragon you were talking about?"

We ran through the squid ranks, monsters dissolving left right and centre at the mere touch of our swords. Eventually, I saw a clearing in the invading army where Seto was fighting an enormous dragon in the middle of it. It's scales were midnight black and it's cavernous jaws were stretched wide open, flames rolling from its red maw. A massive spiked tail whipped around on the end of its body and it's wings stretched out for several feet on either side of it. It's blood red eyes sought me out in battle and it's huge head swivelled round to survey us. It opened its mouth even wider and roared, a sound that made a dinosaur's screech seem like a baby's gurgle. I backed away as Seto raised his hands, muttering curses under his breath as purple fire burst forth from his outstretched palms like blowtorches. Derp's crooked eyes narrowed as he gathered his courage and ran forward, diving and ducking under the dragon's curved claws as it swiped for him. I grit my teeth and set my jaw in determination before running after Derp. Seto saw us going for the dragon's side and tried to distract it, leaving that side un-defended. The dragon hissed and it's forked tongue flicked out of its mouth before whipping round and slamming its head into my side. I gasped in pain as my ribs cracked against its horned head, blood trickling out of the puncture in my skin caused by the mighty blow. Derp's eyes practically glowed with fury as he snarled viciously before running forward and swinging his sword into the dragon's head.

The iron blade sunk into the serpent's skull and it roared in fury before swinging its tail around. I tried to cry out a warning but I could taste blood in my mouth and my tongue was numb. I'd probably bitten it when the dragon had attacked me. Derp's crooked eyes widened a split second before the tail hit the back of his legs and his knees buckled. He hit the ground and instantly pain sprung through my lower legs. His were broken. I reached for him, Seto's eyes wide in shock and horror as he watched us, still trying to distract the dragon. The dragon snapped at him and he backed up, bringing it away from us. Derp grit his teeth in pain, his every move sending another spasm of agony through the both of us. He looked up at me and I could see his eyes misting over the pain was driving him into unconsciousness. "Shoulda...seen that coming." He managed to say before slumping to the ground, out cold. Now he'd blacked out, the pain had subsided in my legs, but my side was still bleeding profusely from the wounds the dragon's head had inflicted upon my ribs. I cast my gaze frantically around at the battle. Everywhere there was a writhing mass of tentacles and swords, gritted teeth and snarling jaws. About ten more dragons were being ridden by squids around us and a few more of the giant squids were amongst their army. Why now? I thought. Why now when they could've attacked before? How did they know we'd be weakened by our separation from the rest of SkyArmy? I growled. Diamond. She'd been the spy! Suddenly, I saw someone burst forth from the attack. His clothes were ripped and torn, frayed with blood round the edges and his bandanna was askew, but he was still unmistakable to me. He held a bloody stone sword in his hand he'd probably picked up from a fallen squid, as I noticed he'd lost his other sword from earlier.

"Lancey-" I gasped. "Help!" He took a quick look at what was going on behind us and his eyes widened. "Seto." He pointed to the sorcerer fending off the dragon behind us. I nodded. "Help me up and we'll help him." He smiled and offered me his hand. I took it and he grabbed my forearm with his other hand, pulling me to my feet. I sighed in relief. "Thanks dude, I owe you one." He blinked, tilting his head to one side. "Actually, I kinda stole your fiancé, so I'd say we're even." I snarled. "I don't care about Diamond, she lied to both of us." Lancey sighed, eyebrows knitted together, face sagging in defeat. "I know." He held out his hand to me again, but in a different gesture. "Maybe we can start over again?" I nodded, the beginnings of a smile twitching at they corners of my mouth as I took his hand and shook it. "Done. Now let's do this." We both whipped round as a defeating roar shook us both to the core. The dragon had pinned Seto down and was inches away from ending his life. "Hey!" I yelled, waving my hands in the air, ignoring the blatant agony burning through me from my ribs. "Pick on someone your own size!" The dragon slowly turned its horned head to stare me down, before removing its colossal paw from Seto's heaving chest and crouching down, crawling stealthily towards us, like a cat about to take down its defenceless prey. I nodded to Lancey and we split up, running around different sides of the dragon.

I scooped up Derp's lifeless body as I ran past, carrying him bridal style to where Seto was just struggling to get up. Lancey leapt up onto the dragon's back and plunged his sword into the scaly flesh. The dragon's spine arched as it threw up its head, roaring in pain. As I lay Derp down gently before Seto, his hands were already heating up with purple magic. Seto looked up and his brown eyes met my blue behind my shades. "This is gonna hurt a lot you know. I'm going to try to heal his scar too, which will be quite hard as he's had it for weeks now at least." I nodded. "Just heal him. Whatever it takes." Seto smiled before bowing his head, his eyes already shining a bright, luminous purple. I turned away, running over to Lancey. "I'm coming dude!" I dimly heard Seto cry out a warning but it was too late. I jumped up and flung myself at the dragon's side, climbing up to stand unsteadily on its back with Lancey. Lancey wrenched his sword out of the dragon's back for the fourth time as he looked up at me. "You go for the head. We kill its brain, we kill the body." I nodded and was about to move past him to the dragon's neck when a vicious spasm of pain struck me in the eyes. I went down on one knee, steadying myself. Then, my side suddenly erupted into a white hot pain, like fire lapping at my skin. I grit my teeth through the agony I was experiencing and twisted my head round, trying to see what Seto was doing. It was only then when I heard Derp's screams. They tore through me, creating a pain in their wake that hurt more than a thousand suns exploding in my vision.

Lancey realised what was happening and went to the dragon's head himself. I knew as the dragon died its muscles would be going into a spasm as it fought for survival. I raised my sword and plunged it into the thick scales beneath me, anchoring me to its body if it began to thrash around. I don't know if I'd hit a major nerve or something, but the second my sword hit bone beneath me, the dragon erupted into a fit of screaming. Lancey stumbled back away from its head, just remembering at the last minute to stab his sword viciously into the dragon's skull before clamping his hands over his ears. My eyes widened as the dragon began to die, thrashing violently beneath us. Lancey's feet began to slip off of its back and I stood, still clinging to my sword's hilt. "Lancey!" A searing bolt of pain tore through my legs and my knees buckled. "No-" Lancey's eyes widened a split second before he fell. I cried out and leapt forward, letting go of my sword, trying to grab his hand. The ripped skin and clothes on my side tore even more as they caught on the dragon's sharp scales. I yelped in pain and I just managed to grip Lancey's finger tips. His blue eyes were wide in panic and horror as my grip began to slip. If he fell, the dying dragon would surely crush the life out of him. The dragon spasmed again and I slipped, my grip loosening once more. My heart skipped a beat as I lost my grip altogether, both on the dragon and Lancey. We fell together, trying to get a grip on the dragon's scales as we fell. I hit the ground and the air rushed out of me. Lancey screamed as the dragon began to fall. It was going to kill us! Then, I felt strong hands grab my shoulders and pull me away just as the beast collapsed on the ground mere inches away from us. Seto pulled Lancey away as fast as he could, trying not to catch his sorcerer's robes beneath his scrabbling feet. I let my head drop back and found myself staring up at Derp's crooked eyes. Both were healed now and the ugly scar that had once deformed his face was now gone altogether. He grinned at me. "That was a close one. Good job Seto's an avid healer!" I sighed with relief as he let go of me. Having pulled us to safety, Seto and Derp helped me and Lancey to our feet. My side burned and I felt the warm blood running down over my torn skin. Derp looked at me with concern. "Seto..." My friend gently lay his hand on my side and I felt the healing magic rush through me. My legs felt strong again and my skin stitched together, the ribs cracking together, sealing the damaged cartilage and ligaments. Seto removed his hand and I could stand straight again. Lancey smiled weakly at me. "We're alive." I winked. "Not for long. The battle's not over yet!"

~Derp~

Finally, I was healed. My vision that had been impaired for so long was once more whole again. I took in the battle around us, savouring the detail in the concentration and determination etched on our friends' faces. Ssundee ran past me, heading back into the battle. I took a deep breath before following him. Seto's hands heated up once more with purple fire that least several feet into the air as he ran alongside me. I held my sword out before me, letting the light curve off it and bounce into the squid's eyes, blinding them. Ssundee scooped up a sword lying on the ground and blew the dust off it. My stomach clenched. "Ssundee...that's a golden sword..." Ssundee's eyes widened behind his sunglasses. Sky's sword. We skidded to a halt in the middle of the battle. I snarled at the squids closing in on us, lopping the tentacles off of any that got too close. I heard Lancey cry out and whipped round. He was holding a limp body in his arms. Cracked sunglasses, torn clothes, dirty gloves, chipped amulet. Sky. He suddenly jerked to life, a grimace spreading across his face as he took in his appearance, then the squids staring at us. His eyes narrowed and he squirmed as Lancey put him down. Sky jumped to his feet, going to draw his sword, and pausing, staring at Ssundee, who had it in his hand. "Um, I'm gonna need that." Ssundee passed it back to him and just as he stepped forward to attack, I heard an almighty roar sent goosebumps rippling over my skin and caused the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up. The roar was followed in quick succession by a deafening shriek. A shadow fell over us and I slowly turned round, my crooked eyes widening as I stared up at the enormous squid standing above us. It wasn't as big as the one that had given me my scar, but it wasn't far off. But that wasn't the worst thing. My gaze travelled upwards, reaching the squid's head. The entire battle froze and I swore I could hear everyone's hearts skip a beat. The person's stark, soulless eyes swept the battlefield before coming to rest heavily on our small company gathered at the foot of the monstrosity he stood upon. Herobrine smiled, a cold, evil smile. "And so it begins." He whispered momentously. And that was when everything started to go wrong.
