Chapter Ten

RECAP:

The sound of wolves howling brought me back to reality. My mind immediately thought up the worst reason as to why they would be out this late, and that reason was because they had found out that I was gone and had come searching for me. I began running as fast as my legs could carry me, hoping to loose them if they had already found my trail. Sadly, I didn't get very far before I tripped on a fallen tree landing face-down, reopening the wound on my leg. I rolled onto my back and glanced at my leg. The bandage had ripped, and the blood flowed freely from the wound. I tried to stand, but the pressure was far too great and I ended up laying back down, feeling myself begin to slip out of consciousness. I tried to stay awake as long as possible, but I was getting weaker and my eyelids were growing heavier by the second. I heard the nearing sound of howling and paws pounding on the ground before the darkness took over.

I awoke to the sensation of being carried, but by who, I wasn't sure. I hadn't opened my eyes yet, and frankly, I was afraid to do so. I didn't want to be greeted with the face of a giant, minotaur, or possibly even Jadis carrying me. Although, the arms didn't feel unusually large, like I assumed a giant's would, and they didn't feel hairy, like a minotaur's would. And they most certainly didn't feel ice-cold and frail like Jaids's would. No, these arms belonged to someone young, around my age. Their arms were firm, and strong, like I imagined a boy's arms would be. Then it suddenly dawned on me.

"Jonas," I murmured, allowing my eyes to open.

He shushed me almost immediately after I'd spoken. "I don't want to make it easier for them to follow us," he explained, "If they hear us, it'll only make it simpler for them."

At first I couldn't understand what he was talking about, until I became aware that Jonas was running, not walking, and I heard the all too familiar sound of wolves howling in the distance. I groaned.

"I had forgotten about them."

"I'm guessing you're mom discovered you were sneaking out if the palace to see me?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah," I sighed, "But you know you don't have to carry me, right? I mean, if you let me down and we split up, they'll come after me, and not you. You'll be safe."

His chest vibrated with faint laughter. "Uh, El?" he replied, using the nickname he had given me when we were little, "First of all, did you not realize that your leg has a gaping hole in it, and you wouldn't be able to stand-let alone run-if your life depended on it? Which, I might add, it possibly does?"

"Oh," I muttered. I guess that kind of slipped my mind.

"Second of all," he continued, "I wouldn't leave you in the face of danger to save my life."

What he said, right there, it made my heart melt. That's why I have a crush on him.

"Jonas?"

"Yeah?"

"Thank you. Not just for saving me today, but for saving me overall. You've always been my best friend, and that saved my life. I never would've been able to survive living in that palace if it weren't for you."

"You're welcome, El, but right now we don't need to worry about the heartwarming speeches. What we need to worry about is loosing those wolves."

Suddenly, I got an idea.

"I think I have a way we can do just that, but you have to trust me, okay Jonas?"

"Okay."

And suddenly, we began to fly.

*******

We landed at the Cauldron Pool, because I knew that would be the safest place for us to hide, seeing that it was in the middle of nowhere, and there was no use for it since the winter had begun, because it couldn't be used as a water source. luckily, no one ever really came to the Cauldron Pool in the first place, so even now that the winter had ended, it was still an extremely remote location.

My leg had still been bleeding, even as Jonas carried me, so his shirt was soaked in my blood. He ended up taking it off after he had laid me down on the grass beside the pool, and ripped off a clean strip to wrap my leg in. Before he used it, though, he dipped the rest of his shirt in the water and began to wash my wound to stop some of the bleeding. After he was finished, he took the extra strip of cloth and wrapped it tightly around my leg, but not so tight that it hurt.

We hadn't spoken a word since we arrived, and Jonas was the first to break the silence.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voiced laced with concern.

"I'm fine," I sighed, laying on my back to look at the sky.

"You're sure?" he pressed, following my actions and laying down beside me.

"Yes," I confirmed, placing my hand on top of his in a reassuring manner.

"Alright."

It was quite again for a few minutes, before I spoke up again.

"I've never seen the sky this color before."

Jonas turned on his side to face me, shock clearly etched on his face. "You've never seen a blue sky before?!"

I looked to my left so that our eyes locked. "Never," I answered, in all seriousness.

"Well, then I'm glad I got to be here when you experienced it for the first time," he smiled, causing butterflies in my stomach. I swear, his smile is contagious. Gosh, what is this boy doing to me?

I turned my attention back to the beautiful blue sky, pure white clouds scattering its surface. Jonas and I decided to find shapes in the clouds, and acted completely as if we weren't just running for our lives moments ago. As far as we knew now, it was just a normal day.

Greetings, fellow Narnians! It is I, Tiffani, aka @last_queen_of_narnia, having returned from a long vacation all over the northeast US!

Okay, so now that we've gotten that out of the way.... I'M BACK!!!! Sorry I didn't update though, for I did have time, but I was too lazy to update, so feel free to scold me in the comments, because I think I may deserve it. Although, when I was on Wattpad, I was reading this amazing Hunter Hayes fanfiction trilogy (if there's any Hayniacs out there, you might know what I'm talking about). But back to the point, which is: I was gone, but now I'm back and updating again! YAY!!!!

Also wanted to say, I have 5K reads on The White Witch's Daughter!!!! Thank you guys SO MUCH!!!!
