Chapter Nine

I have the worst life. EVER.

Okay, so I haven't left the house in twenty four hours, because my oh so wonderful mother (note the great amount sarcasm) has had her secret police keep me under constant watch. And by constant, I mean constant. There's always at least two wolves outside my door at all times (they even take shifts!) and four of them surround me every time I go downstairs to eat!

Anyway, I was laying on my bed when an idea suddenly hit me. I remembered the time Jonas had helped me to sneak into my room a few days ago, and realized I could do the same thing this time, only I would be sneaking out, not in, and I would have it make it seem like I was still there.

I finally came up with an idea. I was going to make an ice sculpture in my image, and with my powers, I could manipulate the colors of the ice, and create the illusion that the ice was breathing, so it would look like I was sleeping in my bed. Of course, there was a chance that I was leaving for good, so if I did, they would notice eventually that it was ice, but it would be long enough that I would be able to obtain enough distance between my location and the palace.

I was about to create my frosty-likeness (yep, that's what I'm gonna call it) when two wolves appeared in my doorway.

One wolf cleared his throat. "Elsa, there's something you need to know."

My brow furrowed in confusion. "What is it? What's wrong?"

The second wolf spoke up. "Maugrim.... Maugrim is dead."

I sucked in a breath. This couldn't be happening.

"No," I replied, my voice quavering, "No. You're lying to me, aren't you?"

"I assure you, Elsa, we're not lying."

When the reality finally hit me, I suddenly couldn't support my own weight any longer. My knees buckled, and I collapsed to the floor. I covered my mouth with my hand to soften the sound of my sobs, and saw my vision go blurry from the tears welling up in my eyes before streaming down my face. Aside from Jonas, Maugrim was my best friend. How could this happen?

After about five minutes, the tears slowed, and I looked back up at the two wolves, their expressions grim.

I stood up. "I need to speak with my mother." I stated before taking off down the halls.

*******

I ran up and down the halls for awhile before I decided to actually head towards the throne room. When I reached the entrance, I stopped. It was at that moment that I realized that no wolves had followed me. I began to hesitate. The throne room was just to my right, but to my left was the front gate, aka: my escape.

I looked around to make sure no one was watching. As soon as I was confident that the coast was clear, I bolted through the doors towards the Western Wood.

*******

I had been running for at least twenty minutes straight before I came to a clearing in the Western Wood. I stopped and stared at the sight in awe. What lay before me was the most unusual sight I had ever known. This was because, standing tall in the dead center of the clearing, was a lamppost. I looked around, only to see that the snow had completely melted. I gaped at all the amazing colors. The vivid green of the grass, the soft pink of the blossoms in the trees, and the bright oranges and yellows of the flowers that covered the ground made me want to freeze that moment in time so I could stay right here, right at this very second forever, because now that I had experienced the wonder of spring, I never wanted to go back.

The sound of wolves howling brought me back to reality. My mind immediately thought up the worst reason as to why they would be out this late, and that reason was because they had found out that I was gone and had come searching for me. I began running as fast as my legs could carry me, hoping to loose them if they had already found my trail. Sadly, I didn't get very far before I tripped on a fallen tree landing face-down, reopening the wound on my leg. I rolled onto my back and glanced at my leg. The bandage had ripped, and the blood flowed freely from the wound. I tried to stand, but the pressure was far too great and I ended up laying back down, feeling myself begin to slip out of consciousness. I tried to stay awake as long as possible, but I was getting weaker and my eyelids were growing heavier by the second. I heard the nearing sound of howling and paws pounding on the ground before the darkness took over.

Hello, readers! Sorry for the wait, but this week has been pretty busy for me. I've been volunteering to work with the little kids all this week at my church's VBS (vacation bible school; we call it cross-training, though), which means that I had to go to bed early and get up even earlier to get there on time, plus I helped clean up afterwards, and I helped set up before it started, so you can imagine that I was really tired when I got home. That, and I've also been working on painting my room, and even though the walls are done, this week I was painting my bookshelf, so my arms were tired after holding the paintbrush up to get the back of the shelf. Anyway, I'm going to stop complaining to you guys now, and I'm going to get to the point I've been trying to make, which was: I haven't updated because I've been extremely busy this week. So thank you for your patience, because you're probably going to need it again for the next two weeks. Why, you ask? I'll tel, you why: my aunt is a nanny for a little boy, and his brother has a different nanny (I know, I don't get it either) but they either fired that nanny, or she quit, I can't remember. Anyway, my aunt and the family are going to Cleveland, then Baltimore, then back to Boca Raton (it's in Florida) and they need someone to help my aunt take care of the kids for the next two weeks, so even if they have wifi, I'll be pretty busy again, so I don't know if I'll be able to update. Okay, wow, that was long, but I hope it explained everything. So, in the next two weeks, I'll try to update, but I'm not guaranteeing that I'll be able to. Alright, I'm done now. Bye!
