Chapter Five
The next day, I was walking by the throne room when I saw a son of Adam standing before my mother. He had dark hair and dark eyes, and looked to be about ten years old. It sounded like my mother called him Edward, but I wasn't sure.
"Are your sisters deaf?" my mother asked.
"No." the boy seemed to smile.
"And your brother, is he," she paused, "Unintelligent?"
"Well I think so," he replied, "But mother thinks that-"
"THEN HOW DARE YOU COME ALONE!" The harshness of her voice was one I had never heard before. It frightened me.
"I tried-"
"I asked so little of you."
"But they didn't listen to me!"
"Couldn't even do that."
He stuttered. "I did bring them halfway. They're at the little house in the dam. With the beavers!"
There was silence for a moment. Then my mother spoke.
"Well, I suppose you're not a total loss then, are you?" he turned around to sit in her throne.
"Well, I-I, I was wondering," the boy took a few steps forward, "C-Could I, maybe, have some more Turkish delight now?" Turkish delight? What was that all about?
Mother turned to Ginabrik. "Our guest is hungry."
Ginabrik walked up to the boy. "This way," he growled, pulling out his dagger, "For your num-nums!" He led the boy out of the room, his dagger on his back. It looked like they were headed towards the dungeon.
"Maugrim," my mother called, "You know what to do."
Maugrim howled, calling all the wolves in mother's secret police. They all ran full-speed out of the palace. I took that chance to run up to my room and look out the window. Maugrim and the other wolves were headed in the direction of the Western Woods, growling, panting, and howling the whole way.
I had a bad feeling about this. I felt like something completely horrible was about to happen. So I followed them.
*******
When I got to the beavers dam, no one was there, and the place was completely destroyed. The windows were broken, the door was opened, and there were holes in the walls, roughly the size of wolves. Books, food, and other assorted items scattered the floor, knocked down by the wolves. A candlestick was knocked over, but the light hadn't gone out, and it was starting to burn the wooden floor. I stepped on it, smothering the flame.
Then I turned and noted been trap door in the floor. I was about to follow it, but I realized that I should be heading back to the palace. I decided that I would come back tomorrow. This time with a candle.
Another update!
Anyway, this was probably the only time that I will add a part that follows the movie. Sorry if there are any lines that I worded wrong. Either way, I hope you liked the chapter! Thank you, my lovely readers! XD
