(Volume 5) Chapter 5: A Young Fluttering Heart

You:"SOPHIE!?" You finally yell as you look at her in shock

Sophie/You:"HOW ON REMNANT DID YOU GET HERE!?" You both pause for a split second and you motion her to talk first

Sophie:"W-well after I went and left on the airship I tried contacting you, ONLY to realize that all communications were down. Once we landed at the safe zone I followed this girl in all black for a good long while, my skills as a White Fang made me nearly undetectable...uuunnnttttiiilll she found me not even 5 minutes after following her. BUT it turned out she was a Faunus and an ex member of the White Fang herself. She said she knew you, so we both helped each other till we got to the docks." Aaaannd you realize the moody dark Faunus she's talking about...

You:"Gonna take a good guess and say this was Blake?" She nods

Sophie:"Yeah...oh uh, after I heard that she was going to Menagerie I knew I couldn't keep following so we said our farewells and I started wandering...for a gooodd long while."

You:"So, you're telling me you went through the pain of traversing all of Mistral to get to Haven? Alone no less?"

Sophie:"Well of course I didn't walk, that's the most dangerous and stupidest thing, not to mention that would've taken months unless you're some freak with immense speed. I took an airship,Used up all the money you gave me in order to get on the airship, but hey it worked. I went to Haven to see if I could find any information on the White Fang, since I feel like since the White Fang was behind the fall of Beacon, they weren't going to end there. And that's my story" You...still are thinking about the walking thing...

You:"Pssh, y-yeah who would WALK all the way to Haven. Ha ha...he....." Sophie looks at you confused, her bunny ears perked up

Sophie:"Well...how'd you get here then?" Uh-oh

You:"I uh...walked...here..." Sophie looks at you disappointed... "HEY I DIDN'T PLAN ON IT! MY GIRLFRIEND KINDA DID IT WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE!"

Sophie:"How'd she do it with out your knowledge? Not like you were in a coma or anything."

You:"Weeeeeeellll."

Sophie:"Oh dear Gods you were in a coma weren't you?" You nod slowly "You're gonna have to explain this to me, where's your brother Raiden by the way?" You sigh

You:"That's...a long story, it the reason why I was in a coma and why he's...gone."

Sophie:"Did...he die?"

You:"I'll explain the whole thing back inside." You open the door as everyone is huddled by the door, not expecting this they all fall over themselves before quickly getting up and whistling as if nothing happened.

You:"WELL AS YOU CAN SEE THIS IS MY TEAM!" You yell annoyed.

Ruby:"Well, it's not like you made that conversation outside real hidden as y'all were yelling!"

You:"Well..." You look back to see Sophie's confused face and you look back to all of them, except for Oz...Oscar who seems to have gone somewhere else at the moment, maybe getting an icepack for that fall from the chair... "THIS is Sophie." You gesture for her to come closer, as she seems more confused than a Beowolf on roller skates at a carnival...that was a weird date to the carnival with Ruby...who...immediately took our her Scythe and decapitated the poor thing...moving on

Ruby:"Aw, hi! I'm Ruby Rose!" She says giving a small salute to her

Nora:"Nora Valkyrie!"

Ren:"Lie Ren."

Jaune:"And I'm Jaune Arc." Sophie seems a little less confused

Sophie:"H-hello."

You:"Wait where Oscar?"

Oscar:"Right here." He says coming in from the kitchen with an ice pack on his head

You:"Ah, say hello to Soph-" You glance back at her to see that she's blushing immensely at Oscar.

(Meanwhile in Sophie's Head)

Sophie(Mind):"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!" I screech as I see the living personification of cuteness in my life, he struts over to me elegantly, a rose in his mouth, a dash of love in his eyes. He slightly bows as his elegance swoons over me.

Oscar(Deep,MAAAANNNNLLLYYYY voice):"Shall I wisk you away, miss Unmei?" He takes my hand and twirls me before leaning me back. He gets out a present, it opens itself as a Engine on a Stick appears (That's for my commentators), a wedding ring on the tip of it. "For you my madam, will you be mine forev-"

I snap out of my dream as (F) has his hand on my shoulder, introducing me

(Back to your POV)

You:"THIS is Sophie."

Oscar:"Oh, well Oscar Pine, nice to meet you Miss Sophie." You just barely manage to hear a tiny squeal from Sophie...well...that's an interesting development.

You:"Well uh...she used to be part of the White Fang, she knew about the attack on Beacon and tried to relay it on to me, but by then it was too late but like us she believed that one day Haven will be attacked. I don't know but I believe that we should recruit her as well...what do you say Ozpin?" A flash of green goes over Oscar

Ozpin:"Hmm...well, Miss Sophie, do you have any evidence that may assist us?"Sophie looks at him, REALLY surprised over the fact that Oscar's tone of voice changed

Sophie:"I uh...I believe so, yes."

Ozpin:"Well it'd be too dangerous to let an ex member of the White Fang to be found by an active member, especially one that has information to share. So you may join us if you wish to." Another flash of green goes over Oscar, Oscar's back in control

Ruby:"Well...I guess that means we...have to fill her in on...everything?" Aaannd now you realize that's gonna take a VERY good long while

You:"Ugh...let me handle that, Ruby you can help if you want to..." Ruby shrugs

Ruby:"Oh...sure!"

(A good 2 hours later of explaining)

You:"Soooo....you understand everything?" Sophie's sitting on the couch where Oscar was as you and Ruby are sitting at her side.

Sophie:"...So...Raiden stabbed you and left you, Oscar's soul is intertwined with a person who is thousands of years old who was ALSO the Headmaster of Beacon, something about Relics, some evil chick named Salem, she wants you because you're Chronicle, they want Ruby for something about her eyes, AND The Man in the Cloak is hunting you...did I get that all correct?"

Ruby:"Well uh...other than some of the details...YOU DID GREAT!" Ruby gives her a thumbs up as Sophie places her hands against her head, seemingly absorbing all the information

Sophie:"Well...jeez..."

You:"Yeeeeaaaahhh it's a lot, ain't it?" Ruby tugs on your shoulder

Ruby:"W-well uh...it seems like you need time to process all of this so uh...y-yeah, (F) can I talk to you for a minute?" This....doesn't seem good as she forcefully pulls you up out of the chair and out of the living room, toward your room. She forces you in the room and oh so delicately closes the door...there's a bit of silence...

You:"Soo....I-"

Ruby:"WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?" She yells, you weren't expecting the sudden burst of anger

You:"The-I-Wha-!?"

Ruby(Mimicking your voice):"OH LOOK AT ME, I'M CHRONICLE, NO RULES APPLY TO ME, I CAN BRING IN RANDOM KIDS AND PUT THEM AT RISK OF BEING KILLED, BOW DOWN AND KISS MY FEET!" Ruby looks at you angrily

You:".......Well first off that was a horrible interpretation of me." Ruby groans

Ruby:"YOU KNOW THAT'S NOT THE POINT. IF WE WANTED INFORMATION ON THE WHITE FANG COULDN'T WE HAVE- OH I DON'T KNOW- SEND HER A MESSAGE ASKING FOR THE INFORMATION AND NOT HAVING TO RISK ADDING SOMEONE ELSE IN THE CIRCLE!"

You:"WELL WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE HER BE KILLED BY WHITE FANG MEMBERS WHO RECOGNIZES HER!?"

Ruby:"WELL I'D RATHER HER BE SAFE WITH HER FAMILY THAN HAVING TO BE ON THE CONSTANT LOOK OUT OF HAVING TWO FREAKS WHO USE THE POWER OF A MYSTICAL SERPENT, THE PSYCHO WHO NEARLY KILLED BOTH YOU AND QROW, THAT INSANE WOMAN WHO LED TO THE DEATH OF PENNY AND KILLED PYRRHA RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, SALEM, AND WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO ELSE SHE HAS IN HER INFLUENCE!"

You:"OH LISTEN HE-" The door to your room opens and you and Ruby speed over to different sides of the room, pretending as if nothing happened, you are currently 'reading' a book...that is both upside down and backwards, Ruby is drinking a cup of coffee...with no coffee...and is upside...Qrow enters the room, very tired.

Qrow:"Okay, you both need to tone it down, I could hear you both shouting from outside the house. Now imagine your friends INSIDE the house..." You slowly look past him to see Jaune, Nora, Ren, Oscar, and Sophie all huddled up behind Qrow. "Listen, I already talked it over with our...new guest and she's perfectly fine, BUT you two yelling isn't going to make things any easier. Ruby, I understand your concerns but I've learned that one, Sophie does not have a family to go back to, and two, we need as much help as possible in this battle with Salem. And (F), next time you want to 'invite' someone to our group let us know beforehand or else we're going to have more shouting fits and nobody wants those......now could we all go to sleep, my head's killing me and I need another drink." Qrow walks out and you see the rest of the group scatter as he closes the door behind him. You and Ruby slowly look at each other, Ruby still seems a bit angry as she grabs her pajamas and leaves the room to go change...well...you're going to apologize later...you sigh as you exit, Oscar is still by the door, watching Ruby leave.

You:"Hey Oscar." Oscar didn't expect you and jumps just a bit. "You need something?" Oscar stammers for a bit before calming down

Oscar:"So...what was that fight back there about?" You sigh

You:"Just...a couple's dispute is all..." Oscar looks at you confused

Oscar:"What do you mean?"

You:"Well fights break out from time to time, just a part of relationships I guess."

Oscar:"Wait...you and Ruby...are dating?"

You:"Hmm? Oh yeah, been dating since our time in Beacon, first year anniversary passed a couple months back. Why do you ask?" Oscar sighs looking down...ooooh....OOOOOOHHHHHHH "Oooohh....you uh...like her...don't you?" Oscar looks up at you surprised.

Oscar:"I-I didn't say that!" You laugh a bit, placing a hand on his shoulder

You:"You don't have to, it's in the way you stare at her, hell I've only known you for...what a few hours? And it's quite clear...it's because I used to look at her the exact same way when I first met her...she's quite a gal...but........you know......she's.....taken..." You sigh "I...I'm not the best when it comes to relationships, I'm honestly surprised I've made it this far with her with all the slip ups I've made. But I can tell you one thing, something I told a friend of mine a while back...focusing on one girl and what could've been, is only going to make you miss out on someone who is truly special." You...still remember that dance and saying that to Jaune, still grieving over being rejected yet again by Weiss...you wish that Jaune would've acted sooner... "Well...I'm sorry bud, but that's all I can offer, have a nice night Oscar." You ruffle his hair as you enter into your room again, before you do you hear Oscar sigh...well...obviously a hurting heart will not heal instantly......gah...you feel bad...but hey...maybe he'll hit things off with Sophie...you Conjure your pajamas and change into them.

A while later you see Ruby enter the room with those adorable pajamas she always had, haven't seen those in a while. Ruby's...still...pissed as she looks at you sternly.

You:"Well...you haven't worn those in ages." Ruby narrows her eyes as she gets in the bed. "I...can see you're still mad with me..." You sigh as you turn off the lights and get in the bed along side her. Ruby's not facing you, silent...

Luna:"YOU BETTER APOLOGIZE HUN!"

You(Mind):"B-BUT SHE'S-!"

Luna:"NO BUTS! DON'T YOU KNOW THAT THE WOMAN IS ALWAYS RIGHT IN THE RELATIONSHIP!?"

You(Mind):"C-Cole back me up here!"

Cole:"......I had a wife, I've never won an argument in our 22 years of marriage. Take that as you will."

You(Mind):"Alright, alright." You breathe in sharply and exhale slowly

You:"I'm sorry...I should've asked you guys before I brought someone into our group. But I wasn't thinking...I just...wanted her to be safe, you know?" You place your hand on Ruby's side. Ruby takes your hand off of her side as she turns to face you, she...doesn't looked pissed but she looks tired

Ruby:"Except...she's probably in more danger with us then she would ever be anywhere else. And yes, I know she used a to be a member of the White Fang, but so was Blake, they never found her UNTIL she started purposely looking for them. So Sophie would've been safe here in Haven, there aren't nearly as many reports of the White Fang here than there was in Vale. I'm just...confused because I know you're usually the first one to notice when a plan doesn't seem safe for the Team and this...isn't like you." Ruby exhales sharply as she takes your hand "I'm sorry I overreacted and stirred up a fight but...I was worried for her, I didn't want to drag an innocent girl to an operation that can kill her...and now we've got more work to do since it doesn't seem like she's a really good fighter. But I'm trusting you (F), she seems to like you so she's gonna be looking up to you for advice, so you better be ready to know what it's like having a little sister."

You:"Well if Yang has taught me anything is that pushing someone into the deep end of the pool to get someone to learn how to swim, is that placing someone in a tough situation is very effective." Ruby hits you in the chest lightly before cuddling up to you.

Ruby:"You jerk, she told you that story?" You rest your arm around her waist as she rests her head up below yours

You:"Well we had a lot of time on our hands, and I know a bunch of embarrassing stories from your past, can't wait to tell everyone muahahaha. But we best be heading to sleep, lotta stuff to do tomorrow."

Ruby:"Yeah, love you, you jerk." She hits your arm lightly before she gives you a small peck on the lips.

You:"Pssh, love you too little miss 'I ran around the house proclaiming herself as the peanut butter cookie queen with Zwei as a crown before he peed on your head'" Ruby groans as she buries her face in your chest

Ruby(Slightly muffled) :"Oh God the smell wouldn't wash out of my hair for weeks..." You laugh a little as Ruby does the same, before you both slowly drift off to sleep

(The next day)

It's...early, everyone had to pull you away from the breakfast table because 'eating 14 plates of scrambled eggs is not wise before a training session' well maybe if someone or SOMETHING DIDN'T CHOOSE YOU TO HAVE A GIGANTIC LEVIATHAN AND A KING LIVE IN YOUR SOUL MAYBE YOU WOULDN'T EAT AS MUCH, LIKE YOU KNOW WHEN THERE'S A LOT OF FOOD ON A TABLE AND THEY SAY 'IT'S A FEAST FIT FOR A KING!?' WELL I DON'T THINK THE KING JUST NIBBLES ON THE FOOD...speaking of training, which is kind of more important than breakfast but you are about to spar against Jaune at the moment, mano a mano...no semblance though, it'd be...really unfair to Jaune.

You:"Hey uh, don't hold back!" Jaune smirks...you realize just how tall Jaune is...well compared to you at least. (Jaune: ~6'1, You: ~5'7)

Ruby:"KNOCK SOME SENSE INTO HIM, JAUNE!!!" Ruby's...still...just a tad bit angry with you, considering the fact that you told everyone about the time when she ate a slug that was in her yard, anyways Jaune looks at her confused, he shrugs when he looks back at you.

You and Jaune dash at each other, Jaune immediately comes in with a right cross, you dodge underneath, grab his arm and throw him on the ground, Jaune wastes no time as he grabs your leg while on the ground and knocks you off balance, You roll backwards to get on your knees as Jaune's already back on his feet, you get back up as well, you and Jaune circle around each other a bit before you jump at him with a barrage of kicks, Jaune blocks them before mustering his strength and hitting you back, jeez you fly back and knock into a tree as you slide down it

Jaune:"Oooh...you alright?"

You(In pain):"Yeah."

You dust yourself off, what he lacks in speed he more than makes up for in strength, You pop your neck and get in your fighting stance again, Jaune shrugs before running at you and slides to take out your feet, you jump over and right before you land Jaune swings his leg at your side, you slide back and run back at Jaune while he's getting up, Jaune grabs your arm while you run straight at him, you planned for this as you get close and shoulder him in the face, he lets go of your arm from the knock back but before he could get away you spin around and axe kick him downwards. Jaune goes onto his knees in pain before sending his foot straight up at your chin, you fly back pretty far and land on your back, you're starting to become out of breath, you get up slowly as Jaune's already up, also a bit out of breath, you approach him and Jaune bursts at you swinging his right arm back and hitting you right in the jaw, you use the recoil of the hit to spin and swing your arm right into the side of his face, Jaune musters all of his strength and hits you right in your bad arm, you get blown back by the shockwave from the hit and get slammed into another tree, hitting it right against your bad arm as well, you gasp in shock as your eyes water at the waves of pain that seemingly get worse after every passing second. You hold it in pain, your hand is twitching and shaking which makes it much worse on the pain. You look up at Jaune to see that he's on the ground, out of breath. He slowly gets up and goes towards you, he extends his hand, you try to extend your bad arm, you immediately regret it as the pain spikes as you groan at the pain, you try curling your bad hand into a fist and holding it at your chest and extend your good one instead. Jaune takes it and pulls you up off the ground

Jaune:"You alright man?" You breathe out slowly, and very slowly you place your bad arm back at your side, uncurling your fist as your arm trembles badly.

You:"I'll be fine." As the pain seemingly begins to pass you chuckle "That was one hell of a fight you put up. Nice job." Jaune smirks

Jaune:"You did great as well, sorry about the arm though."

You:"Nah, it's fine." You give him a trembling thumbs up with your right hand. Jaune nods as you two head back.

Ren:"Nice match you two."

Nora:"Ugh, there were no flashy effects, BORING!" Ren looks at Nora with a 'really' look on his face "Ugh, but you both did alright I guess." You try to do another thumbs up with your bad arm, but the pain spikes again as you flinch while you cradle your arm with your left hand. Ruby and Sophie see this as they go over to you

Ruby:"Is...your arm going to be alright?" She takes your arm very carefully and looks at it ever trembling in her hands. Sophie examines it closely

You:"I'll be fine. The enemy isn't going to care if I have an injury or not." Oscar approaches as his eyes flare green

Ozpin:"Quite right Mr. (L). You must make sure that it isn't apparent that you have any sort of weakness to the enemy, whether it's physical or emotional, they will exploit and from then on you are on the defensive, and it is no longer as much of a fight as it is survival."

Cole:"Again Ol' Ozzy's advice is very informative."

Luna:"Hah! You had your butt handed to you!"

You(Mind):"Real helpful, Luna."

Luna:"What? As a mommy-viathan I need to give you support."

You(Mind):"The freak's a 'mommy-viathan' ? Also how is that support?"

Luna:"Mother-Leviathan? Also it's support so that you don't suck later, so don't suck and I won't make fun of you."

Ozpin:"Now then, you both already know what needs to be fixed, Jaune, you're immensely strong but you have no control over your swings and after a while you have no technique, and (F) you cannot allow your injury to hinder how a battle plays, You are a very well rounded fighter with multiple techniques but if you're not thinking clearly than you've already lost. Now then let's move onto some other matches, Sophie, how about you go up against Ruby." Oooh that's gonna be fun.

A few matches with Sophie later...you've...realized that Sophie is actually a pretty damn good fighter, she's very slick and tends to jump all around an opponent to confuse them before finishing them off in the confusion, but she's very lacking when it comes to actual fighting, she tends to try to jump away from head on fights and tries to place the odds in her favor...well now the current match is Oscar versus Ruby, aaaaannddd...they're both aren't very good with hand to hand it seems...

Jaune:"Man, Oz wasn't kidding. Oscar's picking up on this stuff fast." Oscar hits Ruby straight in her face. Ruby falls back from the blow aaaaannd she seems pissed. Oscar now realizes he's in for it...

Oscar:"Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry!" Oscar yells, uh oh, Ruby hits Oscar back and flies back from the hit, you can feel the pain as you, Nora, and Jaune wince

Ruby:"Ha! Yes! I did it!" She pauses from her beating up a small boy to actually take notice that she beat up a small boy "Oscar?"

Oscar:"Why didn't you tell me?" He says...you guess Ozpin's giving him advice the way Luna gives you advice? Well you bet Ozpin's a lot better with advice than Mo-...Luna. Oscar groans and gets to his feet. Oscar stiffens briefly while his eyes flare in a yellow light....Oh crapbaskets

Ozpin:"Not bad, Miss Rose. But Oscar doesn't have the years of training that you do. Or I do." Oscar's body shimmers green as Ozpin engages his or...Oscar's or...THEIR AURA. Oh mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell Ruby's gonna die...Ozpin approaches Ruby.

Ruby(nervously):"Oh, ha, well, maybe we should uh... take a break." Ozpin attacks Ruby punching at her head, she goes onto the defensive until he lands a blow right at her face which knocks her back several feet. Ozpin wastes no time whatsoever as he closes the gap with a leap and kicks her in the face. Ruby leaps at Ozpin to throw a left cross which Ozpin evades by ducking and then headbutting from below.

You:"Oooh that's gonna hurt."

Nora:"Ouch."

Ozpin:"The next time you want to throw a left cross, remember to push off with the appropriate foot. And as always, do be aware of any openings."

Ruby(strained):"Gooooot it." She says as she sits up Ozpin releases his control as green flares over Oscar as Oscar falls to the ground, panting.

Ruby:"Oh! Hey. Are you okay?"

Oscar:"How is this so exhausting?"

Ren:"Your body isn't used to this kind of training, not to mention generating a defensive Aura on your own. It takes intense concentration at first, but in time it will become second nature, allowing you to deflect attacks and gradually heal your wounds. After that, you can begin focusing on your Semblance, whatever that may be."

Oscar:"Semblance?" Ooooh he doesn't know what a Semblance is...

Nora:"You know! Like your very own superpower! Everybody's got one. It's just a matter of finding it and mastering it. Ruby moves super fast, Electricity makes me stronger, Ren can mask emotions, (F) has...things and Jaune ... can, uh, um. Hmm."

Jaune:"I can't do anyth-"

Ruby:"Jaune's like you!" Ruby quickly says taking Oscar by the hand and leads him over to Jaune. Also JEEZ THE HEIGHT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SMOL BOY OSCAR AND JAUNE

Ruby:"He hasn't found his Semblance yet, but we all know he will. And you will, too. We all just have to try and help each other get stronger."

Oscar:"Cool."

Ren:"A common philosophy is that a warrior's Semblance is a part of who they are. Some say your personality and character can define your Semblance while some claim that it is the other way around. Of course, there are still many who don't see a connection at all."

Nora:"It's hard to know when you know sometimes. Ren's Semblance was unlocked from intense stress."

Ruby:"And mine kicked in during training one day."

Sophie:"Running from cops." ...The freak is Sophie's Semblance?

Oscar:"And what about you?" He says to Nora

Nora:"Oh. Struck by lightning. Didn't die. Craaaazy Thursday."

Oscar:"And you?" He points to you.

You:"Mine's a Hereditary thing but uh...let's just I'm a special case."

Oscar:"What do you mean? What do you do?"

Ruby:"Eh...a lot of things, he's this thing called Chronicle so he has the powers of a Mystical Leviathan in him but he has more access to it than his brother and his family which give him the ability to Conjure, Warp, and other cool stuff."

Oscar:"Brother?" Ruby realizes her error

Ruby:"O-oh! Uh, his brother isn't...around...anymore so we don't really talk about him often." You breathe out slowly

Oscar:"O-oh I'm sorry I aske-"

You:"Let's just move on."

Jaune:"I just don't understand what's wrong with me. I train. I meditate." Oscar's eyes glow as Ozpin takes control of his body yet again...you're so glad Cole and Luna can't do that........can they?

Ozpin:"Don't worry, Mr. Arc. Your journey is far from over. And the same might be said for all of you. Unlocking your Semblance isn't the end. It can still grow and evolve. Providing you're willing to put in the work, who knows what could happen."

Ruby:"Then let's get back to it." Ruby smiles as you breathe in sharply, still have a long way to go.
