It was the day of the reaping as I had mentioned before and all of district 12 was heading to town square. The Everdeen family has just arrived and got in their places when they started to begin the reaping. The video plays just like it does every year...

When the video ends, Effie Trinket begins to speak into the microphone " Happy Hunger Games!! And may the odds be ever in your favor." Most of the people there know exactly what she is going to say, because she says the same thing every year. " As usual, lady's first" she walks over to one of the big, clear bowls and puts a hand inside, feels around and finally grabs one, then walks back over to the mic and reads the name aloud. " And for the girl tribute..... Katniss Everdeen!!" As the words come out of Effie's mouth Katniss's heart begins to sink deep in her chest, and as soon as her entire name is read everyone turns towards her to make a clear path way for her to walk to the front. She goes up on the platform and everything becomes very silent for her, even though Effie is talking about how it is a great honor to be chosen, all that Katniss can see is the sad face of her older sister Prim who can do nothing to help her. After that Effie walks to the opposite side of the platform where the boys bowl was, reached inside and pulls out another paper just like the one that Katniss's name was on." And for the boys.... Joseph Mellark!! ". Everyone on the boys side made a pathway just like they had done for Katniss. "he looks to be around 12 or so" thought Katniss when he came into view. But just as she thought that, there was a yell and pushing on the boys side as if someone was trying to get through
Then she see's him it's Peeta Mellark Joseph's older brother. " I volunteer!! I volunteer as tribute..." Peeta yells, everything goes silent " It has been decades since we have had a volunteer..." announces Effie as the peacekeepers escort Peeta to the platform, Joseph is trying to be as brave as he can. Peeta walks up the steps with a shocked kind of look on his face, and stands to the opposite side of Effie. " Give a round of applause for district 12 tributes for the 74th hunger games!!!!" Everyone gives an emotionless clap as Effie motions for us to shake hands, as we walk forward towards each other our hands clasp and we shake " his hands are strong and warm with a little bit of sweat, I am assuming to be from nervousness, because mine are too." Katniss thinks in her head. Once the shake is over we turn to the still emotionless clapping crowd, panem's anthem begins and ends then we are escorted to the justice hall building where we are put in separate rooms to say a quick good bye to family and friends.
