Twenty-Four

"I'm not sending you another picture." I groaned over the phone as Miranda begged for me to send her the tenth photo of my outfit. I looked in the mirror over the long sleeve red dress. It hugged my curves perfectly, making me look like I actually had assets. My heart was racing, I tried to look my best, but that was hard when you didn't know who you were dressing for. My long brown hair was draping over my shoulders in loose curls, the one side pulled and twisted tied neatly behind my head.

My lips were covered in a dark red lipstick to match my dress, but that was all I wore for makeup. I couldn't believe the day was finally here. I was finally going to meet my Secret Santa. After all the wonderful gifts he had given me. I reached for the bottle of perfume I had received the night before. Spritzing a little bit of the liquid before placing it back on the counter.

I wondered which man it would be. Would it be Kyle, Eric, Jonathan? My mind raced with all the opportunities. Would I be happy with the date, would it be decorated nicely or would it be an awkward encounter?

"Earth to Amber..." I heard Miranda on the other end of the phone. I shook my head not realizing I had zoned out.

"Sorry, i'm listening."

"Are you okay? You seem really out of it." Miranda questioned, very obvious concern in her voice. I nodded quickly realizing she couldn't see that.

"Yes, hey I got to go though. I don't want to be late. I will send you pictures if I can." I mumbled before quickly hanging the phone up. I took a seat in my makeup chair. My head fell to the desk as I let out a muffled scream into the wood. I was freaking out. I didn't do well with surprises and right now I had no clue what I was walking into.

I raised my head looking over at the clock. It was half an hour past four. I needed to get heading to the park if I wanted to be there on time. My phone was blowing up with angry texts from Miranda warning me not to ever hang up on her like that again. I ignored them but my phone kept buzzing. I placed it on silent before heading out of my apartment. I decided to hail a cab instead of walking. Once I was out of my building I took the needed steps to the edge of the sidewalk throwing my hand in the air, waiving for a cab. Thankfully one pulled over almost immediately. I jumped in, kicking my shoes off before closing the door behind me. Music played softly over the stereo as I told him where I needed to go.

My head was resting against the window as I watched all the people buzzing around. The building passing by in the stop and go traffic. I watched the parents trying to keep track of their kids in the crowds. All the families holding hands and they left the Christmas services at the church. I mindlessly hummed the tune trying to focus on anything other than the growing pit in my stomach. I hadn't realized how nervous I was. I should have ate before I left so I didn't feel so sick. I wasn't sure what we were doing. Would he have food?

Who was he?

The cab driver yanked to the side of the road forcing me to nearly bash my head against the window. I let out a sigh handing him money for the ride. Hopping out of the car I closed the door behind me. I stopped on the side of the road looking up at the gates in front of me. The beautiful metal archway read 'Central Park'. I took a few steps forward before pulling my phone out of my pocket to check the time.

4:55pm

I walked down the pathway slowly towards the fountain as I contemplated if I should empty my already starved stomach in the bushes or not. My nerves had me walking at such a snail's pace, I wasn't sure if I would make it another twenty feet in the next five minutes.

I tried to remind myself to breathe. I felt like I was going to pass out from the lack of oxygen in my body, maybe it was lack of food. Whatever it was it wasn't good. I took a few more steps looking around the park. There wasn't a sign of anything. I began to panic that I was in the wrong spot. I pulled the note out of my pocket reading over it once more.

I had done everything it said. I was here. I searched around waiting for a flash mob or something insane to appear out of nowhere. I closed the distance between the fountain and myself. As I got closer I noticed there was a blonde girl. She was shouting something but I wasn't quite sure what she had said. A large paper was held in her hand, on it the words Amber Lott were written in beautiful green and red script. I smiled.

I had no clue who this girl was but she sure lightened the mood a little. The smile on her face growing as I got closer.

"Hey Amber, how are you?" The blonde girl questions placing the card down next to her. She stood up reaching her hand out for me to shake it. I removed my hand from my pocket before shaking hers.

"Good, and you?" I felt like this was more awkward now that I had stood here for a few seconds. She turned taking a few steps around the fountain before stopping to look back at me.

"Are you coming?" I looked around at all the people unaware of what was going on. Was she my date? I followed her around the fountain as she led me towards a picnic bench. She stopped halfway before the bench waving her hand towards the masterpiece. My heart lept when I saw all the decorations. I took a few staggered steps before walking to the table decorated with a red table cloth. Candles and green leaves covered the middle of it, and there were two silver domes resting on each side. Next to it was a little stool that held another present perfectly wrapped in red paper and a green bow, just like the others. I could feel my face getting warm as I walked closer to the table. I could smell the food, making my mouth water. My stomach growled in response. I took a seat on the bench looking at the decorations. There was a note sitting delicately on the table. I picked up reading the words on the front.

Amber Lott

I could feel myself growing with excitement for the note. But as I looked around I still couldn't figure out who it was. There were no clues other than the girl who had now disappeared. I glanced around trying to figure out where she had disappeared. I turned back to the note eager to finally open it up.

Day 12

It's finally here

Your twelve days of Christmas is finally up.

Are you wondering who I am...

Everything I have done I've done for you.

Really, you should believe me when I say that.

It's been lots of work trying to...

Celebrate everything with you.

If you pay attention this note tells you exactly who I am

But if you are patient you will soon see

Just smile

Because you truly look stunning.

I searched over the note looking for the clue that was supposed to tell me who he was. Suddenly it hit me. The letters standing out like a sore thumb, they were underlined spelling out the letters of a name I've been waiting to figure out.

"Eric." I whispered.

Just as I had the lights above my head were lit, the lights almost blinding as they danced with the branches of the trees. I focused on the lights, my brain trying to put all the pieces together. Before I could come up with any answers there was a tap on my shoulder.

I turned to greet his blue eyes as he held out red roses. I felt the tears welling up in my eyes as I jumped from my seat, wrapping my arms tightly around his neck. His arms laced around me as he held me close to his body lifting me from the ground.

"Do you like it?" He asked before he pulled away placing my feet back on the ground. I nodded my head as a tear slipped down my face. I was speechless. No one had ever treated me like this. I would have never guess it was Eric.

"Yes... Yes.. Yes... I love it!" I smiled hugging him tightly once more.

"Here take a seat, there's more to the surprise." My eyes followed him as he helped me into my seat. He walked around the bench taking his seat on the opposite side. The girl from earlier came around the corner grabbing both the silver domes. She removed them exposing the chinese food below. My eyes gaped at the food as my stomach pleaded for me to inhale it all immediately.

Eric reached across the table placing his hand on top of mine. My fingers tingle under his touch. "Thank you Sara." Eric whispered before the girl disappeared once more.

"Let's enjoy our meal and then you can open your last present. But I have one more thing to ask of you..." He paused for a moment, his expression searching mine looking for anything. I nodded my head grabbing my fork ready to dig in.

"Will you join me at my family Christmas party tomorrow evening?" I was a little taken aback by the question but quickly pushed that aside. I had nothing else to do and honestly if I went I wouldn't be alone on Christmas. That was the greatest present I could ever ask for. I nodded me head. I wasn't sure if I could get any words out even if I tried.

Eric grabbed his fork before stabbing at the food taking his first bite. "Dig in." He said before heading back in for the second bite. I did the same eating my food as slow as I could to not look like a pig.

"How did you do all of this?" I questioned about halfway through our meal. My brain still couldn't put together all the pieces of the puzzle. How did he know so much.

"Amber, my desk is right across from yours, you and Miranda don't really talk quiet. All it took was someone interested enough to listen." He paused for a moment, taking a drink of the water on the table. "The airport, the ice rink, hell Miranda picked out the perfume I got you."

"What do you mean, she knew about this all along?" I was going to kill her if she knew and chose to not tell me.

"No, she didn't know. Nobody knew. She was there when I was picking out the perfume, she thought it was for Barbra. I told here that's who my Secret Santa was." He smiled as he spoke, choosing his words very carefully.

"So you were there while we were looking for Christmas decorations." I took another bite of the book awaiting his response.

"Yep, that's how I knew what you wanted. I had hoped you didn't change your mind on it because you didn't like them."

"No I loved them." My heart was still racing, everything about this was too perfect. He had really taken the time to listen even when I wasn't talking to him. I reached down to the necklace around my neck. It was the one he had given me a few days back. I hadn't realized how big of a part he had actually played in my Christmas until I knew it was him doing it. He was always there, sitting right across from me at work.

"Thank you." I smiled, I wasn't sure what else to do. Eric had gone above and beyond to spoil me.

"Don't thank me, just promise me you will give us a chance."

I nodded my head. "Of Course."
