Evelyn

Warning: This chapter contains MAJOR spoilers for Trials of Apollo: The Burning Maze. You have been warned.

Evelyn's morning runs with Piper became a routine. They would meet at the lake after breakfast and run the same route every day, along the beach, around the edge of the woods, through the strawberry fields, and back to the lake to jump into it. As they ran they would talk, laugh, and just enjoy each other's company. Sometimes Annabeth and Percy would come along, but most of the time it was just Evelyn and Piper. Over the runs, Piper told Evelyn about the quests she had gone on, her ex-boyfriend Jason, his death, and the minor crush on Annabeth she had experienced last year. Evelyn told Piper about their life back in Washington, Callie, and how they had been left alone after Callie moved away. Both of them felt the runs were the best part of their days.

One afternoon, Evelyn had just finished climbing the rock wall when Percy ran up to them.

"I need your help," he said urgently.

"What do you need help with?" they asked.

"Dad Iris-messaged me saying he needed our help with something. He wants us to come to see him in person."

Evelyn was excited. They had never met their dad before and wondered what he needed them for.

"He wouldn't tell me what was wrong though," Percy explained.

Darn.
