Chapter 6

Evelyn

They jogged along, listening to the hypnotizing lyrics of Music Box, and Evelyn was happy. It was only their fourth day at camp, and she already had two friends. They would count Percy, but he was their sibling and didn't count. Evelyn felt at home here, more than they ever had back in Washington, at the strict private boarding school their mom had forced them to go to. The only thing they had liked there was Callie, but then she moved away. And left Evelyn with nothing.

Piper

Evelyn was sad. Piper, being a child of Aphrodite, could tell this much.

"Why are you sad?" she asked.

Evelyn slowed down. "I started thinking about my ex-girlfriend."

Piper looked at them concernedly. "If you want to talk about it, I'm here."

They sat down together, and Evelyn told her how Callie had been the only bright light for them back home, and how Callie had left them all alone. Evelyn began tearing up. Piper embraced them in a warm, comforting hug. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "It's okay to cry." Evelyn shuddered and began to sob.
