Chapter 1
"GRANDPA! GRANDMA! I'M HOME!" Aurora yelled as she kicked the door shut, her arms full of groceries.
"Hi sweetie!" Elise chirped, poking her head out of the kitchen, "Did you bought the things I told you to?"
"Yup, "Aurora replied popping the p.
"Good, can you bring them in for me?" Elise asked, turning around and continued with her cooking.
"Anything for you grandma," Aurora mumbled, making her way towards the kitchen.
After setting down the bags on the counter, Aurora sneaked behind Elise's back, trying to get a glimpse at the food she's cooking. As soon as the smell of mushrooms hit her nose, her mouth began to water. Elise turn around to grab salt and Aurora took the chance to steal a piece. Before she knew it, her hand was being slapped away and a wooden spatula pointing at her nose. Elise's reflexes were quick for a woman in her early seventies so Aurora don't stand a chance.
"Ow," Aurora pout, clutching her hand and doing her best puppy eyes, "that hurts..." she whined.
Elise narrowed her eyes, "Don't steal while I cook young lady," she said sternly.
"Okay, okay, " Aurora put up her hands and slowly backed away, completely surrendered under Elise's heated glare.
Aurora began dragging her hungry and tired body towards the living room with a grumpy look on her face. She slumped onto the sofa, decided to scroll through her phone to kill time. The stairs creaked and soon a tall man appeared in front of her.
"Hey gramps," Aurora greeted.
Taking one look at her face, Charles immediately knew.
"You failed again didn't you? " Charles asked with a smug look on his face.
Aurora nodded and pout. Charles grin widened and he mouthed 'my turn' before slowly walking towards the kitchen as soundlessly as possible.
Not before long, a slaping sound was heard followed by Charles yelp.
"Ouch! Honey!" Charles complained.
Elise repeated her famous line before returning to her cooking, muttering under her breath, clearly not happy about being disturbed twice in a row.
Charles retreated back to the living room feeling defeated. He came into the room with Aurora lounging on the sofa with a smirk on her face.
"How did the mushrooms taste? Is it good? " Aurora asked, knowing well enough Charles had failed again.
Charles huffed, ignoring her question and plopped down beside her on the sofa, sulking like a child. Ten years ago both of them had made a challenge out of it. Whoever gets to steal while Elise was cooking will be the winner, and the loser have to pay he or she 10 bucks. But so far there's still no winner.

"Imma go out for a walk, thanks grandma, it was mhmmm delicious," Aurora said, moaning a little for some dramatic effects.
"Off u go drama Queen, "the corner of Elise's mouth curved up slightly at her behaviour.
"Don't wander too far, " Charles warned.
"I won't, "Aurora replied.
With that being said, she put on her boots and grabbed her coat before stepping out into the cool evening breeze. She took a deep breath, feeling her lungs filled with fresh air before letting out a content sigh. Nature always calms her nerves, and she's glad she grew up within it.
Her hand traveled towards the locket hanging around her neck unconsciously. It was worn by her mother when she was still alive. She popped open the locket, inside were picture of her parents, her mother to the left, her father to the right.
Her parents died in a tragic car accident. It was even on the news. The night when it all happened, they were on their way visiting Charles and Elise. Then suddenly, a truck was charging towards them at full speed. Her father didn't have enough time to swerve out of the way. The truck slammed into their tiny yellow cadillac, crushing it like a tin can. The truck driver and her parents died instantly from the collision.
Only Aurora survived.
"You're a miracle, " Charles told her when he was finished telling her what had happened 17 years ago.
The accident shook the once peaceful River Stone town. It was the talk of the small town for months. Even until now people still throw her sympathetic glances every now and then. Everybody recognised her name, everybody know her as 'the girl who lost her parents' instead of Aurora.
She hates it.
She loves her grandparents who took her in and raise her after the accident. But sometimes she just wished the accident didn't happened, that her parents were still here, that she could lived a normal life with them.
"I wish you were here," Aurora whispered, gazing longingly at the picture of her parents.
Aurora gazed at the never ending forest, clutching the necklace tightly in her hand. She let the wind dry her few stray tears, begging for them to take away her longing for her parents.

"She's grown up to be a magnificent woman hasn't she?" Charles said, gazing at Aurora who's petting a wild rabbit not too far from the cottage.
"She did, " Elise agreed, a warm smile plastering on a face.
Charles hugged Elise to his side and sighed," I'm glad we took her in."
"Me too," Elise said, resting her head on Charles shoulder.
