[Location: Vale]
Just outside of the city, a bullhead makes it's way over dilapidated buildings and swarms of Grimm roaming the streets with it's two inhabitants.
Otherpilot: We're coming up on the city. I'll drop you two off to the nearest outpost the Children have set up. Remember, the Father tasked you with finding and retrieving someone here. We last heard that the target was recently captured by military officials and is located near Beacon Academy.
As the bullhead begins to land, one of the side hatches slides open and two individuals step out. One a mix between a spartan and a Grimm, wielding a weapon hybrid of a rifle, spear, and sword. While also holding a shield with a reinforced titanium outer edge, making it the most deadly frisbee on the planet.
The other a slightly short girl in red and black attire while sporting a bird-like helmet.
Otherpilot: Good luck. Oh, and watch out for the Witch.
Ruby: Wait, what?
Before she can turn around and ask another question, the bullhead takes off. Leaving Ruby and Pyrrha alone at the outpost, with the sound of distant gunfire and roaring Grimm. They decide to collect more information from the followers stationed here. As they walk, Ruby looks off in the distance and sees Beacon Acadmy... more specifically the Grimm Dragon still motionless on it.
Ruby:... It feels kinda weird to be back here like this.
Pyrrha: I know what you mean. But we shouldn't get sidetracked. We're here to locate... someone and get back to the castle.
Ruby: Who are we even looking for, anyway?
Pyrrha: Looks like we'll find out in a minute.
A follower makes his way to them and salutes.
Captain: We've been expecting your arrival. My squad and I have been assigned to aid you on your mission in anyway possible.
Ruby: Oh! Um, hello.
Pyrrha: We're looking for a high valued target close to Beacon. We would like to know as much as possible before heading out.
Captain: Of course. Anything you need to know, just ask.
Pyrrha: Who exactly are we looking for?
Captain: Some sort of humanoid Grimm, female. Kind of like you but not entirely. Scout reports say she mostly roams around the acadamy for whatever reason. Which is where the military captured her at. So far, they have not taken action to execute the target.
Pyrrha: Where are they exactly?
Captain: The main court yard. The large camp is a bit hard to miss. The target is located somewhere in the South side of the camp, depending if they have not relocated her yet.
Pyrrha: Alright! I guess that's all we need to know.
Ruby: Actually, I have a question... What is the Witch?
Captain: I... Nobody knows. It just showed up a month ago and has been killing anything that moves. We've learned to keep a large distance from it, but it looks like the Grimm and Vale forces aren't getting the hint. My advice; If you here raspy breathing, smell the ozone, or the air starts to suddenly feel thicker, run. Do not engage.
Ruby:... Duly noted.
Pyrrha: We need a plan to get her out. Any suggestions?
Captain: Hmm. My men and I can cause a distraction while you two sneak in and acquire the target for safe extraction.
Ruby: Sounds good. Let's get going.
Captain: Take this walkie talkie so we can stay in contact.
He hands them one and heads back. And so they begin their journey to Beacon Academy, the Captain rounding up his soldiers and preparing to head out. Pyrrha and Ruby head out on their own to get to the enemy camp faster.
[Timeskip brought to you by the Grimm Dragon still hanging onto the tower like a gargoyle]
Ruby's p.o.v.
We've been walking through these streets for an hour and to be honest... it's kinda creepy. Half destroyed buildings, burning cars, the occasional body, the sound of gunfire in the distance. All in the middle of the night while the moon is blocked out by clouds. For a kingdom still fighting, it looks kind of dead.
Pyrrha: Are you all right, Ruby? You've been awfully quiet.
Ruby: Hm? Oh, yeah. I'm fine. It's just... I remember walking through these streets and seeing so many people just going about their business, even at night it was lively in some way. Now... Now it looks like something out of a horror movie that Father would watch.
Pyrrha was about to say something, but the sound of gunfire nearby caught our attention. The sounds of screaming is present as well. We rush into an abandoned building as the ruckus draws closer. What catches my attention is what sounds like a shrill screech.
Pyrrha: "whisper" Get down!
We take cover behind an over turned table as we hear gunfire just outside. I peek my head out a little to see what is going on. A squad of Vale forces are rushing through the street while firing backwards at something I can't see.
Soldier: Concentrate fire on that thing! We have to hold it off until back-up arri-
A purple ball of energy flies through the air and collides into the soldier, sending him flying back as one of his arms are ripped off. Another soldier is engulfed in a purple field and lift into the air. Suddenly he is flung to a building head first with an audible crunch being heard from the impact. One of the soldiers seaces fire and grabs one of his grenades. After pulling the pin and waiting a few seconds he tosses it at their assailant. The grenade suddenly stops mid air and flies back at the thrower, detonating immediately and catching every member of the squad. I can hear that one member survived the explosion based on the groans.
Pyrrha peeks her dark red eyes over the table with me. Just then we start to hear what sounds like someone having trouble breathing. Suddenly we see a silhouette shamble down the street. We can't tell who it is though from the dark. They raise one of their hands out to the last soldier, engulfing him in a purple aura. He struggles and cries for help as he is lift into the air. Suddenly he goes rigid as he starts to bend backwards, his screams becoming louder. In one swift motion his back finally snaps in half, folding him to where his legs are next to his head. He immediately goes quiet as he falls back to the ground. That's when we heard it, the raspy breathing.
The figure staggers through the street and looks down at the bodies and I finally get a good look at it. I can tell it's a woman but, if anything, it looks more like a zombie! Her flesh is rotten to the point of exposing bones. The eyes seem to be a faded green with grayish pupils. Clothes torn to shreds and coated in blood, who's I don't know nor do I want to. Most notable of all is the gaping hole in her stomach, as if something clawed it's way out. However, although a bit hard to tell, this monster looks oddly familiar... Wait.
Pyrrha: "whisper" Is that-
Ruby: Professor Goodwitch?!
Pyrrha tackles me to the ground, knocking my helmet off, and places a hand over my mouth to keep me quiet. I hear a guttural moan from outside along with a strange humming sound. Suddenly the building begins to shake as a purple glow envelops everything. As debris falls all around, a loud explosion resonates from outside as the undead Glynda lets out a shriek. I escape from Pyrrha's grasp and peek back over the table to see what is going on. Glynda is trying stay standing as smoke emanates from her. Another explosion goes off, but this time a glowing shell flies through the air and hits her in the back. Having no affect on her, she twists around and lets out a deafening shriek. A purple aura emanates from her and in an instant she zooms across the street and out of sight in a blink of an eye.
Ruby:.................. Ok, she's gone.
I grab my helmet and place it back on my head as we both stand up from behind the table.
Ruby: What was that?!
Pyrrha: I'm guessing that that was the Witch.
Ruby: Glynda Goodwitch is the Witch!?!?.......... Glynda Goodwitch. Glynda, Goodwitch. Goodwitch. Good. Witch. The Witch. Ok now I get it. B-but how did that happen?
Pyrrha: I honestly have no idea.
*static*
Captain: This is Zeta squad. Do you read? Over.
I reach for my belt and pull out the walkie talkie, pressing the button on the side.
Ruby: This is, uh, Red team. Um, how copy?
Captain: We've acquired your distraction. You have about a few minutes before we let it loose on the camp. Over.
Ruby: Cool! I mean, roger. Oh, whatever.
*click*
Pyrrha: We have to hurry.
Ruby: Right.
We start running to our destination, just a few blocks away.
[Location: Beacon Academy]
3rd p.o.v.
After finally arriving near the camp, Ruby and Pyrrha sneak around to the South side of the court yard. Ruby uses her Cresent Rose to scope out the area and find where the target might be.
Pyrrha: Well?
Ruby: There are... two possible spots that are being guarded.
Pyrrha grabs the walkie talkie and calls the Captain.
Pyrrha: Come in. What is the situation with the distraction?
Captain:...........
Pyrrha: Hello?
Captain:...........
Pyrrha:...... "sigh" Over.
Captain: Distraction inbound in 3. 2... 1!
On queue, alarms sound off throughout the whole camp. All, except the two guards stationed outside one of the buildings, start running to the West side. The sound of gunfire can be heard.
Pyrrha: Alright. Now to take out the guards. Ruby?
Ruby: R-right.
She trains the crosshairs on her rifle on one of the guards. She takes a moment to compose herself as she looks down the scope. With one of the guard's heads in her sight, all Ruby has to do is pull the trigger....... She hesitates. Pyrrha notices this and is about to call her out until she realizes it.
Ruby is still hesitant about all of this. The war, siding with the Children... taking another's life. She understands as to why Ruby wouldn't go along with it just yet. Pyrrha on the other hand...
She grabs her shield and winds up for a throw.
Down at the building, the two guards just stand around as their comrades are being slaughtered on the other side of the camp.
Guard1:...
Guard2:...
Guard1: Hey.
Guard2: Yeah?
Guard1: Do you ever wonder why we're here?
Guard2:... You need to stop watching Red Vs Blue.
Suddenly a shield flies into the first guard's temple, shattering it completely and killing him instantly, and flies at the other guard, decapitating him. Pyrrha uses her semblance and brings her shield to her grasp, placing it on her back. Although the titanium edge is weakly magnetic, the rest is still easy to control.
Ruby just stands their in surprise as she stares at Pyrrha walking to the camp.
Pyrrha: Come on.
Ruby: Right...
The two make their way to the once guarded building. They open the door and spot a woman on her knees, chained to the ground with a sack over her head. A strange glowing collar wrapped around her neck as well.
Ruby: Um. Hello?
???: You don't sound like any of these Vale soldiers. Who are you?
Ruby: We're here to rescue you. My name is Ruby and this here is Pyrrha.
???: You know I can't see, right?
Ruby: Oh, Right!
Ruby walks over and reaches for the sack on her head.
Pyrrha: Ruby, wait! We don't know how dangerous she is.
???: You're one to talk. You say you're here to rescue me, but how do I know you're not here to kill me instead?
Ruby takes out her scythe and swings it down on the chains to the figure's arms. She just sits there for a second before raising her arms up to her neck, a strange collar wrapped around it. With a strong tug she rips the collar in half, sparks flying out of it as it is broken. Suddenly a purple spark courses through her arms, destroying the shackles attached to her. She stands up at her full height... of 7 feet.
Ruby: Woah...
She grabs the sack on her head and takes it off, revealing her bone white face and quill like hair, opening her red eyes and staring down at Ruby.
???: So, you say you're here to rescue me. Why?
Ruby: U-um-dwu-I-um-a-bla-duh-shee-da-do-pu-wa.
Pyrrha: We were sent by the Father to find and bring you with us.
Ruby: W-what she said.
Ruby says as she rushes behind Pyrrha, hiding.
???: The Father? I don't think I have heard of him before. Well, if he is that keen on finding me that he sent two teenagers to fetch me, I would hate to keep him waiting.
She starts walking out the door with Pyrrha and Ruby just watching her.
Pyrrha: By the way, what's your name?
She just turns her head as she keeps walking.
???: I've come to call myself Eve. Don't know why, but it sounds pleasant to hear.
She finally walks out of the building, leaving the two behind.
Eve: Are you two coming?
Ruby: "whisper" She scares me.
Eve: I heard that.
Ruby: Eeek!
Pyrrha pulls out her walkie talkie and calls the Captain.
Pyrrha: This is Pyrrha. Target acquired. We are heading back to the outpost. Over.
Captain: Uhh, slight problem.
Pyrrha: What is it?
Captain: Remember that distraction we had planned? Yeeaahh well, It's heading right for you.
Pyrrha: What?
Off in the distance a Vale soldier stumbles into view, falling to the ground and trying to crawl away.
Soldier: Aurgh! Oh God! SOMEONE HELP ME!
He is consumed by a purple aura and lift in the air, making him scream even more in panic. His arms and legs suddenly snap outwards, making him now scream in pain. As his limbs stretch out, a familiar figure walks into view.
Ruby: Oh God, she's back!
Pyrrha: Are you kidding me?!
Eve: You've encountered it before?
Glynda then snaps her rotten head in their direction as the soldier continues to scream.
Eve: And now it sees us.
No longer taking the strain the soldiers limbs finally rip off as blood spurts out of his stumps, falling to the ground. The undead professor starts to make her way to the three, surprisingly picking up speed. Ruby pulls out her weapon and starts taking shots to slow her down, with no affect aside from bouncing off of her aura. Pyrrha looks to her right and spots an abandoned jeep. Using her semblance she launches the vehicle at Glynda. As it makes contact, the jeep suddenly explodes into a ball of flame. Glynda nowhere to be seen.
Pyrrha: Ha! I got her!
Glynda: "shriek"
Pyrrha: Nevermind.
Glynda rushes out of the flames with a purple field surrounding her now. Pyrrha pulls out her shield and sword and takes a stance. Eve however just saunters infront of them and faces the charging Witch.
Pyrrha: What are you doing?! She'll kill you!
Eve: It hasn't before, it won't now.
Ruby: Say what?
Without answering, Eve shoots her left hand out and a purple wave of explosions launch across the ground and directly at Glynda. Without effort she is thrown in the air and remains their, flailing around in a bright purple field. Eve throws her right hand out and a ball of energy flies out, hitting the floating Glynda and launching her clear across the camp.
Ruby: Well... that was easy.
Eve: That won't keep it down for long. Where ever we're going, we need to go now.
Pyrrha: Right. Follow me!
They rush out of the camp and make their way back to the outpost. The shrill shrieks of an undead professor echoing throughout the night.
[Location: Children's outpost]
Back at the outpost, the squad that led the distraction to the camp just hang out by the bullhead.
Member1: Hey, do you think they're dead?
Member2: Probably.
Just then they hear the sound of footsteps heading their way. They look over and see the three making their way to the outpost. The Captain steps forward to greet them.
Captain: Hot damn, you got her! Plus with that camp taken out, Vale has one less foot hold here. Woah...
He then sees Eve right behind the two.
Captain:... You're a lot taller then I thought.
Eve: Hmmph.
Pyrrha: Asides the Witch, this was kind of easy.
Captain: Well don't get use to it. The more you succeed, the more likely you'll be given much harder missions.
Ruby: Uugh. That's great to know...
Captain: Anyway, your bullhead just arrived. Safe travels!
With all that said and done the three step into the bullhead, with some hesitation from Eve. Once it lifts off, the bullhead makes it's return back to the castle. As it flies pass Beacon, the Grimm Dragon continues to stay frozen in place. Only for one of it's wings to twitch ever so slightly.
