NEXT DAY

"Just something for you." Sharpay hands Ms. Darbus a little box.

Today I was wering a long sleeve shirt and glove without the fingers, so anyone can't see my cuts. Than I sitting beside Ryan and glacing at him and he doing the same.

"Well, I expect we all learned our homeroom manners yesterday, people, correct? If not, we have some dressing rooms that need painting." Ms. Darbus told them "Now, a few announcements. This morning during free period will be your chance for the musicale auditions, both singles and pairs." Ms. Darbus informed them.

Sharpay claps with childlike excitement as she beams at Ms.Darbus, she is soo stupid.

"I will be in the theater until noon for those of you bold enough to extend the wingspan of your creative spirit." She told us.

"What time is she due back on the mothership?" Chad jokes with Troy.
Troy and Chad snicker at the joke.

"Now today, we are going to discuss the importance of Shakespeare..." She continued.

HALLWAY

When the class finished I was in my looker geting my material, when i phone vibrate with a mensage.

Please come to the audition!!!!- Ryan <3

Oh, he wants me to do the audition with him. I don't know, but I will go there to se him.
Ok,I'll be there to see you- Cat
I texted back, and got a replay.

Okay, but I realy wanted you to audition with me.- Ryan <3

I put my phine awey and start to go to the auditouri, I have told before to Penelope that I'd go to the pratice in the free period. When I get there I see Troy through the backstage entrance wheeling a janitor's cart with a mop sticking up.

"Hey, can I hide here?" I ask to him, he turn and smile.

"Yeah." He said "I see that you came to see Ryan."

"Yeha." I said.

We hide as the hopefuls for the musical file in with Miss Darbus at the head of the group and Kelsi right behind her. Miss Darbus and Kelsi walk onto stage as Miss Darbus addresses the small audience.

"This is where the true expression of the artist is realized. Where inner truth is revealed through the actor's journey...(bell rings) Was that a cell phone?" She asked.
The members of the audience check themselves to see if their phone went off.

"No, ma'am. That was the warning bell." Kelsi tells Ms. Darbus.

"Ah! Those wishing to audition must understand that time is of the essence. We have many roles to cast and final callbacks will be next week." She announced.

"First, you will sing a few bars and I will give you a sense of whether or not the theater is your calling. Better to hear it from me now than from your friends later. Our composer, Kelsi Nielson, will accompany you and be available for rehearsals prior to callbacks. Shall we?" Ms. Darbus.

First singer:(off-key) It's hard to believe that I couldn't see

"Uh-huh. Yes, thank you. Next." Ms. Darbus calls.

Alan:(badly off-key) It's hard to believe
That I couldn' sneeze... see

(Sharpay and Ryan are shocked by the error)

"Alan, I admire your pluck. As to your singing... That's a wonderful tie you're wearing. Next!" She calls out.

Third singer:(off-key) It's hard to believe that I couldn't see
That you were(winks at Miss Darbus) always right beside me

I want you to (winks at Miss Darbus again) know

"Uh... stop."Ms.Darbus ordered.

Cindra:(high pitched) ...so lonely before I finally found
What I've been looking... for (holding note)

"Ah... Cindra. What courage to pursue a note that has not been accessed in the natural world. Bravo! Brava! Perhaps the spring musicale." She tells her. Cindra's smile vanishes as she looks over to Kelsi who flashes her a 'Better luck next time' smile. Cindra makes a squeak and walks off. The next student to audition does a ballet routine, which Miss Darbus seems to enjoy. His audtition ends when he crashes off-stage

Disturbed Girl: (spoken) It's hard to believe that I could not see

Disturbed Boy: Couldn't see

Disturbed Girl: That you were always right beside me

Disturbed Boy: Beside me

Disturbed Girl: Thought I was alone

Disturbed Boy: Alone

Sharpay looks at Ryan who appears to be deeply entranced by the strange display. Wow they are very deep, relly Ryan? I laught quitly at Ryan face.

Disturbed Girl: With no one to hold

Disturbed Boy: To hold

Disturbed Girl: But you were right beside me

Disturbed Boy: Beside me
By this point, the disturbed couple are on their knees rolling around on the floor.

"Well, that was just... very disturbing. Go see a counselor. Uhh. Next!" Ms. Darbus calls out.

"Hey! So you two decided to sign up for something?" Gabriella apear out off nowere.

"Uh... No. You?" Troy asked.

"No. Um... why are you two hiding behind a mop? Your friends don't know you're here, right?" She asked.

"Right." I smiled.

Kelsi plays the intro to the song, but the sixth singer is overcome with stagefright and just freezes.

"Thank you. Next." Ms. Darbus calls out.

The sixth singer runs off the stage in shame "Um... Miss Darbus is a little..." Tory begins.

"harsh." I finishes his sentence "But is true."

"The Wildcats afraid?" Gabriella asked.

" No! No, We're not afraid, we're..." I begin, I'm afraid about what dad'd think not the people.

"Just... scared." Troy finishes her sentence.

"Me too... usually." Gabriella smiles.

"And for the lead roles of Arnold and Minnie we only have one couple signed up." Troy,Gabriella and I all hide behind the cart "Sharpay and Ryan. I think it might be useful for you to give us a sense of why we gather in this hallowed hall." Ms. Darbus said.

As they get up to go on stage, Sharpay stops Ryan so she can go first. Ryan rolls his eyes. I'm kinda upset because Ryan suppose to audition with me but i know that she is his sister.

"What key?" Kelsi asked Ryan.

"Oh, we had our rehearsal pianist do an arrangement." He told her a little embrassed.

"Oh." Kelsi said upset.

"I told you not to do the jazz squares." Sharpay told Ryan when the song ended. I found really cute him doing the jazz.

"It's a crowd favorite. Everybody loves a good jazz square." He told her making me laugh, seeing me he flesh a smile and I smlie back.

Sharpay shoots a look at Kelsi, who immediately puts on a fake smile and starts clapping. The rest of the small audience applauds.

"Well... Are there any last minute sign-ups?" She asked as me and my brother and Gabriella hide in the seats.

"Don't be discouraged. The theater club needs more than just singers. It needs fans too. Buy tickets!" Ryan said to them.

"Oh, actually, if you do the part with that particular song, I imagined it much slower..." Kelsi told Sharpay, it will be more beautiful slower.

"If we do the part? Kelsi, my sawed-off Sondheim, I've been in 17 school productions. And how many times have your compositions been selected?" She asked harshly, I don't like her.

"This would be the first." She told her.

"Which tells us what?" Sharpay asked.

"That I need to write you more solos?" Kelsi said in a questioning tone.

"No. It tells us that you do not offer direction, suggestion, or commentary. And you should be thankful that me and Ryan are here to lift your music out of it's current obscurity. Are we clear?" She asked harshly and loud

"Yes ma'am. I mean, Sharpay." Kelsi said in fear.

"Nice talking to you." Sharpay puts on a fake sweet grin. She leaves the auditorium without Ryan following her. She was so happy didn't even notice that her brother stayed behind, she's so stupid. He looked at me with hope in his eyes and I smiled to him making his eyes light up and a smile come to his face.

"Any last-minute sign-ups?" Ms. Darbus asked.

"Actually Ms.Darbus I would like to audition with some else as well. If you don't mind." Ryan told her.

"Oh and who will that be?" She asked.

"M-me.Ms. Darbus." I said popping up from my seat, both Troy and Gabriella looked at me with shock. And Ryan smiled at me. I walk the hallway to the stage.
