Riders From Outside
*Spongebob narrator voice* Ah- a perfect day in Encanto, a light breeze to cool the sweat of the villagers as they made their way into a crowded arena. The bright grass drifted on the hills above as trees rustled in the wind. A capybara chewed on a flower as a butterfly passed by.
" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
A young boy fell out of a tree, bouncing through the bushes onto the hill. The capybara screeched and ran off as the wild-haired 4-year-old quickly picked himself up off the ground.
" MIRA HURRY UP! THE SHOW IS GONNA START!"
" Mama told me not to get my new dress dirty! Plus, it's not my fault you wanted to stop and climb that tree to see if that was an apple tree." A little girl said as she carefully stepped out of the bushes, brushing off her dress and checking carefully to see if she had any leaves in her curly hair.
" It looked like an apple tree!" The boy reasoned as he took ahold of the girl's hand, dragging her down the hill.
The two ran through the empty streets of the town, their small feet moving quickly across the stone ground. Eventually, they ran into a clearing on the other side of town, where a circle of wooden bleachers was set up, circling a corral. Decorations hung from the wooden barriers as people cheered. The two children ran into the crowded bleachers, filled with sweaty people as a man walked into the middle of the small arena.
" Senorias and Seniors! Welcome to Los grandes jinetes de la familia Cortez!" He announced as everyone cheered. The small boy bumped into a tall teenager and the little girl bumped into him after.
" Camilo! Mirabel! Where have you been? You were supposed to meet me here 20 minutes ago!" She scolded. The curly-haired teen wore a red bow atop her head.
" Sorry Dolores, But you're the one who begged me and Mirabel to leave you alone so you could talk to that himbo Mariano." Camilo said as he made fake kissing sounds. Dolores's face burned red.
" STOP IT CAMILO!" She stomped her foot.
" Aye aye aye! There you are." Dolores's father, Felix, groaned as he pushed his way through the crowd. " Come on, the show is gonna start." He dragged the 3 kids to where the rest of their family sat.
The crowd watched as cowboys appeared on horses, circling the arena in a cloud of dust.
Oohs and Aahs filled the arena as the cowboys cleared away.
" Now may I introduce, the Charrerias!" The man announced as women on horses rode into the arena next, they wore colorful dresses and sombrero-like hats as they rode into a formation. Music started as the riders started doing tricks, everyone gasped.
" WOAHH!" Young Camilo and Mirabel said in wonder as they saw one woman stand atop her horse as it galloped, her lasso circled in the air as she stood on the horse, which galloped at a fast pace. The crowd cheered loudly.
" That's my mama!" A little girl who stood next to Camilo and Mirabel yelled, cheering.
The two cousins' heads slowly turned to the little girl sitting next to them, their faces showing shock.
"THAT'S YOUR MOM?" They said in unison. The h/c girl turned to face them, grinning. " Yeah!"
" She's so cool!"
" Can you do that stuff too?!"
" No, but one day I will!" She said as she put her hands on her hips with a determined gaze. She suddenly turned back towards them, sticking her hand out.
" I'm Y/n! Y/n Cortez'. My family runs los grandes jinetes de la familia Cortez. Mi papa says that I should always greet new people with a handshake since it's polite."
Camilo and Mirabel shared a wide-eyed glance, which quickly turned into a mischievous one as they turned their eyes back to Y/n. They both stuck their hands out as they wore posh faces.
" In that case, I'm Camilo. Camilo Madrigal! And this is my prima Mirabel!" Camilo introduced as he shook hands with the girl. Mirabel did the same soon after.
" Hmm? Who's this?" A woman who wore a dark-haired bun and a blue apron asked, looking down at the trio of children.
" Mama! This is Y/n! Her family runs the show!" Mirabel said as she jumped up and down. The woman kneeled down, her kind brown eyes meeting Y/n's.
" Hola Y/n, I'm Julieta, Mirabels mom." She said in a soft voice.
" And i am Julius, Y/n's father." A man's voice said as he picked his daughter up. " There you are Y/n. Sorry about her, she wanders." He chuckled.
" No apology needed! Y/n was just making friends with these two." She gestured to Mirabel and Camilo, who awed at the tall, strong man.
" Would you like to see the horses chicos?" Julius offered the children. " In fact, you and your family should meet our family! We can let these little rascals play while we talk, meet us down by the barriers after the show?" He asked. Julieta agreed and informed the rest of her family.
Soon, the magical show ended and the Madrigals all met the Cortez family.
" Hola, I am Helena, Y/n's mother." A woman with her brown hair woven in a braid said, she held Y/n in her arms as the little girl wore her mother's hat, which was much too large for her head.
" You're so cool!" Mirabel squealed.
The woman laughed, she gestured to her family who stood next to her. " You've already met my husband, Julius. This is my sister, Cora and her son, Pablo." A woman who looked similar to Helena, except her hair was a lighter shade of brown, stood as she had a hand on a boy's shoulder. He seemed to be gawking at Luisa, who stood shyly behind Isabela and Dolores.
" And this is Cora's husband, Nicolas."
A shorter man stood next to his wife, his graying sandy hair was pulled into a short ponytail, he wore a cowboy hat that had intricate woven designs.
Abuela introduced her family, entering her long monologue of how the family had a miracle and what the family's gifts were. Y/n's jaw dropped at the story.
" What's your gift?" She asked the two cousins.
" My birthday isn't for a few more months. But when i turn 5, i'll get my gift! So will Mirabel on her birthday too!" Camilo said excitedly.
" How long do you plan on staying in our Encanto?" Abuela Alma asked.
" We plan on staying for at least 6 months." Julius said.
Y/n and Camilo and Mirabel looked at eachother mischiviously.
And so, the trio was created.

The three ran through the town, screaming in joy, as kids do. Villagers looked at the kids with wide eyes.
Camilo and Mirabel played hide and seek, they searched for Y/n vigorously.
The girl popped out of a haystack behind them, causing the two cousins to scream, before laughing. This soon resulted in a hay-fight.

Camilo and Y/n hid behind Casita as Agustin, who was on the other side of the house, turned on the hose. The man wore a confused look on his face as water didn't come out. He looked deep into the hose's entrance curiously. Y/n and Camilo looked down at their feet, which held down part of the hose. They gave eachother a nod and a grin as they lifted their feet.
Agustin screamed as water splashed all over his face.

Y/n and Mirabel and Camilo's head popped out over the fence line one by one, all of them having mischief plastered on their faces. They looked down at the donkey pen.
Camilo raised a wrench in the air as he gestured to the gate's entrance.
The two girls nodded their heads eagerly.
Soon, the gate was fixed to where it would always open randomly, even when locked.
Y/n decided to let the gate open, which resulted in the three riding donkey's through the town in a stampede, the villager's wore horrified faces as they ran to the sides of buildings, watching the three children yell in excitement as they rode the donkeys down the road.

Julieta, Pepa, and Julius looked at the three young musketeers, as they tapped their feet, angry.
The three children slowly smiled as they shrugged.
Julius pointed to the town's mural, which was painted with mustaches on all of the Madrigal's faces.
Mirabel and Y/n pointed to Camilo, who took out a paintbrush that he was hiding behind his back.
*************************************************************************************************************
The trio was chased out of Casita by Isabela, who chased them. The young girl's hair had been mysteriously dipped in flour while she was sleeping.
The children ran around the fields of the Encanto, Felix stood as he laughed at the scene, but soon silenced himself as he saw Abuela Alma's glare at the children.
*************************************************************************************************************
Bruno sat in the kitchen, stealing arepas. The man had a joyus face as he bit into the bread.
Bruno's eyes opened widely, his face suddenly turning red. The man spit out the arepa as he screamed and ran, looking for water.
The three children sat under the table, giggling and snickering as Camilo and Y/n held a red bottle of chile', that they had put into the arepas.
*************************************************************************************************************
Y/n sat in their secret hideout, which was a small treehouse they had built by the river. Camilo's voice suddenly rang through the forest as the boy thumped his way towards the treehouse.
" Y/n! Y/n! Guess what? My birthday is tomorrow! And you know what that means, i'll be getting my gift!" He said as his head popped over the entrance, looking around for the girl in the tree.
He saw as Y/n sat in the corner, her head hidden in her lap as she let out muffled sobs.
" Y/n?..." Camilo's voice said in a quieter tone. He crawled over to Y/n and sat next to her. " What's wrong? Was it something i said?"
" N-No," The girl sniffled, " It's my family. We're...We're leaving the Encanto tomorrow." Tears slipped down her face as she cried.
The young boy's face dropped. " WHAT? B-BUT- It hasn't been six months yet!"
" Mi papa said that we've been here long enough, and that its time for our traveling show to move on."
Y/n gently lifted her head to see Camilo.
" Why are you all wet?" She questioned as she studied the boy's soaked hair as it dripped on the wooden floor.
" I...may or may not have fallen in the river on my way over." He admitted.
The two sat in silence for a minute, before Camilo spoke again.
" Will you at least make it to my party tomorrow night?"
Y/n shook her head sadly.
" That's when we leave."
Camilo looked into the wall, he seemed to study each crevice and splinter in the wood panels as he thought.
Suddenly, he hugged the young girl. She blinked before hugging him back tightly.
" You're my best friend Camilo."
" And you're mine, Y/n."
" We'll always be best friends, right?"
" Right!"

And so, tomorrow night came. The town was nearly empty of villagers, as they were all at Casita Madrigal for the party.
Camilo sat in his bedroom, it was almost time for him to go downstairs for the ceremony. He watched himself in the nursery mirror, his white clothes had seemed too formal, so he wore his ruana over it.
" Psssssst."
The boy snapped his head towards his window. " Huh?"
" PSSSSSST!"
Camilo stumbled over to the window.
" Y/n?"
" Who else?" She sassily said as she popped her head into view.
" But- aren't you leaving?"
" Yes! But i begged my parents to let me give you your present."
" I got a present?!" The boy said, grinning.
Y/n plopped a small box on the windowsill.
" Wait- how are you standing there? You're not that tall!" Camilo noticed.
" Casita lended me a hand."
Y/n was being held up by stairs on the side of the house. The tiles clacked in response, agreeing.
" Open it!" She urged.
Camilo opened the box, gently taking off the green ribbon.
" A- bracelet?" He said, taking out a small bracelet, yellow and f/c beads patterned the bracelet, a copper chameleon and a f/a ( favorite animal ) dangled in the center.
" Yeah! So you'll never forget me!" She grinned.
Camilo hugged the girl over the windowsill. " I LOVE IT! But i could never forget you! In fact- lets make a pact. Until the day we see eachother again, we'll always remember eachother. Agreed?"
" Agreed!"
" Camilo! Its time!" Pepa's voice said down the hall.
" I have to go Y/n- Y/n?" The boy turned back to see that the windowsill was empty, but he could see a small girl-sized shadow running away from Casita.
" Don't forget me!" She said as her voice faded into the distance.
" I won't," The boy whispered to himself. " I will wait for you."
