Chapter 29- Edward
Hey guys!!! The start of this chapter is based two hours after Tess and Caleb run away by the way just in case any of you get confused. Please enjoy!!!!!

"Tess ran away," Nick said slowly to me. I stared at him, my mouth wide open.
"She wouldn't...she couldn't...how did she get out?" I cried.
"She didn't take the news that you didn't want to see her too well," Nick sighed. "To be honest, I don't blame her. That wasn't a good move, Edward."
"What else was I meant to do?" I cried. "Let Dr Brand mess with my mind and attack her when she was near me? I can't take a chance like that, Nick."
"Not letting her see you at all though?" Nick exclaimed.
"I did what I had to do," I muttered. "You need to find Dr Brand and stop whatever he's doing to me so I can explain to Tess what the hell is going on."
"I'm doing all I can, Edward!" Nick cried. "Its hard when you have to fight through an entire army and a force field. I'm trying to find Tess and Caleb too." I was a little taken aback. Caleb was missing too? Of course he followed Tess. You only had to watch the way he looked at her and know that he liked her. "I'm sorry, Nick," I said. "I'm just a little stressed out."
"Me and you both, buddy," Nick sighed. "How have you been, anyway?"
"A couple of attacks from him but otherwise, the doctors say my bones are healing," I said. "Not fast enough though..."
"The doctors have ordered this new medicine thing, by the way," Nick said. "Apparently it heals bones within hours." (A\N this book is based in the future so who knows...maybe it could be possible one day?!)
"You really believe that?" I asked.
"With the stuff that the government have, why not?" Nick laughed. "It should be here tonight then we can try it out on you."
"Still doesn't solve all my injuries," I said.
"I know but at least you can walk around and maybe help us with your powers," Nick pointed out. I shrugged. "I've got to be going," Nick said. "Rest up, I'll be here tonight when the medicine gets in." I nodded and watched him go from my bed. This medicine will help me so much. I'll actually be able to walk around and do something in this war, not just be a burden. After all, its my fault that the government have my shield, I should help put it right and find Tess. I cant believe that I was stupid enough to think that she would just except me not seeing her. Of course she was going to strike out.
I was so bored that I fell asleep in a few minutes despite being worried about Tess. I was attacked by nightmares again as soon as my eyes closed. Dr Brand was seriously messing with me. He showed me pictures of Tess going through the exact same thing that I went through while I was with the government. He must be putting videos in my head of me but replacing my face and body with Tess. Suddenly Dr Brand turned to me. "Come now, Edward," he said, his voice echoed around me. "I know you know what I'm doing. I can make it worse than this, you know." He gestured to Tess who he was standing over. "All we need is for you to come to us."
"You have nothing on me," I shouted. "I don't care if you hurt or kill me. You don't gain anything from it!"
"Perhaps not," Dr Brand said. "But I know where your sister is." Before I could say anything, he faded to black. I woke with a start to find Nick shaking my shoulder.
"The doctors want to give you the medicine. It got flown just an hour ago," he said. I grabbed his hand.
"He knows where Tess is. He told me. If he gets to her, he'll use her against me. He wants me to go to him," I gasped. Nick nodded.
"I knew he'd do that at some point," he said. "Let's just be this medicine into you then when you've mostly healed, we'll talk about it." He moved aside from the bed to let a doctor come through. He was holding a bottle with a measuring cup and poured some of the medicine in. It was clear. "I have no idea if this will work or not but its worth a try," was all he said. He gave me the cup and I downed it in one gulp. It tasted sour and pretty disgusting. I coughed as it went down, trying to get the horrid taste out of my mouth. "Yuck," I said.
"It will work in about an hour. Stay still till then," the doctor said then left the room.
"How do you feel then?" Nick asked.
"It will work...hopefully," I said. I couldn't stop thinking about Tess and Caleb. Where are they? If Dr Brand said he knew where she was then he would have got her already, wouldn't he? "Nick, we need to find Tess and bring her back," I said.
"I know we do," Nick replied. "But I can't help feeling that we shouldn't." I looked at him quickly.
"What do you mean?" I said. "You don't want to find her?"
"That's not what I meant," Nick said. "I mean, think about it. Tess runs off because she's upset about you. Caleb follows her straight after we finished our discussion about not using Caleb till we really have to. If I know him, he'll want to minimise the amount of people that would get hurt. We've already lost ten people...we've taken out two government men who strayed out if the shield and that's it. Maybe we shouldn't stop them."
"But if they get caught or even killed..." I trailed off.
"They're smart kids," Nick said. "And they won't harm them. What better to have the sister of the person they want most and the son of the Commander? They'll use them for leverage."
"That's not making me feel any better," I mumbled.
"They'll be fine, I'm looking for them anyway," Nick said. "I've got to go and get ready for the night. You never know when they might attack next."
"Ok, be careful," I said. He nodded and left the room. I glanced out of the window at all the kids sitting on mattresses, looking anxious and sad. It reminded me of a war that we learned about at school, World War two I think, and how children were sent to the country away from the cities so they wouldn't get hurt by the bombing. It was strange to think about school again. I wonder what's happened to all my friends? Have they worried about me or simply forgotten? I pushed the thought aside. I don't think it matters any more. However this ends, I doubt that I'd be going back to that life again.
I flexed my broken arm a bit. Already I could tell the pain was fading and the bones were mending. It was remarkable what had come out of the research of the government. Most of it was terrible, of course, but some of it was good, like this medicine.
I looked again out of the window at a girl, no more than fourteen, holding what must be her younger brother. It reminded me all too much of Tess, where ever she was...

Hiya!!!!
I'm sorry if this chapter is a bit slow and boring. And also know the medicine that heals broken bones is a bit of a wild thought but I needed the story to move on and healing Edward was a good way of doing it. I hope it didn't ruin it too much...let me know what you think!!!
As always, please comment and vote!!! I always get so excited when my notifications say I got a vote or comment!!! Literally I cheer and then read it coz that's how crazy I am!!!
