I figured out the plan as soon as I knew for certain that Caleb had some sort of power over light. I may have been in pretty bad shape when Nick rescued me but that didn't stop me from noticing why the lights went out. When I said that I wanted to speak to Caleb, it was partly because I wanted to thank Caleb but also I wanted to make sure he wasn't trying anything with my sister. I'm meant to be a protective big brother, whether that be protecting her from psychopath governments or boys that might be trying something with her.

"Oh my God! I'm going to find Nick. He needs to know this!" Caleb cried. I studied him careful. I thought the news would scare him. He was, after all, only a boy. But instead, all he cared about was making sure Nick knew about my idea. He didn't seem to mind that he would be targeted by all of the governments forces. "Yeah, go and talk to him. I'll see if the doctors will let me in a wheelchair," I said. Caleb nodded and turned to leave. "Caleb!" I called after him. He turned.

"Yeah?"

"You like my sister, don't you? And I can tell she likes you too," I said. Caleb became a little cautious.

"As a friend, of course... I won't try anything if your worried about that. I mean, I'm too young to have a girlfriend, aren't I? And I'm sure she's not interested in me at all and with the war it's harder. If you want me to say away from her, I will, don't worry. I'm not really that worried about having a girlfriend and-" I cut Caleb off.

Caleb! I don't care if you love her. Really I don't. You don't have to worry if I approve or not," I said. "I'm just warning you. If you hurt her in anyway...well, let's just say you don't want to find out. My sister means everything to me and I won't see her broken hearted. Not after what we just went through. She's had enough sorrow already," I said firmly. I gave him a hard look.

"I won't hurt her. I'd never hurt her. I hope you know that," Caleb said. He met my eyes with an equally steely stare. I nodded and pulled my gaze away.

"Just make her happy. That's all I care about," I said. "Do that and we won't have a problem."

"OK," Caleb said. "Then we don't have a problem." He left the room just as the doctors came in. They didn't speak much to me. Just check the machines and me. Apparently it was going to take weeks for my bones to heal but some of the scars will never go away. When I asked if I could go around on a wheelchair, there was a bit of an mixed answer. "Absolutely not!" One of the men said. "We can't risk you hurting yourself again. You'll heal better in bed."

"But he'll be needed with the Commander," another reasoned. "We can't seriously expect him to stay here all the time while there is a war going on. Anyway, we are going to have to move him into the bunkers if the attacks come early."

"But who will take him around? We will all be needed elsewhere," a small man piped up.

"His sister or her friend can. Even Captain Garland could," a nurse said. "I can take him to them now and they'll do the rest."

"Please," I begged them. "I can't just sit here. I need to be with Nick. I'm the only one who really knows the plan. Please let me go." The doctors looked at each for confirmation.

"Fine," one said. "But you return here ever two hours and stay in this room over night, understand?" I nodded. The nurse who had spoken up for me helped me slide into a chair that she had got from outside. It was slightly painful and with one arm in a sling and my ankle in a cast. It was difficult but in the end I was comfortably seated with two pillows behind my back.

She took me up to the hall. We found Nick, Tess, Caleb and a stern looking women all around a table. They were listening to a group of three soldiers who were pointing to a map on the table. "...they will come for this bit here," a soldier said. "We have to move our troops there to protect that area. If we do then we have a good chance of holding them off until you guys do...whatever your plan is. I just hope that we can get through the shield quickly enough." The nurse slid me underneath the table and left just as the soldier finished.

"Edward," Nick said. "It's good to see you out of bed."

"Believe me, I wouldn't be if we didn't have the state of emergency we do," I mumbled. "I'm guessing that Caleb told you my idea."

"He did and I don't like my son in the danger zone but I understand that it is necessary if we want to be free," the stern faced women said. She held out her hand to me. "Commander April Palmer of the Changed." I took her hand and shook it.

"Edward Halister."

"I just wanted to say I think you are a very brave young man to have given yourself up to save your sister. What my brother had done to you is unforgivable but I will make that he pays for his crimes," she said.

"Your brother?"

"Steven Frost, I'm afraid," she explained. I shrugged. Why not?

"I'm just sorry that our stupid parents were helping the government," I said. Tess bit her lip like she does when we knows something I don't. It scared me how I knew her so well.

"Actually," Tess said. "They tried to stop it."

"What to you mean, Tess?" I said bitterly. "How could they stop a meteorite?"

"There never was a meteorite. It was a bomb created by the government to make new human supersoldiers. Our parents didn't know what they were building until it was too late. The reason why they left us was because they were trying to stop the bomb from exploding but they were too late and they died," Tess explained.

Oh.

I didn't say anything. Just sat looking down at the table. Then suddenly a soldier was there. He handed a piece of paper to Nick who turned pale as he read it. "What is it?" Caleb asked.

"It's a note from the government," Nick whispered.

"Well what does it say?" Tess prompted. Nick set the note down for us all to read.

Meet us tomorrow at one o'clock in the valley. The representatives must be Commander Palmer, Captain Garland and Tess Halister. Do not bring anyone else or you will be shot on sight. If you wish to survive the next few weeks, you must come.

I look forward to seeing each other again,

Chancellor Steven Frost of the government.

"You have got to be kidding me," I yelled. "I swear I'm going to break his neck once I get better. No way are you going, Tess. No way am I letting you out of my sight again. Especially since you are going to see him."

"I have to go, Edward. Nick will be with me, its fine," Tess said. "And don't worry. I can handle myself against him now. If he gets too close, I'll burn him to ashes." I looked at Nick for help. Surely he would refuse her.

"We have to go," he said. "Let's just see what they want first. Then we can blow them to bits."

Hey guys!!!!

So I may have mentioned a couple of chapters before that I was writing a new story called Friendship, Love and Murder. I have decided to completely scrap that story and start a new one. It didn't seem like it worked.

My new story is called I Fell for an Angel. It's a mix between action, adventure and a tiny bit of romance in it. I've already written the first five chapters and will be publishing the first chapter soon. I would absolutely love if you could read it and tell what you think. I'm not entirely sure if I should carry on with it so your advice could be critical to me.

I'm also currently working on another story called Tick, Tock, Time is Up but that is a working progress at the moment and I won't be publishing any of them chapters before I publish I Fell for an Angel. Maybe it will be ready in a couple of weeks or months time (depending on how fast I can write and when I feel ready)

Thanks for taking the time to read this!!!!! I hope you enjoyed this chapter. It's been a while since I have written in Edward's perspective so I had to warm up a bit.

Comment and vote please!!!!!

As always,

CricketCat
