Chapter 12- Edward
Hey guys, this chapter may be a bit slow, not really that exciting so sorry :'( :'( :'( but I have decided that my next chapter will be in Nick's perspective. Not sure if it's going to be a regular thing yet but I'm going to give it a go!!!

Six hours they put me through weapons testing. Six hours non stop. They let me sleep for an hour after that before getting to the really painful stuff, what they like to call the Punishment. That involved me being strapped to a table while they done whatever they felt like to me. Whether it was knives, electricity, water, fire or beating me senseless, they never stopped. It was always the same question: "Where is your sister? Where is your sister? WHERE IS YOUR SISTER?"
Of course, I didn't know where she was, only that she was safe. I never answered them. Ever. I knew that anything I said could be used against me and I was determined to give them nothing, no matter how painful things got. It was almost unbearable but I never gave in to them.
My torturers sliced cuts across my back and stomach and called in guards to beat me bloody. Once they showed me a mirror and I hardly recognised the boy in front of me with one eye swollen shut and black and blue bruises all over his body and face. The area around my ribs especially hurt. They must have broken at least two, if not more.
It was around ten in the evening when I heard Frost come in. He made his way to the head of 'punishment' Mr Bradford who had just finished snapping my wrist and finger bones one at a time.
"Has he said anything yet?" Frost asked Mr Bradford as I lay sweaty and panting on the table.
"No," Mr Bradford said. "He's a stubborn little worm, but I think I might have a way to break him." He led Frost over to the table where they usually laid out all the instruments ready for me. On it now, though, was a black case. Mr Bradford flipped the lid up and carefully held the device up. "This just came in from the lab this morning," he told Frost. "I ordered this weeks ago for another...project of mine before you gave me this one. Nasty little bugger if it gets into you."
"Is that what I am, Frost?" I gasped. "A project of yours?" That earned me a slap across the face, right along the bruises.
"Please ignore him, sir," Mr Bradford said. "Edward and I have such lovely times together but he can be rather rude sometimes. He is my favourite project so far; he fascinates me." Frost waved the comment away.
"What does this thing do?" he asked. There was a tiny glint of excitement in his eyes, like a school boy waiting for a surprise. Huh, he was human after all.
"Observe," Mr Bradford said cruelly. He walked over to me with the device in hand. Up close, it looked like a normal syringe but it had a red lever on top. Inside the syringe, was black liquid.
My heart pumped faster as he approached. As quick as lightning he jabbed the syringe deep into my arm. I gritted my teeth but didn't cry out. I had faced far worse than this. He reloaded it then jabbed it into my other arm, then my chest and finally my neck.
I managed to shift my head slightly with a lot of effort to see the black liquid flowing through my veins. It webbed across my arms, chest and neck but it didn't stop there. My guess is that it went all over my body, apart from my face. It felt pretty uncomfortable, like I was about to burst but not painful.
"What now?" Frost asked. Mr Bradford only smiled and pushed the lever forward.
I writhed upwards, my back arching off the table and screaming in pain. This was ten times worse than anything they had done to me yet. It was like every torture they had come up with all packed into one but it was coming from the inside rather than out.
"Please!" I screamed at Frost. "Please stop! I'll do whatever you want!" Frost waved his hand at Mr Bradford who pulled back the lever. The pain left me as quickly as it came.
"Now then," Frost said, rubbing his hands together. "Where has your sister gone? Where did the guard Garland take her?" I hesitated then clamped my mouth shut. Frost shook his head and sighed. "Fine then."
Bradford pushed the lever forward again. Pain exploded all over my body as my chest writhed up again. The veins in my arms and neck bulged out. Frost nodded. "That's enough, Mr Bradford," he ordered. Mr Bradford pulled back the lever again. "I think he's ready to talk." I lay there, gasping on the table. My hands squeezed into fists and dripping with sweat.
"All I know is they..."I trailed off.
"They what?" Frost persisted. "Come now, Edward. I will spare her if you tell us where she is." I thought for a moment. I knew that the next thing I said could cost me my life. But I didn't care about my life, and I needed to show Frost that.
"They are going to kill you," I growled at Frost. "Even if they die trying. Whatever you do, wherever you hide, they will find you. You can do whatever you like to me but I will never tell you anything." Frost shook his head.
"My dear Edward," he said with mock sympathy. "That was the worst thing you could have said and now, I'm going to hunt down your sister and kill her right in front of you. Slowly, painfully, so you could look into her eyes and know it was all you. You will hear her screams and you won't be able to do anything about it. Then, when you are begging me to stop, I will kill her. But not you. Oh no, no, no. I won't kill you. You are the perfect person to carry on with our experiments. You will live in a cage and suffer everyday, knowing you were the one who was responsible for killing your sister because you didn't tell us where she is." He turned to Mr Bradford. "Carry on, Bradford. Let me know if he admits anything else." He walked calmly out the room, leaving me screaming behind him.

After another three hours, I still didn't tell them anything. I had to make sure that they thought I knew where Tess was, that way, they would focus on me and not finding her. Keep all their resources on me because I was the closest and most easy thing to get to...well they thought so anyway.
Mr Bradford had snapped my collar bone, arm and my ankle an hour ago before giving up for the night. The guards took me back the isolation room. I tried to sleep, knowing that they would come back for me in a few hours to face more tests, but I couldn't. I was too worried about Tess, about what they were going to do to me, about everything really...
I used my good arm to drag myself across the room to the padded wall. Whenever I moved, my body screamed at me to stop. The broken bones throbbed and sent shots of searing pain up me whenever I made the slightest movement. The gashes along my back and stomach stung. The black, purple and blue bruises ached and made my body stiff. Blood was smearing across the white floor from various cuts. I squeezed my eyes shut. I would not cry, I would not cry.
The words of Frost haunted me: 'You will live in a cage and suffer everyday, knowing you were the one who was responsible for killing your sister ' If he just said that to get into my head, it worked. If he actually meant it... I shuddered at the thought. Don't go there, Edward. You've been tortured enough already, don't torture yourself.
I was almost tempted to tell Frost that I didn't know anything but I bit my lip. I made a promise to my parents that I would look after Tess. Telling them that I didn't know anything would mean that they would go after her even more. It would mean putting her in more danger and...well I just couldn't do that. I just had to hope that Nick would protect her.
Suddenly the hissed open and two guards rushed in. "Time already?" I groaned. "I must be important." One of them kicked me in the stomach, connecting pretty well with the broken ribs. I curled up in a ball and coughed violently. "Get up!" the same guard roared. My body couldn't handle it, even without the broken ankle. They grabbed me by the arms, including the broken one, and dragged me down the corridors, ignoring my cries and moans of pain.
This time they took me back to the infirmary for more strength tests. The nightmares were so much worse than before. They were new dreams, dreams of Tess and Nick getting caught and what Frost would do to them. I knew Frost had engineered them so I would tell him what he wanted to know but I resisted as much as possible.
"Come now, Edward," he said in his poisonous voice when I awoke from the test. "You can make this so much easier for yourself if you just tell us what you know."
"What if I don't know?" I moaned.
"We know you know something," Frost said. "Why go to all this effort to put yourself through this if you don't tell us anything. Even if you just tell us about the traitor guard Garland, it would be helpful. Anything Edward. All you have to do is tell us and we can end this." I glared at his with as much defiance and fire in my eyes as I could muster.
"Never."
