Breathless & Pain
*Capituló 14*
"You girls are early. It's not even half past six!" Thomas gasped as he saw us stretching on the ground.
"Well we didn't want to miss training," Eveline quietly chirped, trying to hide her yawn with a small cough.
I know how you feel...
"Where's Alex?"
My mom shrugged from the floor and stretched her arms out behind her, clutching her weight as she rested like that. "He slept on the couch. Poor thing didn't even realize I had left."
Thomas laughed and scratched his head. "Well since you're up already, let's get started."
We all stood up, and I looked around. The sun was barely rising up and it was slightly chilly. We were the only people around that were even remotely up and awake. "We aren't waiting for everyone else?"
"Nope. They can catch up later on. Now, time for laps girls." There was a collective groan from all of us and he just laughed. "If the enemy is following you, you can't just let it catch you. You need to be fast!"
Without another word, I began to follow my mom, since she knew the path he told us to take. We were all easily matching pace, and it was quiet until she let out a small chuckle. I turned my neck in curiosity, and she just shook her head. "This brings back memories."
"About?" I inquired.
"The day I met your father."
I stretched my neck a little further to stare at Eveline, who was looking at me with probably the same expression I had on my face. "Do tell us the story."
"Well the day started off like this one. Alice and me were out on our morning run, when we noticed a house that had always been abandoned -from our knowledge anyways- occupied. I didn't think of it much until we rounded it again at the end of our trip." She shook her head as she chuckled and wrapped the lose locks of hair around her ear. "I saw some dandelions on the outside of his property, and I went to go get one."
"Dandelions?" Eveline questioned, voicing my thoughts as well. Why did she want a weed?
"Dandelions. I have a wonderful memory with dandelions and my parents. Back then, I thought my parents were dead and seeing those flowers, I wanted that memory back so I went and plucked one." We both nodded and I shrieked when I tripped over a rock. Her strong, steady hand reached out to stop me, and I thanked her with a smile. "Anyways, I was seconds away from blowing the seeds away when all I heard was 'Mine' and I saw your father running down towards me at full speed."
Both Eveline and me chuckled. Oh that legendary word...
"At first, I thought that he was talking about the dandelion. But when he started to act like a weirdo and a stalker, and I gave him a chance to explained everything, I sort of accepted him. Everything else is just history."
"Is that why dad always gets you a bunch of dandelions that same day every year?"
Mom laughed and nodded. "Yes."
I didn't know that. The smile on my face fell, and I quickly looked away before they noticed. I had missed so much...
"Well that makes so much more sense." She sighed dreamily and rubbed her forehead with her palm, wiping the sweat away. "I find that romantic. If only Noah did that to me..."
"Well your mating isn't exactly... common."
Feeling like I was just intruding on their conversation, I picked up speed and just followed the path that was underneath my feet. My breathing quickly turned heavy, and the sweat began to roll down my face as they caught up to me, showing their confused faces before they just kept up with my speed.
I thought I was going to have trouble knowing where to go, but the path never disappeared or split into many ways. It was only when we began to see the trees clearing in front of us, -signaling we were back from where we started- did we begin to slow down.
"Almost there girls. Come on, we can do it!"
A small groan escaped my lips, but I managed to pump my legs with the rest of the energy that I had, and burst through the trees and into the field. As soon as we got to the spot we started at, we all but slumped to the floor, gasping and panting for air.
"No, no, no girls! Stand up! Come on!" Thomas half barked, half laughed, and we all groaned again. I felt arms skim underneath my back, and then my body was flying up, steadying me on my heels. I couldn't even open my eyes to see who had done that; I just placed my head in between my knees and panted hard.
"Man, am I out of shape!" My mom gasped what seemed like a few feet besides me. I took one more ragged breath and looked up, accepting the cold bottle of water that appeared in front of me. It was already opened, so all I had to do was chug as much as I could without choking myself. Even after finishing up more than 90 percent of the water, I still felt breathless and energy less. I tried to take a step forward, but all I saw was the grass swirl quickly to my face.
"Woah!" Warmth spread all over my body as two steady arms caught me. It was as if all of my energy just zapped back into my body as soon as he touched me, and I quickly bounced away, wide eyed as I stared at him.
"I'm ok."
He looked concerned. "Are you sure? You almost pass-"
"I'm fine. Really." He nodded, but then stiffened slightly as he stared off into another section of the woods. He then relaxed, and rolled his eyes before he turned his head to talk to my dad, who held my flustered mother.
"Did you get that?"
He looked up with a grin on his face, and nodded twice. "She'll be here in a few hours. Wonder why she didn't bother popping herself near us this time."
"She learned some modesty," Dimitri chuckled as he walked away -well towards what I guess was the front of the field since Thomas was there. My dad quickly followed, and they all conversed very quickly before turning back around to face us.
"I will be taking over the-"
"Ha ha no," my mom faked laughed as she interrupted my dad. "You just want an excuse to grab my ass since-" she paused and looked at us before she shook her head with a chuckle. "I can't even finish that sentence with my daughters present. All I'm saying, is that no."
He rose an eyebrow in challenge. "Why do you assume I want to do that? Unless you want me to-"
"Ungh! Dad, no! Please... just... no. I don't ever want to hear about..." Eveline shuddered and looked away as I quietly laughed.
"Fine. I'll train you all." Dimitri stepped forward, and I blinked once in surprise.
"Why isn't Thomas training us? Isn't he the-"
"He will be busy... training the wolves in combat." That's all he had to say for us to understand what he was implying. Because we were human and couldn't shift, we had to have different sets of training.
I crossed my arms over my chest in annoyance, but shrugged. "Whatever. I guess."
He moved us to a corner of the field, just as a huge group of the pack rushed in, sweat dotting their forehead, but their breathing evened out.
"You all are lacking!" Thomas yelled out, distracting me from whatever Dimitri was telling us. I kept my eyes on the group, but my body was faced towards our instructor. "A fifteen minute run when it's supposed to be done in less than nine! Do it again!"
"Emilee!" My head snapped forward, and I managed to stumble out a quiet response towards my name. "Did you hear what I said?"
I gave him a small, sheepish grin, knowing I was busted and scratched the back of my head. "Uhhh...."
He shook his head. "And you wanted to train."
"It's not my fault Thomas's voice distracted me. He is louder than you."
"Ladies, begin your poses," he addressed to Eveline and my mom. I didn't even have the chance to blink before he stood in front of me, my nose pressed up again his chest as he stared down at me.
"What-" I raised my arms to push him away, but he quickly caught them and I gasped as he changed positions in a blink of an eye. My hands were now pinned behind me, and I was incapable of moving them, even if I used all of my strength. "What the-"
"Pay attention. I may have agreed to let you train, but I will not let you do anything if it will just get you killed." His lips softly brushed my ear as he murmured, and I shuddered at the proximity of his face.
Don't move an inch Em... Don't move an inch...
His face stayed near my neck as he inhaled deeply. I shuddered again, feeling my legs slowly begin to wobble underneath me. Just when I thought I was about to go down, he moved his face away and said something that I didn't catch. I was still a bit dazed from his actions.
"Emilee," his voice was soft behind me, and quickly shook my head to clear it. "Try to get away from me."
I quickly looked up to see Eveline struggling to get away from her hold while I stood there, immobile. When one of his hands tightened around my waist, pulling me closer to him, i snapped out of my daze and tried to move.
"You need to do better than that," he instructed as I struggled with his heavy arms. "I can not tell you what to do because everyone has their own weakness." His hold tightened even more and I gasped, feeling my lungs constricting to breathe. "You'll dead by now Emilee. Fight god damnit!"
Weakness... weakness... what was his weakness...
It took me another ten seconds for his weakness to hit me. I scolded myself for not thinking about it sooner and faster, but I knew what I had to do.
I stopped struggling as I felt his arm tightened even more, and I yelped out in pain. I put on my best teary eyed face and looked up at him, my eyes blurred with fake tears.
"You're hurting me. It hurts."
His expression quickly morphed into one of horror, and his hold loosened quickly. I took advantage of that, and turned around to push my whole weight on top of him, causing him to tumble down quickly. I eyed a small branch on the floor next to where we fell, so I grabbed it and gently pressed it to his jugular, giving him a small smirk.
"You're dead," I whispered as he stared at me in shock. He stared at me in awe for a few more seconds, but then he narrowed his eyes and clicked his tongue.
"That will not work in the field Emilee." I quickly bounced up, vaguely noticing how my mom was now being held against her will. I kept my eyes on Dimitri as he slowly sat up, never removing his eyes from me.
"But it worked didn't it?"
His lips twitched as he tried to fight a smile, so he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "You'll be training with your sister from now on. If you want to be able to defend yourself, the mate card isn't going to work in a real fight."
"She won't need to be able to defend herself because she's not fighting."
I stiffened as her voice reached my ears, and turned around just in time to see her walk out from between so me trees, mounted on a brown wolf. She quickly got off, avoiding the huffing werewolf who left without another look, and strode towards me with a pissed off look.
"Tatiana? What are you doing here?"
"I came here once I felt half of my energy dwindling with just a simple spell that doesn't even require much." She stopped halfway, frowning in my direction and lifted up a hand, motioning to my heated body. "You should not be exerting yourself."
"And why the hell not?" I asked before anyone else could speak.
She took a step forward, and sighed when I felt someone lightly grab my bicep. "Your time is... coming. Things like this-" she motioned everywhere this time, "-will cost you more energy than normal. So whatever you do and feel right now, I will feel as well."
"So you're telling me you felt her energy dwindle down from the run she took?" My dad asked from somewhere behind me.
She nodded once and took two steps back giving me an apologetic look that left me confused. "She can feel mine too. I'll show you."
"NO!" I heard both Dimitri and my dad yell, but it was too late. Tatiana snapped her own arm with a mumble, making her wince in pain. It only took two seconds for the pain to register into my brain, before I began to scream, holding my left arm -the same one she had injured.
The pain didn't even last for more than a few seconds, but it left me panting and unable to keep myself up. Dimitri was of course the one that was holding me up, but he was hissing and shaking in anger as he rubbed the arm I was holding.
"Don't let her exert herself then. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to reside in one of your beds and rest. I recommend the same for Emilee." She quickly left, not even listening to the curses and shouts she was receiving. I breathed deeply through my nose as the pain faded away into the back of my mind. I could still feel Dimitris arms around me, but for once, I didn't care.
"Are you alright?" He breathed, still alarmed. His eyes were still trained on my arm, even though it never actually snapped; I just felt her pain as if it had happened.
"Yes. But we are going to have to talk to her about me training. I am not giving up on that." I managed to say to him before I was wrenched away by my mom.
"Let's get you to Quinn," she all but cried as she handed me over to my dad, who then began to follow the same path Tatiana had taken not a few moments before.
Whatever it took to bring me back to training...
