*Alex's pov*
As soon as they disappeared, I felt my heart break in two. My knees gave out underneath me, and Dimitri quickly followed, placing a heavy hand on my shoulder.
"We will get them back, Alex. Have faith."
My fingers were curled into fists as I slammed my knuckles into the gravel. I didn't care if I was tearing open my skin; my heart was already bleeding, making me feel anguished. Making me feel like if half of me was missing, and it was. My mate was missing. She had been taken from me.
"We need to find them," I croaked, feeling my voice come out in a whisper. "I can't live without her."
"And we will Alex. But you got to stand up and look at your wolves. They are feeling an immense pain with her leaving as well."
My head lifted up from the continuous grey floor to the small pack of wolves that had followed us. Sure enough, they were all howling out at the sky, or pawing their snouts, as if they were wiping away the tears. They could feel their mother missing as I could feel my mate missing.
"We need to start the hunt now Dimitri. I will not be without her for long." I stood up and quickly wiped my eyes, not caring if anyone saw. I took deep breaths, and nodded to myself and to Dimitri as his words reached my ears.
"I'm with you all the way. Let's go get out girls back."
~~~~
Even though the place was bustling with people, it still felt empty. More than half of my family was missing, so it didn't feel like home. It wouldn't feel like home without them.
"How in the fucking world cant we find them!" Dimitri roared as I sighed and rubbed my temples. My body slumped into the couch even more as I sensed him begin to wear out the carpet again. His pacing started since the second we got back to the pack grounds, and hadn't paused since then.
That was a month ago.
"She's the moongoddess Dimitri. Even I cant do anything about it. I can't find them," Tatiana confessed from her spot on the other side of the room.
My head snapped up to her. "I'm fucking tired of hearing that word. Can't. It shouldn't exist."
I heard deep full sighs as I placed my face on my hands again. "Oh Alex," Tatiana whispered and I heard her move. The cushion besides me dipped as she sat down, and I felt a hand on my back. I tensed, but then welcomed the calming feeling she was pouring into me. I needed to calm down and rest. I wasn't thinking right.
"You two have the entire world looking for your mates. Even though the pull isn't there anymore, the love you have between them is." Dimitri choked at her words and she hissed out a small apology. "I'm sorry Dimitri. You know what I meant."
I saw his head bobbing up and down as I finally brought my own up. I stood up, fixing my shirt before I ran a hand through my hair. "I can't just sit here and not do anything. I'm going out there again." Dimitri nodded in agreement and began to turn around to join me.
"You can't!" She addressed, quickly running in front of us. "Remember, you two are still kings, and have other people to think about."
"MY MATE IS OUT THERE AND YOU WANT ME TO LAY BACK AND BE A KING? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS TATIANA. HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE?" I roared, making her flinch.
"I'm being reasonable Alex." Her voice didn't quiver, even though I knew she knew I was seconds away from snapping her neck. My fingers were twitching besides me, and even Dimitri was fuming besides me. "I know finding the girls is a priority, but think about all the wolves and vampires that are out there working on finding them right now. Think about the resources that are being used, and how in the world they are going to be replenished. Someone has to be in charge." Her finger raised up to my chest. "Your son is already out there looking for them. You have someone already out there, so there isn't a single reason why you should be there yourself when you are needed here. When they are found, don't let anything stop you from getting them. Use Reece for crying out loud! Use that brain of yours before you tire yourself out and not be able to find them!"
She stormed away, slamming the door behind her as we stood in the foyer. It was silent as her words finished ringing in the air, and I turned to stare at Dimitri.
"Is she right?" I whispered, crossing my arms across my chest.
He sighed. "Partially. As much as I hate not being out there, looking for them myself, she's also right. We are kings Alex. Our kingdoms need us as well." He ran a hand across his face as he took deep breaths. "This is also the moongoddess we are blaming it on. She is our deity; she can literally make them invisible for years until she thinks we are ready to get them back. They can be standing right in front of our noses with different looks for all we know, and we wouldn't recognize them because all the indications of them being ours isn't there. We need to wait."
I growled. Max growled inside my head as well, agreeing with me. "I can't wait. I need her."
"You don't think I need her too? At least you had her Alex. I never got a fucking chance to hold her in my arms and call her mine."
My eyes narrowed. Even though he was her rightful mate, I was still her father. And a father protected her princess. "Who was the one who didn't want her in the first place?" His face darkened as he took the last remaining step to me, pressing his chest against mine.
"Talk about my past mistake one more time and I will not hold back. Destiny brought her to me and I will not let you be a wedge between us." His finger came up to poke my shoulder, but I quickly flicked it away.
"Don't fucking touch me."
"You might be her father Alex, but she's my beloved. My kingdom needs its queen, and you sure as hell aren't going to keep her away from her role."
With his last words, he stormed away and I let out a sigh mixed with a growl. I let out my frustration with the stair rail, startling a young maid who was bustling through the room with dirty clothes.
"Fucking fate. Fucking asshole." I muttered underneath my breath as soon as she picked up the shirts she had dropped and walked away. I was about to go outside and take a run, when a piece of clothing caught my attention. My eyes watered, and my mouth dried up as I realized what it was.
Delilah's shirt.
I quickly picked it up and pulled it to my face, not caring if I looked like a lunatic smelling dirty clothes. Her scent was still there, and it calmed both Max and myself down.
I miss mate!
I do too buddy. But don't worry. I will get her back. I will get our girls back, I promise you.
*Dimitris pov*
As soon as the door closed behind me, I took a deep breath and sprinted into the woods. I could feel my clothes sticking to my skin as I ran at high speeds, and the looks of wolves who were guarding the royal family as I passed by.
But I didn't care.
REECE! I practically yelled in my mind. I felt a pinch in his link, and then nervousness as he spoke back.
Uh... can I have 2 minutes, my king?
What the fuck. Why? What is going on that you need two minutes. You promised me you would be there when I called.
Even though he wasn't there, I could tell he gulped and groaned. I'm... in the middle... fuck....
His voice went soft, and my steps faltered as my eyes brows raised. 'What... the... fuck....' i thought to myself again as I realized what was going on. You... you are... I sighed loudly and ran a hand through my hair. Don't worry about it. Enjoy your err... your night.
I cut off every link of communication I had with him, and sighed again. He was having.. fun with his beloved while I was over here, without her for a second time.
"Need a drop?"
I jumped, and whirled around to see Tatiana coming around a tree. I frowned. "I thought you had left."
"I left the building. I haven't left the grounds yet. So, do you?"
I thought about it for a few seconds and nodded mutely. She took the remaining steps towards me, and placed a light hand on my shoulder. Three seconds later, my shoes touched the cold tiles of my palace, and I gave her another nod of gratitude.
"I'm a call away if you need me. I'll keep both of you informed if I find anything." With these last words, she disappeared again, leaving me by myself.
Like always.
With a swift turn on my heels, I walked down the familiar hallways, giving my workers a small nod of appreciation as they looked up. There was a feminine giggle in the air as I turned the corner, and then I saw Reece nuzzling his beloveds neck.
Guess they were done.
Without them spotting me, I quickly turned around and sprinted the other way, swiftly opening and closing the doors that lead to my office. With a sigh, I walked to my cart full of drinks and poured myself one. After a second thought, I brought the bottle with me to my desk, and plopped down, gulping half of what was in my glass with a shudder.
My eyes traveled to the closed door when another feminine giggle passed by, and my hand went up, only to come back down for a refill.
Emilee....
This was all my fault. If only I hadn't done that; if only I could somehow go back in time, and stop her from sacrificing her chance to become immortal. Just for me.
"Gosh... I'm such a fucking idiot."
I didn't realize I had drunk over half of the bottle until I glanced at it. Too bad I couldn't get drunk over these human drinks. I wished I had something stronger at the moment, so I could forget about my mistakes. So I could dream of a place where I was happy with her, and she was safe and sound, not being hidden someplace else.
"My fucking fault!" I roared, throwing both glass and bottle across my desk. They both hit the wall with an ear splitting crash, and I covered my face with my hands as my elbows rested on my desk.
My fucking fault...
