The Beginning
In the beautiful kingdom of Salgo, a wondrous kingdom guarded by the forests, there was a King. King Greij, ruler of Salgo and all the people pledged allegiance to him. The high class were invited to his balls, the middle class prepared the food and decorations for the ball, and the lower class were never seen. They were untouchable. They are the filthy specks in the beautiful kingdom. Yet one of those specks changed the entire kingdom's fate. And that is where the story begins...
Cendra is the first born of Hirda, another peasant. When Cendra lived her childhood as a peasant, she knew it could have been much worse; the only thing lower than a peasant is a slave. And since they're both inferior to the King they are casually mistaken as slaves and forced into slavery. She remembered all the times when a guard appeared near her home (a barn, but nonetheless) she and her family would run and hide in the woods so that they wouldn't face that horrible fate. Yet it was only a matter of time before her parents were caught. Both Hirda and his wife Ginsa were taken by the guard and dragged to the slaves' quarters when Cendra was only 10.
Fast forward 10 years when Cendra reached the age of 20. That morning she was sitting by the market door, weaving the last basket before she would start selling them. Rarely they would buy, but at least it got breakfast. Her once gorgeous amber eyes that glowed with the thought of running in the woods, chasing after deer and climbing trees were now dulled with the reality that that is just a waste of time. Her childhood was cut short by the lack of parents and surplus of mouths to feed. She became the head of the family, having to feed her brother Dreil and her twin sisters Akena and Akana. After her parents were taken Cendra moved her siblings to an abandoned shed that was closer to the woods. By luck she found a well that was also abandoned and used that as their only water supply.
By then Dreil was growing as a strong young man, was 14 years old and was attempting to master the fighting techniques his father began teaching them the moment they began to walk. The rest he learned from Cendra and the book his father left them. Akena and Akana grew to be beautiful little girls and are at the age of 12. By then Cendra was fully accustomed to her life: weave baskets, carve a wooden doll or two, sell what she can, hide from soldiers, try to buy food, hide from soldiers, practice her fighting skills at home, and hide from soldiers. This was the life of a pest; a nuisance to society with a fading desire to live. What she doesn't know is that her life was about to change... maybe for the better. Maybe.
Author's Note:
Sooo... I just realized I called the protagonist Cendra in the story and Cilana in the summary. Oops. Which name would you prefer I use? Leave a comment with your answer and I'll fix it up in a jiffy :3
