" L O G S I X - ' T H E B L U E ' S'"
As my robot friend lead me down the blue hall, a soft clicking of my shoes hitting the smoothed concrete beneath my feet kept my thoughts away so I was able to focus. Twenty or so people were in this together, though I felt like it was closer to twenty five rather than just twenty just due to the amount of people who were in the group before. Three rooms, three halls, one or two bathrooms each. This is was I discovered when I stepped into the rooms for the first time, they weren't the most comfortable abode ever. The walls were made of metal as was the floor making the room have a slight chill to it.
The bed's were double stacked and built into the walls. Each one having it's own window to accompany the bunk. Many people were looking out the windows to the environment outside. I couldn't see much but I could hear rushing water and see grey skies. Counting the number of people who were sharing the blue hall with I came out to seven, eight if I counted myself as well.
"Are you a daydreamer as well? Or do you like just standing in the doorway?" The tone was playful and warm, something I wasn't expecting when I took note of the different types of people in the room.
An awkward laugh escaped my lips as I stepped forward quickly and looked to the voice. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you there." I quickly apologized while rubbing the back of my neck sheepishly.
"Don't worry about it, what's you're name partner?" He asked mocking an accent of some kind, as he slung an arm around my shoulders. It wasn't the type of romantic advancement rather than a friendly and playful move, I could already tell this boy was light hearted and fun. He had light brown hair which swept over his eyes and was indefinitely in need of a trim. However the style was rather cute and light hearted, making it seem like he was wearing a baseball cap with how the hair defied gravity so easily.
His milk chocolate eyes were alight with a child like spark to them, the eyes of a man who didn't let anything hold him back from what he wanted to do. "I'm Alexandra Reed, but that's a mouthful, call me Alex." I say flashing him a grin as he ruffled my hair.
"I'm Gale, Gale Greywalker." He stated and pulled away from me, moving to a bunk which he flopped onto, luckily nobody was there staring out the windows. Merely milling about now instead, and choosing their bunks while some talked amongst each other in quiet voices. Shrugging I quickly decided to join him but on the bed diagonal to his on the opposite wall. I might as well stay close to the only friend which I have made here so far, allies were a good thing to have as well as friends. We had no clue how long we would be here or how difficult the Quests would be.
Rather than flopping onto a bed like Gale had, I just sat down and scooted backwards. "So what do you think is the real reason we're here?" He asked suddenly making me furrow my brows in confusion.
"Real reason?" I repeated, honestly I had thought that we were here to help change the world just like the woman had told us.
Gale nodded as he scratched his chin, a five o'clock shadow making his skin itchy. "Yeah, the real reason. If we were really here to 'save the world' or whatever she said, do you really think that we would have had our memories wiped? Wouldn't it have been better to choose everyone rather than a small focal point of participants so you have larger numbers?"
The idea caused me to quiet myself for a minute, he was right, there really was no honest reason for a lot of the things that had happened. I sigh, and look around at the other people in the room before looking at Gale, "I remember something when I woke up."
This caught his interest, "You remember waking up?" I nod and lick my lips, my throat suddenly parched for no apparent reason.
"I do, I remember being in this...frigid room, it was like a large freezer. It was so cold I could barely move and when I did it felt like my limbs would snap in half." I started as I look down at the neatly tucked in bed, trying to recall what had happened. "Do you remember what you woke up in? How did you stay warm?" He bombarded me with questions about the fuzzy recollection.
Feeling a little overwhelmed I slowly answer his questions. "I-I remember there being a warm fur coat, and-and, it was this kind of...cylinder tube...it was warm, but also really wet with a sticky substance. I don't know what it was exactly but the last thing that I recall before I passed out was someone saying 'A-27'." I tell him rubbing my arm as I glance back up to him.
"A-27?" I nod, "What does that mean?"
"I honestly have no clue Gale," I sigh and run a hand through my hair.
He nodded abruptly, "When we can we should explore this place, so we get a better feeling of our surroundings.
We talked for a few more hours, as did the rest of the pod. But soon the world outside the windows went dark meaning it was time for us to sleep. Crawling under the warm blankets on my bed I watch a teal barrier appear over the entrance to my bed, as if it was a kind of curtain. I smile, appreciating the small note of some privacy in this place. We didn't have much. The only thing separating the girls side from the boys was a wall, with a doorway between the two, you'd have to walk through the boys shower area to get to the girls. The bathroom's luckily had stalls for the cubicles but nothing dividing the showers and the people in them to the outside world. So the small amount of privacy we did receive was welcomed with open arms.
I lay in the bed on my side as I stare out the window holding the pillow under my head I listen to the soft sounds of the animals and insects outside. However a small flicker caused me to sit up and my breath to hitch, my hand pressed itself against the glass as I stared out the window. In the far distance a small boat was traveling north, the waterfall underneath us leading into that river. They had a small lantern with them, the silhouettes of three people could be seen. However I was unsure of how many there actually was. It was pitch black outside and even with their lantern it was difficult to spot them.
A squeak was lodged in my throat as a sudden group of people immerged from the darkness behind them, all of them head to toe in white. About five of them held a long stick in their hands and were at the front of their boat while the rest paddled quickly catching up to the three.
My eyes widen as one of the people in white moved forward and touched the end of his stick to the boat, instantly it caught flame. I couldn't watch anymore and had to hide, under the blankets my heart pounded and blood rushed in my ears. Who were those people? And why were they drowned?
