iv. hospital terrors

The group all walked into the hospital with the intention of telling off Sam and her asshole of a boyfriend. When they got in they approached the lady at the desk, who clearly didn't want to be there.

They all stood there for a moment until Deena rang the bell. The woman still didn't look up but handed her a form. "Fill these out and take a seat." She told her.

"No, I'm just visiting." Deena corrected.

"Visiting hours ends at nine." The woman said.

Kate cleared her throat, standing next to Deena who clearly was getting annoyed. "Tell Nurse Beddy she has a patient." She told the woman. Soon enough Beddy came out after the woman at the front desk called him. "Beddy. Long time, how you been?" Kate asked.

Beddy looked over at the group. "See your still toting around with this moron." She said in reference to Simon.

Simon only smiled. "She can't quit me, Beddy. I'm too pretty!" He joked, making Beddy scoff.

"Listen, we need your assistance." Kate told her, gaining Beddy's attention again.

"I'm sure that you do, but there happens to be a new security protocol." Beddy said. "We kept coming up short on blueberries and bananas. So now I need a special key-"

Deena cut off Beddy's explanation. "I need to see a patient." She told her.

Without hesitation, Beddy led Deena to where Sam was. As they left the four stood around awkwardly. "Blueberries and bananas?" Josh questioned.

"Vicodin and Percocet." Kate answered. "You want anything from the machine? I'm starving." Kate wasn't really asking, as she left to go to the vending machine.

Josh, Simon and Sydney all followed her. "I can't believe Sam's stupid boyfriend would try and scare us like that." Sydney scoffed.

She and Simon were walking ahead of Josh as they walked to the vending machine. "I can, Sunnyvale sucks." He tells her.

Sydney laughed a little. "True. But on our own turf? I didn't think they had the guts." She shrugged.

Simon nodded. "If they have enough guts to follow us on the bus, they have enough guts to scare us in our own homes." He said. "Speaking of homes, aren't your parents a bit worried about all the time you've been at Kates?" He asked her.

Sydney sighed. "Derek's home, they probably have barely even noticed I'm gone." She told him.

Simon frowned a little. "I'm sure they do, have you even called?" He pressured on.

Sydney shook her head. "I didn't even tell them I was staying with Kate." She mumbled. Sydney knew her parents couldn't care less about whether or not she was home if Derek was. As long as Sydney brought them home money nothing about her mattered.

Simon wanted to give Sydney a hug but he knew better than to touch her when they weren't really close. Sydney barely even let Kate hug her and she never let Deena, although that was never an issue.

Simon was about to say something but the group had come to a stop. "Yo, Si-Money. Cash me." Kate said, holding out her hand.

Simon shrugged. "Don't look at me, dude. I'm...I'm...I'm broke." He told her.

Kate sighed. "Syd?" She asked.

Sydney shook her head. "Don't even ask, my parents refuse to let me carry money around." She reminded her.

"You got any change?" Kate asked Josh.

Josh looked up at her and was clearly taken aback that she had even spoken to him. "Oh, um..." He began checking his pockets as the three older teens watched. He didn't have anything in any pocket. "Uh, but I..." He walked up to the vending machine and pressed a few buttons, and leaned on the machine. "What do you want?" He asked as all the snacks fell out the machine.

The group began taking the snacks they wanted that had fallen out of the machine. "Where'd you learn how to do this?" Kate asked him.

"Oh, a lot of people trade hacks online." Josh explained.

Simon coughed a little. "Nerd." He said. Sydney hit his arm as Josh looked a little hurt at what Simon said. Simon just smiled at her as they began eating.

"So, um...when'd you get into the fruit business?" Josh asked.

They all gave him a confused look. "What?" Kate questioned.

Josh chuckled awkwardly. "Um..The, uh...drugs." He reminded her of what Beddy had called the drugs earlier.

"Oh, that's just temporary. Saving up to get out of here." Kate explained to him.

"Take me with you." Josh said quickly.

The three teens gave him an odd look. Simon intimidated a bomb as they heard screaming. They all looked in the direction of the scream and saw Sam and Deena running. "Run!" Deena yelled at them.

They all watched as the two girls began running away. "Did they get back together?" Simon questioned, suddenly someone in a skull mask ran past them. He made Kate scream and caused Simon to grab her and Sydney and start running. Josh wasn't far behind.

They were all screaming as they ran, trying to get out of the hospital. The made their way to an ambulance and soon had seen the two girls struggling with the murderer. "Come on!" Simon yelled at them.

Soon both Josh and Simon started yelling at them and after they finally got the killer knocked down they got in the ambulance. They all came to an agreement to go to the police and report this skull mask freak.

They all were scared out of their minds. Simon, Kate, Sydney and Josh were all standing outside as Sam and Deena went in. "We should not be this close to the police station in a stolen ambulance." Simon told them in worry.

"That's the whole point. We're hiding in plain sight." Kate told him.

"Yeah, just like Bundy." Josh added, they all looked at him in an odd way yet again. "Ted Bundy, when he was stalking his victims, I mean." He explained to them.

"Ok, didn't he get caught though?" Kate asked him.

"But he was able to kill like a bunch of women, right?" Sydney asked them both.

"Well, no, Well, yeah, but-"

Simon cut off Josh. "Figure this out. I'm gonna take a leak." He told them and left.

They watch as he leaves and Josh sighs. "So, why do you know so much about killers?" Kate asked.

"Know thy enemy, right?" Josh said.

"I think it's cool." Sydney admitted to Josh, making him a smile a little.

Kate nodded. "You hang onto any of that candy?" she asked Josh.

"Yeah." Josh pulled out a candy bar and handed it to Kate. "Uh, do you want some?" He asked Sydney. Sydney shook her head, she had eaten a full one when they were driving.

Soon enough Deena and Sam came back to them. "We need to leave." Deena told them as soon as they reached the ambulance.

"I think we should stay. We're safe here. What if that psycho shows up again?" Sam asked.

"Then we'll be ready." Deena said as she pulled out a gun.

"What the hell?" Sam shouted.

"Deena, what is that?" Josh asked her.

"Is that the cop's? You stole a cop's gun?" Sam interrogated.

"Fuck yeah she did!" Kate smiled.

"Can I hold it?" Sydney asked as she reached for the gun, making Deena jerk it back.

"Are you out of your goddamn mind?" Sam questioned.

"They didn't believe us." Deena reminded her. "We're on our own." She said to the rest of them. "Where the hell is Simon?"
