Explanations
Zak's P.O.V.
"You just walked out of her home?" Aaron asked. It has been two and a half weeks since I last spoke to Elizabeth. I felt extremely guilty for leaving her like that without an explanation. That locket she had is one of the few things in my past I never wanted to remember. I may be wrong that it could have been another lockets out of the thousands that look just like it. However, there's a tiny voice in the back of my head telling me otherwise. Right now Aaron and I are at Billy's house doing a bit more research on the location we're going to in Michigan. I'm still having the same nightmares I had over two months ago. Each time becomes more gruesome and terrifying to the point where I can't sleep.
"You should meet up with Elizabeth and talk about what happened Zak. She might be able to understand why you reacted the way you did." Billy suggested.
"What if she doesn't want to speak to me man." I asked Billy. "I haven't called or messaged her since that day. I doubt she would answer back". I told him. "You'll never know unless you try man. Maybe she wants to talk to you. In the short amount of time you've known each other, I'd say you guys have gotten close. Like a sibling kind of bond in my opinion and you've never clicked with someone so fast." Aaron said.
"She's become a very good friend to me. I never become close to anyone so quickly but she's different. She did tell me some very personal things that triggered her emotionally and she struggled to get it out a bit. I could tell that she never really talks about what she shared with me." I said to them.
"As I said, Zak, you two have become a bit close in a sincere way. I wouldn't give that up if I were you." Aaron said. "Alright, I'll try to go over to her house and explain in person." I told Aaron. I just hope that she will understand. All of a sudden an idea came to mind. "I have an idea guys. What if I invite Eliza to come along with us on our investigation?" I asked the guys.
"I think that will be a cool thing to do man. That way you can hang out and spend a bit more time together." Billy exclaimed. "Yeah. When we would talk over the phone, Eliza told me that she is a firm believer in the paranormal. She even wanted to go explore a haunted location one day." I said. "That would be a great thing for you to do for her. Call her and see what she thinks though." Aaron said. "I'll go call her right now actually." I told Aaron. I walked off into the kitchen to call Elizabeth. My only hope is that she understands what happened and she will say yes to joining me on the investigation.

Elizabeth's P. O. V.
I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing on the table in my living room. I grab my phone to see who was calling me and I was a little upset that Zak's name was on the screen. Out of all the times in the day to call me, he decides to call me at 10:52 p.m. I rub my eyes to try and wake myself up a bit while I answered the phone.
"Hello?" I asked. "Hey, Elizabeth. It's Zak." He said. "Yeah I know. What do you want Zak? It's late and I just went to sleep." I exclaimed. "I know it is and I'm sorry I woke you up. I really need to talk to you about what happened." He said. "Why? It's pretty clear to me that for two weeks you haven't called or came over to explain why you just walked out of my house. Let alone leave me hanging and wondering what the hell I did wrong to make you so upset." I told him. "Look, Elizabeth if you are okay with it I want to talk in person about why I left that day. Please?" He stated.
To me, it sounded like Zak wasn't gonna give up on trying to talk to me. I didn't want to because I figured he wanted nothing to do with me anymore after we do talk about it. Yet there is a tiny part in me that's telling me to give him a chance to explain. Plus it might be the only time he would. So I just made up my mind and went with my gut.
"Alright Zak, we can talk. Where do you want to meet up?" I asked him. "How bout we meet at Esmeralda's Café? Is that alright with you?" He asked. "Yeah that's fine. Let me get dressed and I'll meet you there in about 20 minutes or so." I told Zak. "Okay, Elizabeth. I'll see you there." He said. "Okay bye." I said before I hung up.
I got up from the bed and went to my closet to find some clothes to change into.
Once I found some clothes I got dressed and put my hair up into a ponytail. I went to my living room to get my keys and crossbody bag then head out of my house. I got in my car and started to make my way to the cafe. All I can think about while driving to the cafe is how this meeting is gonna go. I wonder what the reason is behind Zak bailing out on me. Maybe it could have been something troublesome. Maybe it could have been something I did when I showed him the locket. I haven't taken it off since that day because it was the one thing I had left of my mother. I never wanted to lose sight of it ever again and treasure it because it was a piece of her.
I finally made it to the café and parked close to the entrance next to Zak's car. I got out and walked to the doors and entered to find where Zak was sitting.
"Elizabeth, over here!" I heard Zak say. I found Zak at a booth towards the back. I go over and sit across from him. I almost laughed at that moment because looking at Zak, I guess he didn't care as well how he looked at this hour.

"Hey, Zak." I said. "Hey, Eliza. Thank you for coming out here to see me at this hour." He said. "Your welcome. So why did you storm out on me the day we hung out? What is something that I did to upset you or-" "Eliza." Zak said stopping me mid-sentence. "It was not something you did so don't think that. It's my fault that I should have explained to you at the time. The reason why I left is because your locket looked like the same locket my girl had when she and I were together. Anne's locket belonged to her grandmother then it passed on to her daughter, Anne's mother, then she gave it to Anne before she passed away. The necklace was a family heirloom." He explained to me. "Anne would never take it off because she wanted to keep her grandmother and mother close to her. She told me that it was her most prized possession. Of course, she was wearing it the day we said goodbye to each other. I felt myself being taken over with sadness because of how much I missed her. I never thought I would see something so familiar as that again in my life." He told me. While he said that I could hear his voice wave a bit. His eyes were holding back tears that were threatening to fall at any second. He moved his glasses to wipe the tears away and put them back in place.
I reached under the collar of my shirt and took out my locket. I looked at it in sadness because I didn't think something as simple as a piece of jewelry would make someone so heartbroken. Like I had done once before, I got up to sit on his side of the booth and hug him. Once I hugged Zak he began to cry. While comforting him I began to shed a few tears myself. I still felt guilty about this whole ordeal and I don't like to see him so sad.
"Zak, I'm so sorry for causing all this trouble. If my stupid jewelry box would have never been knocked over then this would have happened." I told him. Zak let go of me and I just stared down at my hands. Zak gently grabbed my chin and lifted my face so I would look at him. "Elizabeth, do not be sad about this. It wasn't your fault or anything like that at all. For me, being an investigator for ghosts I know it was a spirit that pushed your box off of the dresser. Please don't be upset anymore, okay?" He said to me. "Okay Zak." I simply said. "Are we still friends?" He asked me. I chuckled a bit before hugging him again. "Of course we are still friends. Thank you for telling me the truth. Whenever you need to talk about anything related to your love or anything at all just come to me. I'll always be here to listen." I reassured him. "I will Elizabeth. I promise I will from now on. Thank you for understanding." He said to me while he let go of our embrace. "It's no problem at all Zak." I said.
"Actually, would you like to see what Anne looked like Eliza?" He asked me. "Yes, I do." I said. He reached into his coat pocket and took out an old Polaroid picture that was folded up. He handed over the photo to me so I could look at it. I unfolded the picture and gasp at the mystery woman he loved so much.
I didn't know how long I was staring at the picture until Zak gently shook my shoulder. "Elizabeth, are you alright? What's wrong?" He asked me. I looked at him and handed back the photo to Zak. "Oh no it's nothing, nothing at all. She uh, she's just a very beautiful woman. She looks like she has a kind and loving heart." I said to Zak. He smiled at my comment before looking at the picture one last time before putting it away. "You are right about that Eliza." He said.
Now I'm a bit lost for words. There were so many thoughts and questions going through my mind right now. Even a couple of alarm bells going off at the same time. There was one question that just never escaped me. If this woman was Zak's love from all those years ago, is it possible that he knew my mother?
"Elizabeth. I wanted to ask you a very important question." Zak said. "What is it?" I asked him. "Would you like to join me and my crew to go on an investigation in a few weeks? If you can manage some time off from work of course. You will be our special guest." When Zak said this I was astounded. "Yes, I would love to!" I said to Zak. "Awesome! I can't wait. I was a little nervous because I thought you were going to say no." Zak said to me. "No way Zak! I've been wanting to do an actual investigation with you guys since I began watching your show. Can you show me what to do for the investigation?" I asked Zak. "Of course I will. You have nothing to worry about. I think this will be something amazing for both of us." He said to me. "I think so too, Zak. I can't wait to go!" I said.
After a little while, Zak and I agreed to meet up again later. It was late at night so we both went home. When I got home to my apartment I couldn't help but jump up and down with joy. I, Elizabeth Harlowe, am going on an investigation with the Ghost Adventures crew, and my friend, Zak Bagans himself! This is going to be awesome!
A/N: Hey everyone! I just re-edit chapter 5 of my story. It was missing the minor part of Zak inviting Elizabeth to the investigation. To me, it felt like it was unfinished. I hope you enjoy my book so far. I can't wait to hear your feedback and give you guys another chapter soon. Bye!!!
