You're not ready

Jasmin called in sick the next day after getting a message from Cainan, informing her he would come to pick her up for the optical checkup, fitness test and, last, to check out some apartment.

She had had a hard time sleeping after she got home last night and it wasn't because of the need to digest the somewhat heavy dinner she had eaten at the restaurant but from the thoughts of the day. She couldn't help worrying about the medical fitness test in particular and she knew particular, her pregnancy would not remain a secret for much longer. There was no pride in hiding her pregnancy. It just happened. She always thought she would have her partner around her when pregnant, but that wasn't the case she was in.

She didn't lie to him. He didn't believe she was pregnant and ticked the 'no' box and that was completely on him and no one else.

She wasn't contemplating ending the pregnancy either; it was a new leaf for her and despite things being hard on her since she left Dennis; she didn't want it any other way. Turning a new leaf wasn't easy, though. She still stole, lied, and was dishonest, but she wanted to be a better person and hopefully turn her life around for her unborn child.

Her phone rang, snapping her out of her thoughts, and she picked it up to look at it. And the caller ID was Anita's. "Hello," she said as she walked out of the bathroom.

"I heard you called in sick and won't be coming to work today," she said, sounding a little worried.

She moved to the bed and sat down on it. "Yeah, just a little dizzy, that's all." It wasn't a lie. She felt dizzy and nauseous when she woke today, but she had felt that way since she became pregnant and the doctor told her it was the morning sickness and it was perfectly fine.

“I think you should see the doctor and have it checked out. Hope it's not something serious.”

"I hope so too and I will do that today." She said which again was true, but not in the way Anita would see it. "Thank you."

"You're welcome, dear. Call me if you need anything and take good care of yourself. I'll miss you."

“I'll do that, and I'll miss you, too.”

The call barely ended when she heard a knock on her door and she heard Anita's voice on the other end asking, "Are you expecting someone?"

No, she almost replied, but realised that would just mess things up and make Anita more worried for her than she already was.

"The flickered off yesterday and I had to call the electrician, that must be him" she lied, "talk later." She didn't wait for Anita's response before ending the call. The knock came to the door for the second time, and she held onto the towel around her and hurried to the door.

"Who's there?"

"I told you I was going to come and pick you up at seven-thirty and it's seven thirty-three, Jasmin, open up."

"You know saying 'it's me, Cainan, open up' would have saved us both the long speech you just gave?" She grumbled, but unlocked my door, anyway.

He pushed the door wider and stepped into the room.

"Well, come in," she sarcastically said before slamming the door close before glaring at the back of his head.

He raised his eyes from his phone before taking notice of her. "You're not ready."

Unlike last night, he was wearing a more formal outfit, a navy blue suit and tie with a white long sleeve on the inside. His hair was neat and well-brushed to the back and there appeared to be a few stubbles on his face and they made Jasmin tingle on the inside.

"I'm not." She upheld his words.

"Well, why not?"

It could be because she slept late last night and didn't wake the exact time should this morning and that also affected the bath time and brush time and that was five minutes ago, but she didn't owe him that explanation.

"Maybe I was waiting for you." She stepped closer toward him.

He slid the phone and his hands into his pocket. His green eyes not failing to trace the inch of her exposed body before returning to meet hers. "Well played, now put on something, Ms Whyte, we do not have all day."

She bit her lips, not wanting to listen and hoping to push his button a little more, "I know that, but wouldn't you want to know what's underneath? What you're paying a lot of money for?"

"It is not going anywhere in the next twelve months, so, go now."

She sighed deeply before tapping his shoulder and giving him a sorry eye. "See what I mean? Boring."

As she turned to leave, he grabbed her by her arm and pulled her to himself so that their body touched and their eyes locked. Her heart skipped a beat as she stared at the man whose green eyes were flickering with emotions and desires. She couldn't wrap her fingers around and it does something wicked to her. He pulled closer and her breath hitched in her throat as she wondered what exactly he was about to do to her.

She blinked twice, trying to make sure this all wasn't in her head but it wasn't; he was holding onto her like a possessive being, pressing her small body against his big ones, and she could feel the heat coming from his. She felt him there against her stomach, his pleasure rod, and though it was calm and soft, she still felt the presence through the clothing.

His hot breath fanned over her face and his other hand came up to her jawline and his finger caressed her, causing shivers to run down south and making goosebumps break all over her skin at the slight gesture.

"I am not boring, princess, I'm quite the opposite." He breathes out before letting her go and it takes all her strength not to collapse to the floor.

"Go, change and come outside. I'll be waiting in the car."

She almost cussed at him for turning the games on her, but she knew she started it and he was just so good at playing, maybe even better than she thought.

She picked out her most presentable outfit, which was a flay sundress reaching her knee and a black slip-on. She made her hair into a ponytail and she applied a little make-up on her face to meet up with the standard of the good-looking man she was going to be around the whole day and for a very long time.

"I was this close to coming in and dragging you out." He said as she stepped out, holding his thumb and index finger up but slightly apart to show how close.

"What an impatient man you are, Mr Inferno." She cooed, and he rolled his eyes. "If we are going to sell to the people, we will come across as well as the rest of the world that we are dating. I have to play my part by at least looking datable."

He did not reply to that. Instead, he asked, "Did you call your work?"

She nodded, and he opened the door for her to get in. "They wished me a safe recovery and so did Anita."

"We will go to the optical clinic to get your eyes checked out. I booked our appointment for eight but since you wasted more time than necessary, we cannot meet up and we will have to spend more time than I planned there." Although his words were scolding, his tone was anything but.

Jasmin glanced at him for a moment, "I couldn't sleep early last night which was why I woke up late this morning and it's why we are going late now" this was what she should have told him earlier but she wanted to drag it on for as long as she could and drag she did till now.

"You should have told me," he told her, his eyes still fixed on the road, but his voice becoming a little softer.

"And avoid all this drama? Hell no."

He rolled his eyes and nodded, "Fine, I'm glad you've had your fun."

It wasn't even close, but he didn't have to know that. And they remained silent as he drove them.

"So, I want to ask why we need a medical test this early into the relationship?" She asked.

"It's most times required when couples are in a relationship. The earlier the better as it helps them know each other status' and makes sure they are both clean and compatible medically. In our case, it isn't necessary until we both feel the need to."

"What if, after getting tested, the test reveals I am not clean? Will it end the contract?"

For the first time in almost ten minutes of driving, he glanced at her to see if she was joking, but she looked anything but joking.

He awkwardly cleared his throat. "Well, if that happened, I will not cancel the contract. The test is to know your status in case we ever feel the need for sex in this relationship, but it is not an ultimatum."

Jasmin didn't believe him. She had no infection or anything. After she found out she was pregnant; she underwent all the medical examination, and she came out clean. Thank God.

"Do you want to have sex with me?" She asked, and she didn't miss the way his eyes flickered around.

"I am attracted to you, but that doesn't mean I want to have sex with you unless the feeling is mutual. The sex section in the contract was number six, meaning there are other things stipulated in the contract and so our lives in the next year will not revolve around just sex. I don't know if you understand what I'm talking about."

"Yeah I do, but I'm clean." She told him before adding, "I had a medical examination done four weeks ago and I haven't been with anyone since then, but we can go for further confirmation."
